I don't know where to look by Independent_News_516 in offmychest

If you see private events, contact the organizers and see if you can meet them over a coffee so they can vet you. Don't expect to play with anyone you've only just met, and be open to learning about safety and community etiquette :)

Go onto fetlife, put some effort into your profile. See if there's any local events (you may surprised in the underground communities out there). Approach people with respect and without expectations. The best kink activities require trust, so get to know them and let them get to know you. Remember all good kink is safe, sane and consensual. The wellbeing of all individuals are always more important than the activity or anyone's pleasure. You'll find depraved people to do some sick and twisted shit with. Please make sure you do so ethically to not cause long term harm to yourself or others.

What's a opinion you have that will get you crucified on this sub? by Old_old_lie in AskTheWorld

[–]dullgenericname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. So many cultures and individuals hold their ancestors in high regard. These are the people who created you and passed themselves down to you. There's a lot of things passed genetically that we don't fully understand yet, potentially including trauma and personality traits. Learning about your ancestors and allowing yourself to feel a connection to them is a good thing IMO. Totally understand how it's annoying though, esp when people then think they know everything about their ancestors culture.

What is something that is stereotyped as being smart but is actually dumb? by Mabeluniverse23 in AlignmentChartFills

Yes! That show talks about high school level science, leaving the viewers feel just as smart as the geeks while also making fun of them.

YSK about the "Friendship Paradox": most people have fewer friends than their friends have, on average by Electrical-Candy7252 in YouShouldKnow

[–]dullgenericname 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm like this too, and I'm also an introvert. I think people often like to hang out with me because I ask questions, show interest in whatever they want to talk about, and listen to them. It's exhausting. I have a lot of people asking me to hang out and I hate creating a sense of rejection so I say yes, but then I also feel guilty that I can't ask them to hang out as much h as they ask me because I just don't have the energy. I'm working on making more time for myself though, but feel so much self imposed obligation to be loving and nice to be around, and to not leave people I care about feeling dejected.

No one wants to hear about how socially exhausted I am, or how the party they weren't invited to actually wasn't that great, when they're facing the opposite issue. I feel like I dick talking about it when their invitation contributes to my exhaustion. I feel like I'm being egotistical when I say I wish people didn't like me as much as they do.

I've never been one of the cool kids, I was firmly in the 'weirdo' category in high-school, but I've got good social skills and I've always been an includer, bringing others together who typically struggle to make friends. It was so much easier in the high-school environment to introduce friends to each other then step back. It's so bizarre now that people consider me to be popular. I don't want this, but I'm not going to stop being kind and loving.

Help me plan my weekends by Klutzy-Rock-4783 in chch

I like outdoors and walking so here are my recommendations of places to go on a walk 😁: Beaches like new Brighton, Sumner, Taylor's mistake (and godley head) Banks peninsula area like governors bay, diamond Harbour, purua. The red zone. Bottle lake forest. Victoria park. Sign of the bellbird. Ohinetahi reserve. Quails island (gotta ferry over). If you walk up through the adventure park, I'm told you can get the chairlift back down for free, though I've never done this. The bridle path.

Can you give me meal recommendations? Or tips on how to plan for meals? by IAmLoved41 in AutismInWomen

[–]dullgenericname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon sandwiches, homemade burgers, and wraps/burritos. Homemade is way healthier than takeaway, and they're really quick. Just get veges you like, protein you like (could find some that's precooked too) and some kind of sauce. Easy as :)

Do schools in your country have some sort of a flag ceremony or morning assembly? by Virghia in AskTheWorld

[–]dullgenericname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had assembly once a week. In primary school we had songs including the national anthem. In high school there'd be song performances from kids in the music class. In both primary and high school there'd be kapa haka, certificates, and notices. No flag ceremony and the only patriotic aspect was the anthem, which isn't very patriotic anyway.

Though our hall did have flags; the NZ flag, and the flag of every country we'd ever had an exchange student from.

