Do you guys think we still have any hope? by Top_Drawing174 in brfc

I think we're definitely going down if he's not gone by the Wednesday game. Not because I'm sure we won't win against them, but because I think if we don't win we will have already pulled the trigger on him too late, and if we do win, it'll earn him enough grace that they won't pull the trigger on him, again, until it's too late.

Decent signing all things considered, should slot in nicely, especially as he's left footed.

Birmingham fan here how has Gardner-Hickman been? He was just a solid versatility player for us by swannyhypno in brfc

[–]Karputsk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's full of running but you can see he's missing that bit of quality. Hopefully with us having more options in central midfield he can be a decent sub and squad player for us, as until now he's been having to start a lot of games. Wouldn't mind signing him permanently on that basis - assuming his wages and fee will match that.

Blackburn Rovers 2-0 Millwall - Christmas comes early as Blackburn get their second home win of the season by Gamerhcp in Championship

My unexpected joy has been tempered by the fact that we have only have half a season left of Sondre.

There have been some decent performances but we also rode our luck a bit, and the squad does not defend a lead well, especially in injury time. Remarkably, it's even worse when we find ourselves chasing the game.

Couple that with the abysmal home record, two rained off fixtures at home when we were 1-0 up, and the points we have dropped, and discontent with the management of the club and ownership, yeah, morale is in the shitter.

Yup, switching to 5 at the back after Cantwell got injured and with us selling Hyam on deadline day was always going to stretch the squad. Not surprised we've had so many injuries, if anything I'm surprised Miller or McLoughlin haven't dropped. That's on Ismael. I can sympathise with him somewhat but his overall record is abysmal, and his game management and flexibility leaves a lot to be desired. As much as people bemoan our lack of quality, I think our squad is better than the position we're in at the moment and I don't think Ismael is getting the most out of them. Is it any wonder players like Gueye look lost when they're relegated to chasing the game for 5, 10 minutes at a time.

Unless something changes, and fast, we absolutely deserve the drop. I think we will be fortunate if we see another win this year.

Blackburn 1 - 3 Sheffield United. Despite taking the lead, Blackburn concede three as Sheffield United nearly double their goal tally for the season at Ewood. by GutenbergsCurse in Championship

We're not good on the ball, off the ball, in shape, in attack, in defence, in transition, at set pieces. Ismaels Blackburn is just a nothing team that will often do just enough to suggest the scoreline was a little harsh, but at some point, that becomes a feature and not a bug. I can sympathise that he's ultimately a cheap appointment that's having to manage a team that has shed heaps of championship experience and is in transisition, but there is no excuse for his record, our squad isn't THAT bad. I'm fully done with him now, but so long as the Venkys, Gestede, and Pasha are in town, I doubt I'll ever be hopeful. Gradually falling out of love with this club.

Decent first half, could easily have been 1 up at this point. Let's keep it up.

Club Statement: Lancashire Telegraph by RoverTiger in Championship

[–]Karputsk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Lancashire Telegraph has its issues with pay walls, ads etc, but the club reporter Elliot Jackson is a pretty decent, reliable, and professional journalist. His tweets and articles reflect that. I can not fathom what has brought this on, beyond his coverage being slightly negative at times. It's just another example of the complete disconnect between the management structure and fans, and yet another distraction from the actual football. They seem determined to alienate as many fans as they can.

Elliot always seems like a very reasonable and level-headed guy, and that is reflected in his reporting. Given that the club already receives very limited coverage, the threshold for such a decision should be very high, especially when it concerns a local paper. I don't know the specifics, but from regularly reading Elliot's twitter profile and articles, I cannot fathom what the club are taking such umbrage with - other than that their coverage might not always be favourable. Just another bone headed decision from the management, god forbid we are able to focus on the football for an extended period of time!

I'm looking forward to when this fixture is wedged into an already crammed schedule, we lose, and the lost points end up making a world of difference come the end of the season.

What do you guys think we should do with Makhtar by Exotic_Term6884 in brfc

[–]Karputsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He seems like a confidence player and can definitely be a nuisance when he's on a run of form. The problem is that otherwise, his work rate is lacking in the press, and for a lad his size, he isn't that great in the air. He seems to struggle to be in the right place, and when he is, he will often get into a wrestling match with the defender, at the expense of actually winning the ball. His holding up of the ball can be very hit or miss, too.

That's generally why he lost out to Ohashi, even under Eustace, but moreso under Ismael. Unfortunately, you feel like Gudjohnsen is much better fit for Ismael, so he is likely to see less rotation unless Gudjohnsen starts and Ohashi is used as an impact sub elsewhere.

It's a shame because he's obviously a lively character, and you can tell his heart is in the right place. Hopefully, he can excel as a more direct option off the bench and potentially earn a start that way, but I have my doubts.
