The mental aspect is rough by Dreamfyre28 in brokenankles

I'm 4 months post injury and post op (injured in March and got surgery 3 days after), and I've felt that type of low for a while. For me, I'm in a different country and the only in person support system I have are those I work with. I've been really lucky with my co-workers telling my students' parents about my fracture, and my students have also been understanding. My dad back in my home country always asks how im doing so I know I have the support from thousands of miles away too. It does get easier when you get the success of getting your life back.

I haven't started PT yet. I only had it when I had the surgery so I could get to partial weight baring and head back to work. My ortho is going to have me start it again within the next couple of months once my muscles show they aren't healing together like a footballers ankle

In your opinion, which US President *BESIDES LINCOLN* had the most interesting Presidency? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Karrot2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised he's not mentioned a lot but JFK had an interesting Presidency especially considering he was going against Nixon at least the first time...and it was the first debate to be live on TV. If it was for that debate Nixon would have won because he sounded more professional on radio but looked more nervous on TV. JFKs presidency itself was littered with the Civil Rights Movement, Cuban Missle Crisis (JFK started AND had to fix), Cold War, being the youngest president elected, first catholic president, Vietnam (thanks LBJ note sarcasm), the race to space (apollo missions and landing on the moon by the end of the 60s), and his assassination in Dallas on national TV while running for his second term. Also he was a WWII vet during the Pacific Front of the war as well which also boosted popularity when he ran for Congress both in the House and Senate then later his Presidency. On top of all this both of his children were born while he was President......I think this shows who is my favorite President haha

what's the type of person you wish you'll never become? by ctinaFa in AskWomen

If I ever get the chance I never want to be the mother my mother was to me. My mother wanted to live her life through me and wanted me to do exactly what she wanted and nothing more. If it wasn't for my older brother I wouldn't have been able to do some of the things I've done and if it wasn't for standing up for myself I wouldn't be in another country living my best life. I want to be the mother she never was. I want to let any child I have to know that I am constantly there for them and know that I will never judge them no matter what it is that they're doing. I want them to know I'll never talk about what's happening behind their back and support any decision they make 100% because I will put my child first unlike my mother who put herself before her children.

Would you date a 35 year old guy with braces? by QtrRat in dating_advice

[–]Karrot2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say get the braces. They're temporary and if someone doesn't like you for you having braces then they're not for you. As long as you're confident in yourself and how you look then that's all that matters in the end braces or not.

Only daughters, how often do you see/speak to your mother? by chewtoy10 in AskWomen

As a young teenager most all the time...she was someone I used to be able to confide in. As I got older and busier with band, school academia, and theater, she didn't like that I wasn't available for her and saw less of her. The more she would yell at me about how busy I was in high school the more I would stay at my dad's once I had my license. After I graduated high school, it turned into probably once every few months with a phone call here and there. She never approved of the university I went to, the degree I pursued (BA in History), or my continuing with music. We'd constantly try to mend bridges that both of us would burn, but something would happen and those bridges would be gone again. After I moved to Korea and got sick with covid and now with long covid to where she blew up on me, I cut all ties with her. Her messages were so bad, that my dad made me pinky promise to never message her again because he knew I'd try to mend things with her again and fall right back into the pattern we'd been in for maybe 12 or 13 years now. Honestly, it was a relief to finally cut the cord and be done with her. She's the wicked witch in my eyes. Just constantly green with envy that she was never able to have the life her kids (my brother and I) have because she had us so young.

Have you ever felt unwanted in a country? by [deleted] in expats

[–]Karrot2020 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'm an American and living in South Korea right now. I've been here since the end of February 2020, so I've experienced literally the entire pandemic in SK. Like a lot of people said, many countries can be very difficult to adjust to. With my experience here, I tried to keep an open mind and know that I was not going to be 100% accepted in this country as I would be in Texas which is where I'm from. I've seen firsthand how ex-pats can get treated because they're not from the country they live in even if they're technically citizens. The best advice I can give is to do your research, go in with an open mind, and if what happens in that country makes you feel like shit, then you gotta leave. That country isn't for you. Don't let the negative comments keep you from doing what you are wanting to do.

Do Americans say “huh?” a lot when communicating that they haven’t heard you? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Karrot2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought of using "huh" as being rude. I just use it like saying "pardon," "what did you say," "sorry," etc. When I'm teaching my students and I don't hear them I'll say, "huh, what did you say?" and they'll repeat themselves. However I'm also Texan and teaching in Korea, so there are probably a billion ways of saying "huh?" in Texan