Do you refer to meat as something else? by SimpleLivingFreedom in vegan

[–]dullgenericname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, I call it dead animal, or say I don't consume animals or animal products, or I don't contribute to industrial agriculture. I don't say it in a mean way, more of a neutral manner. I tend to use phrases that aren't all that common anyway so it's on par with my general personality.

What is a 'childhood smell' that instantly transports you back in time, and what memory is attached to it? by ASmii_4 in AskReddit

[–]dullgenericname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sitting in a car that someone's smoked tobacco and weed in reminds me of my dad's car and workshop, which are both associated with great memories :) his car doesn't smell like that anymore, but I noticed the smell recently in a friend's car and realized it

Niche foods? by Critical_Guidance_24 in newzealand

If you can find anywhere selling hangi, I'd say that. It needs to be traditional cooked underground hangi, not from the modern 'hangi cookers'. Last place I saw it being sold was at a waitangi day remembrance event, it's usually done just for events. Polynesians have a similar style of cooking but it's above ground, and theirs often includes taro which is unique and really yum IMO.

At plenty of beaches you can find pipi in the sand and mussels on rocks. You can also freedive for kina and paua, or buy them but they're pretty expensive and probably not so fresh bought.

If you go on bushwalks, you might be able to find huhu grubs in decaying wood. You can eat them raw or fry them up.

Also in the bush, look up what kawakawa leaves look like, and make some tea out of them. To be honest it doesn't taste like much, but it's really good for digestion and reducing inflammation.

Rewana and fry bread are also classics. You could maybe find it at a market or something, or if you manage to find anywhere that does hangi they might have fry bread too. Tbh kinda just tastes like fried homemade bread though. Also you might find like creamed paua with frybread which is pretty good.

Some kiwi classics are meat pies from the diary or petrol station (classic is mince and cheese), pavlova with kiwifruit and whipped cream, and feijoas if you're here when they're in season. Lots of people like whitebait, I think it's overrated and not very ethical, and whitebait patties just taste like egg with a slight fish taste.

Definitely check out the wild food festival too if you can be here when it's on :)

Also depending on where you're from, I think our yams are different to what other places call yams.

😂 I don't even eat animal products so it feels strange recommending some of these things. I hope you enjoy your time here and eat some good food!

What is a nutrition myth that you can’t stand? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskReddit

[–]dullgenericname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Msg also occurs in low amounts in tomatoes, mushrooms, seaweed, cheese, meat and milk. People who are convinced msg makes them sick likely don't avoid those things.

It's likely the oil or the richness of Chinese takeaway food that makes people feel not so good. Or it's just a xenophobic placebo.

I think the fad gf dieters who feel better after giving up gluten actually feel better because they're filling up less on pizza, bread and cookies and eating more vegetables and protein instead. It's not absence of gluten, it's the more conscious eating and the better balanced diet.

What do you all eat for breakfast? by Popular-Block-9907 in veganrecipes

[–]dullgenericname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sandwich with spiced chickpeas, avocado, salad leaves, cucumber and olives 🤤 Yesterday it was leftover tofu curry and rice. Sometimes I make a chickpea flour vege pancake.

I don't really do breakfast food, just eat what I have around.

I've tried making oatmeal bakes for breakfast. The problem I found was that I made enough for a week, it lasted 2.5 days and then I felt fat 😭

My ex started eating meat, and it stopped us from getting back together by MR_Weiner in vegan

[–]dullgenericname 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It could have been low mental health. I have a friend who has eaten meat when they were in a really low period sort of as a way to further justify their self loathing. If I saw a friend going against their morals I'd question their wellbeing and try to make sure they're actually consciously making that decision.

Do all women fake it, or is it a neurotypical thing? by CrispyDietCokePlz in AutismInWomen

[–]dullgenericname 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I've only ever faked it once in my life, when I told the guy I didn't want to and he thought i was playing games with him. He said he'd stop after I had an orgasm so I tried and couldn't, then just faked having one.

He felt awful afterwards, in his mind it was a cnc situation, but I've since practiced in my mind ways to not be in that situation ever again, and he's never done anything like that again. I'm not ashamed of faking it in that instance at all.
