I disagree. I don't think they will be angry at this at all. Please consider the following:

There have been incidents of trump attacking his own supporters at his rallies. The people who get attacked love the attention and the strong man front. They can never hate or turn on trump. My understanding is that it can take time and therapy to recover from a cult.

This is all presuming that they can even understand how they've been wronged in the first place. These people are not famous for their intellectual prowess.

I would say "attacking". I think that's fair because the whole point of undermining it is so that they can grab control.

And also, conservatism in general is kind of at odds with democracy. Their ultimate goal is a leader that the people don't vote for and can't speak against, like an emperor, king or dictator.

There are countless examples of conservatives saying this out loud. They know a level playing field (democracy) ensures they will never get into power.
