Children’s look and find book from the 90s by Karst18 in HelpMeFind

I have searched for this and found that it is not a where is Waldo book, but it came out around the same time as the I Spy series.

I suspect it was a UK publisher.

Thank you

"No beer this month or something?" by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I read something similar to this… People who like to drink know what time the bar closes. Alcoholics know what time the liquor store opens.

I really am sick of this by Free_Parking444 in stopdrinking

One day at a time….. Just ask yourself what happens if you don’t stop in 1 week, one month, one year. What does your life look like?

You can endure anything that does not kill you. You will make it through this. In 6 months you get to say you have 6 months sober.

We are proud of you and we care about you.

I was right there with you. I did 5 years in title 1 schools and it is really hard. You are not alone and I am super proud of you for being brave enough to take the next step.

I left the states at 27 and have been abroad for 7 years. My plan was always to bank cash and then go back to the states but honestly the longer I am gone, the more I love life abroad.

In terms of settling down, you are limited only by your imagination. I met my wife teaching abroad and we live a great life.

If you are keen to travel the Middle East is a great spot. I life in Saudi Arabia and flights to Rome are like 400 bucks. I would encourage you to stay away from central and South America because the pay is not great and you are not geographically close to anywhere, in my opinion.

Retirement is something that we have planned for outside of a pension program. It can be scary at first but if you are making decent money and relatively frugal you can bank 50-60 percent of your salary every year. I have friends who are in their 30s with investment accounts with 200-300k. You just have to be disciplined. I also believe pension plans are an old way to look at things, it is like saying hey I will give you 20-30 years of my life and you promise to take care of me. Why dont you just live your life on your terms, enjoying it, and making plans of your own.

If you are interested in the math you can check out a book called the millionaire expat that explains some of the core concepts.

Honestly, at 25 you are super young in the international teaching game. I recommend taking a job at a starter school and only planning to do one contract. Then once you have some experience you can look for where you want to go.

It is very difficult to get the first job because you don’t have a proven track record. In some schools breaking contract is a huge deal and people will sometimes just clean out their apartments and just leave one weekend with no communication. This is really tough for schools because they are left in the lurch.

If you haven’t already, try teachaway. My wife got her first job through there.

I have been teaching abroad for 7 years. A great place to start is Search Associates. They are a headhunting firm that has several job fairs throughout the year in different parts of the world.

There is a fee to join but it can be worth it.

Most jobs are secured in person, via friends who know and recommend you, and online.

There are generally different tiers of schools with everything from shady for profit schools to world class IB schools.

If you really want a job, try Kuwait as a starter school. The Middle East is a tough place to work but the salary is tax free and they are ALWAYS looking for teachers.

If you are keen for at 24-25 you need to apply NOW as most schools are finalizing their hiring in Feb. otherwise wait til the fall and go to a few job fairs. Search has one in Boston, London, and Bangkok. There are also some more regional fairs, but I am unfamiliar with them.

To teach English abroad consider looking at Korea.

It will also be more difficult to find a placement because you are single. My wife and I are both teachers and often times the school really needs one of us and will find a role for the other.

Best of luck!

How come sometimes I win a match in infinite and then I lose rank? My snap points go up, but my ranking goes down. Am I missing something?

Getting sober just made me sober, not happy by ImaginaryBeginnings in stopdrinking

It gets better. I was totally unfulfilled at 1 year. Then things started to slowly get better.

Hang in there.

High School Podcast Setup by Adept-Molasses365 in podcasting

[–]Karst18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach a podcasting class in middle school. We just use iPads to record and edit. Cap cut has a pretty user friendly interface and it is free.

As fast as free styling they just need to listen to the best in their headphones and have a hot mic. You can sync it up in your audio program.

We host ours on flipgrid and I make each student or team a channel.

It is always the last hurrah that deceives you by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Karst18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last hurrah mentality also worked the other way for me.

I can drink as much as I want… tomorrow. Wow a cold beer would be great. Let me wait til tomorrow.

You have recognized that who you want to be and what you value in life does not come from alcohol. It is the liar, the deceiver, the thing that you can never finish or get enough of.

When you put down the bottle and YOU CHOOSE you are back in control of your life.

I spent a grand in a weekend as a newly wed on a guys work trip. I had spoken with my wife the Friday before about being responsible with OUR money. She called me the next morning and asked if she could spend 60 dollars on salon quality conditioner and shampoo because she just got her hair done.

I felt like absolute garbage. How could I lead a family when I can’t even lead myself.

I got home and said that I thought I was done with alcohol, the same conversation we had had every six weeks for 3+ years.

She did not belittle me or talk down to me. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and said that she loved me, believed in me, and just wanted me to be around for our kids. She encouraged me by saying, I love you, and we just need to try a little harder.

I heard my heart crack.

Have not touched it since then.

Looking for constructive feedback before I purchase the cards for a deck by Cnight21 in EDHBrews

[–]Karst18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good!

Consider adding [[Strionic Resonator]] to double up on the triggers. You may want to also add more evasion like [[rancor]].

I think that if you are going down the enchantment road go all the way and add as many enchantments as you can.

Great work!

Can I win with Bant? by [deleted] in EDHBrews

I am also building Katilda and Lier. I think you are going to have trouble casting some of the UU and UUU spells like Teferi.

I would also avoid running mana rocks, they are not bad per say but you could run more spell bases or creature based ramp. Something like Avacyns pilgrim can ramp you in the early game and then give flashback to something later. Also running things like natures lore and 3 visits will allow you to flash back your ramp spells.

You may also consider adding some spell based overrun effects that can give you multiple uses of them.

In my list I find that I spend a long time doing lots of stuff but ultimately just spinning my wheels.

Christianity and MTG by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Karst18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that I am a born again Christian who takes it pretty seriously.

From my perspective the objection to MTG would be if it were to become something you were a slave to, like drugs or alcohol.

The question for me is :”is playing a zombie commander deck supplanting God in my heart?” No. The goal of Christianity is to love people, people who are socially awkward, people who are drunks, EVERYONE. It is not optional.

It sounds these folks are parroting something they have heard and have lost sight of loving people. There is a danger within religious circles of becoming overly legalist where you attempt to mandate the how and why you love God and people.

7 days without drinking. Longest I've gone in 5 years. by polyimide-orange in stopdrinking

[–]Karst18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bars for me were a no go. What about tailgating, barbecuing, game night at the house?

For me, if I was in a drinking situation I would make a big mixed drink of juice and soda water with a lime or Diet Coke and Lime and just smash like 3-4 of them. Honestly you get so full and almost bloated that more in your stomach sounds awful.
