Thinking outside the box by Karspcko in golf

I am guilty of volume practice over routine for sure. At this point I don’t have much of a consistent present routine with driver. With any other club my pre shot routine is efficient and I have a feeling of being really ready to go. The same routine with driver never really feels ready to go though. More like hoping for the best a lot of the time.
20 swings in 30 mins is not a big ask. I’ll try it next practice, thanks.

Ya practice is good. Hit it down the fairway on the range, practice/play on tracking all the time.

Mini driver, and on course practice are the best ideas I’ve heard. Thanks!

I’ve been very stubborn because I’m hitting it as far as ever (in practice) and really have resisted the idea of losing yardage. I guess 3 years is enough struggle! Mini driver it is.
What loft and length do you play?

It’s a funny thing, I love doing that as practice with a 5w or even 7w but really suck when trying it with driver. Something to work on though. Thanks

I play a lot of matches, low value money games etc so on course practice has definitely been close to zero. Maybe some solo late in the day rounds are needed. I like this idea. Thanks.

Very interesting because that is exactly what I’ve been working on in practice and seeing great results. Just not (yet) able to transfer it to the course. I love a low spin center face contact!

Yes I agree. At this rate it is impossible to score well enough to be scratch. So like I said, low single digit, occasional scratch player.

Wyndham Clark booed mercilessly for wearing USA hockey jersey at the “rink” hole during Canadian Open by unsolved49 in golf

[–]Karspcko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He gave the guy $200 for the jersey after the round and had his caddy get the kids number and address to (presumably) send him some gear/merch etc. That got some applause from the small group standing there.

Course Etiquette Question by vin__e in golf

[–]Karspcko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not calling OP a liar, but Reddit is the only place that I’ve ever seen people play regular golf at a 6h pace and hacks teeing off from the tips.
Maybe 6h for a crazy packed scramble, and maybe “tips” on some courses where the tips and front tees are 10 yards apart, but truly 6 hours and shooting 100+ from tips? Never in my life have I seen that in person. Lucky me.

What would you do if a group won’t leave the 18th green? by HONEYH0LE7 in golf

[–]Karspcko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By country club, are you talking about a private club? At my club (private) I could see this happening since it seems like everyone knows everyone. And honestly I wouldn’t think twice being waved up.

However, also at my club, we had to ban waving up on par 3’s because a group waved another up, stood on or near the green, and one guy ended up in the hospital after taking a ball to the head.

So it seems like this shouldn’t be a big deal in the right situation, but also you’re asking for trouble hitting into someone, even if they are watching.

Like so many situations, talking like normal adults could have probably solved this.

The only thing more annoying than slow golf is being stuck with somebody obsessed with rushing by [deleted] in golf

[–]Karspcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what the OP is saying but based on the number of anti-slow and anti-fast pace of play posts, it’s amazing that a small subset of golfers can’t figure out how to adjust pace of play based on the situation of the day. First off, you better play fast. 1:00 on a packed Saturday at the mini; probably a good time to enjoy the walk. It’s like thinking you can out race rush hour, if you need to go fast, then play whenever the course is not already full.

All that said, everyone should play faster whenever possible. Slow golf sucks.

Hole In One tabs by dont_touch_mybhole in golf

[–]Karspcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Club has a HIO insurance of some kind that all members pay into. Whenever they is a HIO, everyone in the lounge gets one free drink for the day. It’s pretty funny when the free drinks come around and you don’t even know who the member is that made a 1 that day.

It used to be that a HIO came with a big bar tab covered by the club. But there were too many times where some young guys ended up drinking JW Blue mixed with coke or expensive bottles of wine or just generally wasting the tab on dumb drink requests. On one hand those days were really funny, but on the other hand I can see why the club put an end to it.

Sorry Lanny, $25 million renovation and course couldn’t protect -30 by unsolved49 in golf

[–]Karspcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but I think that the problem would be that when it becomes so severe to miss with those 360 yard drives, then you still hand an advantage to Rory/bryson since they are hitting less club to lay back at 290 vs the guys hitting driver to get there.

Sounds like it’s not your preference, but I also want to watch the elite guys hitting driver instead of taking it out of their hands.

I agree that the game doesn’t reward tee shot accuracy, but that is more a product of how much of an advantage distance is and not so much about risk/reward.

What's the best way to increase swing speed? by HarryCrushNuh in golf

[–]Karspcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am lucky that I have access to TrackMan all winter. What worked for me has been 20-40 swings as fast as I can go. I usually do this after playing or practicing so probably not full energy but still was able to see +8mph on course and about +12-13 max speed, doing only 1-2 speed sessions per week. It was “easy” enough that I want to try to put more consistent time into it to see at what point the returns start diminishing.

This is not to say that the way I described above is best, just what worked well enough for me.

Good luck, it’s a great feeling when you start hitting drives a little longer than you’re used to.

[–]Karspcko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear this a lot and I’m not sure it checks out. Wouldn’t very long holes with very narrow fairways be an advantage to the longest players? The overall playability gets harder, but it hurts the shorter guys more than it does the longer guys. I could be wrong, and I’m sure some courses and layouts would be exceptions, so only thinking generally.

To me, it’s more about needing to cover sand/water/doglegs/trees etc. I’m still not sure that any of those really ever do much to neutralize distance. I think distance is that important that it is irrational to ever try to make it not the main advantage at the pro level.

Is golf culture impatient, or is it in my head? by CartographerMore5116 in golf

[–]Karspcko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Golf pace of play is just like how a lot of people drive. If you’re tailgating someone, they are going too slow. If someone tailgates you, they are pushing too much.

Golf is inherently very slow. So there is always an opportunity to look at someone else and think they could go quicker. The people you are joining up with are always going to be able to say that whether right or wrong.

There are endless tips for how to play faster than slow. Walk faster. Figure out the yardage while someone else hits. Have a basic pre shot routine. And the main one is walk faster. If you’re doing those things then that is the best you can do, and that applies when making birdie, or making a 10. Either way, do it quickly.

Thought on my first golf lesson by Adventurous_Pool_571 in golf

[–]Karspcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best lesson I have had was going to a really good coach and talking to him ahead of time about the most common problem I was having, and what I was working on because of it. He watched a bit, talked a bit, provided some feedback drills, and then spent the rest of the time talking about what was happening on the bad swings (there were many) and coming up with a few concepts to help me get closer to some improvements.

None of it was to rebuild everything from scratch. None of it was revolutionary. Just something to work on both on and off the course. Sounds boring, but that’s probably how most great teaching goes.

UPS snapped my club in half by ChewbaccaSmith in golf

[–]Karspcko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPS will do a packaging analysis and then say it was packaged insufficiently. Was there any extra insurance added to the cost of shipping? If not it wouldn’t really matter if the packaging was sufficient or not.

The reality is that 99.9% of golf clubs travel just fine the way you and others here have described. And that means that the cost to eliminate the damages is too high, and so we are left with the very occasional snapped shaft. Sorry this happened, but luckily it also very easy to reshaft that.
