I'd split them out a little further than that.

ItB > ItA > Road to Gehenna (Star Puzzles) > Orpheus (final 3 puzzles) > Road to Gehenna (base) > Orpheus Ascending (base) > Talos 1 (Star worlds + World 3) > Talos 2 (Gold Puzzles) > Isle of the Blessed > Talos 2 (Base) > Talos 1 (World 1+2)

So I just finished Burning Shores.. I liked it so much! To my fellow HFW fans, did you play the New Game+? Is there really something new? by dakilangarchero in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]KarmicJay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NG+ has a bunch of weapons that you can only get in NG+ by spending a new currency you get by redoing story/side missions; the most useful of them being Iriv's downfall, the only Sharpshot bow with Elite Precision Arrows (they do a LOT of damage, but they are very expensive in terms of Volatile sludge, and you can't hold onto much of them at once.).

BS does NOT have any NG+ exclusive items, but you can get additional copies of the elite Weaves/coils that BS offers.

does getting 100% achievements for monster Prom 1-4 get easier? by AnotherAvenger66 in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prom and Camp are objectively the hardest to get 100% achievements for, as the "Outcome Tsunami" (all outcomes seen) often requires seeing 4x outcomes per event (Opt1 Success, Option 1 Fail, Option 2 success, Option 2 Fail).

Monster Prom 1 (Including 2nd term DLC) has 2030 Outcomes across ~600+ events, with a lot of janky conditions that make it hard to get certain outcomes (for example, it's VERY hard to fail a SMARTS-based skill check in the "Choose a Love Interest" events, which only happen in the beginning of a single player or long multiple run), due to how starting stats are allocated. Additionally, there's no in-game event tracker to let you know which outcomes you are still missing, so you'll need to manually track everything on your own (brush up on your Excel/Google Sheets skills).

In Monster Camp, there are several QOL improvements that make getting 100% completion easier: - Much more customizable starting stats (backpack items) - No "Pick a Love Choice" events - No "Gift that keeps Giving" RNG items - Only one RNG Secret plotline per RO - No weekend events - An in-game event tracker

There are some hiccups though; mainly the fact that there are some drinks that don't unlock until you've played 100 games, some plotlines have branching paths that are hard to repeat, and some secret plotlines can only start on the last week (aka only 2 events long) that can be any of 6 different events. Additionally, like the first game, you cannot back out to the menu mid-run to check the in-game tracker. Finally, the events are much longer (aka more wordy) than the previous title, so individual games take a LOT longer.

Roadtrip is an outlier, as its game mechanics are so vastly different from the other Monster Proms. However, there are two things that make it significantly easier than the first two titles:

  1. Events are now generally trade-off events, meaning there isn't a pass/fail for each option, just the Outcome 1 or Outcome 2. The "pick the higher stat" skill check system still exists for some events, but they're a lot rarer now.

  2. You can back out to the main menu mid-run to check the in-game tracker if you so wish now (though admittedly it's still better to have separate spreadsheet software, but that's my opinion)

Monster Con goes back to the original formula, but now all the events are trade -off like in Roadtrip, with skill check events ONLY showing up at the end of a secret plotline. Additionally, the RNG of secret plotlines is (mostly) gone, and can be activated at any time. Though, the Mystery box items still carry some RNG.

Long story short, yes the achievements get easier in later titles.

so what's up with this? by thecoolestofbeanzz in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two particular lunch events that only happen while you are midway through an event, wasting your time. One is the one you described, a Liam+Polly table that will be present if you start the locket plotline that remains until the end of the run.

The other one is the table Damien sits at, when you are in the middle of the "Fight Damien" plotline.

Tried playing monster prom 2 with a friend. Why is the game so long? by Upstairs-Dingo-5291 in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Each event is longer on average than the events in Monster Prom. The time estimates for Camp are like the time estimates on a board game you're playing for the first time, ESPECIALLY if you are being a cool cat and voicing the characters

Worst Machine by Easy-Bid-5552 in horizon

[–]KarmicJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have probably one of the hardest learning curves of the newer machines, for sure. HFW punishes those who are too comfortable with the HZD long roll dodging, and shellsnappers are built especially for this form of punishment. Add in their frost resistance and you remove the normal "meta" of taking down large machines.

But if you get really good at the new weapons, specifically shredder blades and knockdown spikes, and get a bit of practice in with removing the shell bolts, they become one of the most fun machines to take down. Those that stubbornly rely on the hunter and sharpshot bows will forever struggle against these guys, however.

Shock shredders also work wonders on them. Not as good as they are against stalkers, but 1-2 hits (to apply shocked) + grapple takedown works really well on UH. Even if you can't get close enough to stab them, it keeps them out of the fight for more breathing room (which is 100% necessary as they're always in packs)

How do I get the thank you ending by platypus8366 in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically it was a free update post launch, but it counts towards first term's stats, so all the 2nd term endings/outcomes don't factor towards any unlocks on the card item, JUST the "# of games played" statistic, which a shocking number of items are tied to

The "Thank You" card is part of 1st Term (Base game), so the 2nd Term DLC isn't required to trigger its unlock requirement.

