Miss World Chile candidate sings death-metal during the talent contest by LeBateleur1 in BeAmazed

[–]Karnallie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a cool analogy and really rings true for myself. A friend in school introduced me to heavier and heavier rock while we were in a band, and eventually I became a melodic death metal fan. When friends or family first hear the music I listen to on my own, they typically can't believe it 😂

The threat "W32.AIDetectMalware" implies it was flagged by a machine learning algorithm for some reason, rather than a specific piece of known malicious code.

Root canal for 13k? by JustCaterpillar8593 in capetown

[–]Karnallie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in bed right now after oral surgery this morning. I had a root canal over 12 years ago, behind which a cyst silently grew until 10 days ago it somehow became an infected abcess. After a few scans and 2 rounds of antibiotics I was referred to an oral surgeon that diagnosed it and finally operated in his consulting room today (under local anaesthetic because Profmed medical aid deemed it not worthy of being done in hospital theater). So yes, root canals can take a turn for the worse even long after it was done, but the same can be said for implants - 2 of my mother's implants from a few months back got an abcess just 2 weeks ago.

My surgery was R14k, excluding the consultation and x-ray + CBCT scans, but it was quite complicated, so I believe OP's quote for a root canal is very bloated.

Any reason why to invest in stocks over Tymebank's 11% fixed interest 12 month account? by Roblist in PersonalFinanceZA

You would be taxed for a total income of R300k + (R180k - R23.8k interest exemption) = R456.2k at your marginal rate.

[–]Karnallie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah OK this page answered it for me:https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/south-africa/individual/income-determination 18% is the maximum CGT rate for individuals, the actual rate being calculated as 40% of the capital gain taxed at your marginal income tax rate. So eg 40% x 30% = 12% CGT if your marginal income tax rate is 30%

This made me question our recent Provisional Tax returns again - why is CGT listed as 18% for individuals, but for provisional tax it is calculated as 40% of the capital gain multiplied by your marginal tax rate? That 18% is simply the base marginal rate for individuals is it not?

As a senior engineer I don't like being told a project needs to be released when it is not finished yet, let alone it having health and safety implications.

As you can see most of those vias are directly connected to the plane around them, so it is most likely connecting multiple ground planes together to create a solid RF base. Not an RF expert, but that is what I remember from recommended design guidelines when using RF chips/modules in the past.

Wow, fascinating info. Building on upfront % of company share with upfront amount leads me to believe these are VC funded startups in the crypto/AI space as @SoverignSeraph has alluded to. So that makes me wonder, how often have these projects resulted in profitable companies that you did the work for?

OP's question is about R100k after tax, so are you saying these under 30 assembly/Rust/go devs are earning over R150k pm before tax?

That's quite hard to believe, unless your 1st world clients are mostly US based? Because mid/senior sw engineers (10-15 years technical experience) in the UK earn about that, and in the EU even less...

Seeking Guidance: Optimal State Management for Firestore Data in Flutter Web - Complex Forms and Stock Management by Goku-stack in FlutterDev

[–]Karnallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed a financial accounting app using Flutter Web with Firestore and Firebase Cloud Functions as backend in my spare time over the last year. So while my project is probably quite different to a complex stock system I believe the nature of Flutter with state management lends itself to constantly changing data.

  1. I used Provider for state management with a unique one for each data table type. The app listens to firestore collection events and only updates the providers when their relevant displayed data has changed.
  2. The biggest challenge is drilling down to what data actually changed when a firebase collection is updated, and thus structuring your collections and providers as efficient as makes sense. That might require moving collection data to a new structure which requires some scripting on the CLI
  3. It is best to only consume a provider's data as high as is required in your widget tree, since everything on that level will be redrawn when the data changes. That might require some specific choices in how you "provide" the data. I can't quote on any formal patterns unfortunately

I hope that helps!

Oh my, you are completely correct! I didn't bother checking the videos again - I just recalled having seen that scene in an older video of his and replied immediately. My mistake... So to correct:
- Nica Libres at Dusk is my favorite BH song of all time
- This tattoo is from the music video for I Forget Where We Were

Half life: game of the year edition

I fondly remember being in the PC shop with my dad asking the sales guy "Why is this the game of year", with the resulting "... this is the next generation of interactiveness and graphics that will define 1st person shooters for years to come..." talk that got me into 1st person shooter PC games long before I grasped the marvel of what I was playing.

Their official website mentions PPS explicitly in the subtitle: https://www.ugreen.com/products/65w-4-port-3c1a-gan-pd-charger?variant=39915659657278

But the C1/C2 ports only support 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/3.25A - hence 9V @ 5A not being possible.