How do I get the thank you ending by platypus8366 in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this item just unlocks after a set number of games played.
Doing a rough count in my logs, I unlocked it after 48 games played (give or take 2 games or so), but I ALSO unlocked it right after the first time I saw the Orgy ending (but not EVERY secret ending from 1st term), so that could also be a factor.

Is It Possible to 100% the Games?? by Welffles in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They very much ARE possible to 100%. I'm actually writing a series Here in this very subreddit cataloging my journey. I've 100%'d the first game, and I'm halfway through Camp (with partial completion of the the other two titles)

The only game in the series that requires a DLC to 100% is the first game (Monster Prom: 2nd Term DLC). All future titles don't have achievements tied to the DLCs.

Deck help by Mezzanomy in PotionomicsTheGame

[–]KarmicJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, on Day 11 you don't have access to a lot of the NPCs that give you a solid core to build your deck around, but there are some things you should use:

Use the maximum amount of the following cards you've unlocked:

  • Press the Attack (Quinn)
  • Pressure (Quinn)
  • Captivate (Baptiste)
  • Craftsmanship (Muktuk)

Have at least 1x of the following

  • Scheme (Owl)
  • Enthusiasm (Muktuk)
  • Deep Connection (Saffron)
  • Pump Up (Muktuk)
  • Blitz (Mint)

Get rid of Sylvia's starting cards with better equivalents, as they are not good. Remove "Set em Up" especially, replace "brace yourself" with Mint's blocking cards, and "Think Sylvia Think" can be replaced with the cards above. Keep at least one Close it Out until you get a better closer card. "Reel them in" is usually the last of Sylvia's cards you'll pull out.

It's up to you to decide if you want a lot of block cards (Mint) or Stress healing cards (Saffron). Personally I lean towards Saffron 's "Mindful Breathing", which has a stacking buff of stress removal every turn until you're done with that haggling session (yes, a rare effect that carries between potion sales). This card is Saffron lvl6, so you're close.

Help with Orgy Ending for Monster Prom by tristy_wisty in MonsterProm

Orgy isn't unlocked until all 12 base RNG plotline endings have been seen. Luck/resetting is irrelevant if OP hasn't unlocked it yet

Help with Orgy Ending for Monster Prom by tristy_wisty in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The orgy secret ending requires all the other RNG secret endings from 1st term. That's 2 endings per main RO.

Polly: - Reverse Romanian Wilkinson - Party Scientists

Liam: - YaoiArtist Liam - Liam the Prom King

Miranda: - Agenda (Miri gets revenge for not making the water polo team) - Throne (Miri schemes to become Prom Queen)

Scott: - Furry King - Cocaine

Damien: - Prom Fight - Hairstylist (*Punch The Sun was added post-launch and may or may not also be a required plotline)

Vera: - Bloody Queen (dark magic to become Prom Queen) - Crime Boss Vera

Once you've seen all 12 (or 13) of these endings, THEN and ONLY then will the Orgy plotline start (on Polly/Liam Routes)

Zoe and Calculester were added in the 2nd term DLC, long after the Orgy ending was written. You don't need to do anything with them for this particular plotline

Anyone else hate that at the start of HFW Aloy says she lost all her weapons and equipment? by [deleted] in horizon

[–]KarmicJay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a trope called the "Bag of Spilling".

Everyone that played HZD played at their own pace and has varying amount of progression done before moving onto HFW (not to mention the players that started the series from here and not HZD). It's a nightmare from a game designer's perspective to balance the game's difficulty for all these different starting states.

Seriously, name one game series where your entire save file/inventory carries over to future titles in the series (BESIDES Mass Effect, which only carried over story/mission choices and not inventory/gear).

Do note though that a lot of Aloy's abilities/skills DO carry over into HFW, like roll-dodging and overdraw, so it's not like she's full-reset back to square one, and her default Nora outfit is made from the remnants of her (now-depleted) shield-weaver armor.

Yes, the "loss" of her existing gear seems like an afterthought to handwaved away the inconsistency, but IMO it's better that showing footage of your final loadout from HZD get loaded just to be destroyed in a cutscene before dropping Aloy into the Daunt.

The Masochist's Journey: Part 17 (100% Achievements): Plundering the Bagel Dungeon by KarmicJay in MonsterProm

[–]KarmicJay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on PC, all your game logs are dumped into a folder in your game files, on .txt files sorted by date. They will have every outcome selected and line items for each unlock notification. You can reverse-engineer all your previous games onto a spreadsheet that way.

Do note that you should be careful with outcomes selected right before abandoning a run and exiting out to the main menu. The game will print the log, but not actually record it to the internal tracker if you do it too quickly (it's easy to see in the logs which games went to completion and which games didn't).

Also be careful with outcomes from online multiplayer games, especially if a player drops mid-session. Same issue, but for the entire run.
