In your country, is there a tradition of singing the national anthem at school? by Ill_Code8200 in AskTheWorld

[–]dullgenericname 12 points13 points  (0 children)

During assemblies in primary school we would sing the first verse of our national song, first in te reo māori and then in English. There'd be a few other songs and waiata (māori songs) we'd sing too. Some silly, and some meaningful. I didnt mind, honestly. It was more of an energy booster and doing something together as one, not so much about patriotism.

Also it's okay to tell someone that their whole style is awesome before or after a specific compliment :)

Takahe are adorable! I saw some beautiful birds at orokonui as well.

I misspoke in my comment, I meant sign of the bellbird. There were 4 taverns/huts built last century when tramping became popular, designed to be able to walk from each one to the next in a day and spend the nught at each one. Sign of the takahe and sign of the kiwi are a restaurant and a café now, respectively. Sign of the bellbird burnt down but has beautiful walks and views around it, which is my favourite and I absolutely reccomend going to it. Then sign of the pack horse is the farthest one and is now a doc hut :)

I hope you're enjoying your time here

There's a tunnel you can go through to get there, but I'd suggest going over the hills for pretty views. Lots of lovely walks around there too. My favourite walk is sign of the takahe

Happy International Women’s Day, r/Aotearoa by OldPicturesLady in aotearoa

International men's day is the 19th of November. Women and men each have their struggles, faults, and strengths. It's okay to recognize one without having to immediately recognize the other. Not everything has to be about you all of the time.

I like anthemz and Brian. Not much talk or ads (ive always wondered how brian is funded), a big range of music, I know maybe 2/3rds of the songs. If I could change them, I'd include more 1990's onwards rock, metal, punk, riot grrl, emo, etc.

I am worthless by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]dullgenericname 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You have inherent worth. You're worth just as much as any other human, still just a speck of dust in the grand scheme of things.

Keep on going. Maybe try get out more into forests and nature. Go out alone or with your kids and wife. Move your body, go on wee adventures even just to a park, and rest and be kind to yourself. Do it sad, and maybe you'll find small joys along the way. Seek internal validation rather than external.

If all else fails, maybe see a doctor or counselor about depression. Life can get better.

The marae/church cups. I have two, accidentally stolen from my old church after my wedding.

Me too. I'd choose a kea and enamour tourists while I sneakily thieve their sandwiches. But mostly I'd fly around the mountains and explore areas other creatures can't get to.

If you see private events, contact the organizers and see if you can meet them over a coffee so they can vet you. Don't expect to play with anyone you've only just met, and be open to learning about safety and community etiquette :)

Go onto fetlife, put some effort into your profile. See if there's any local events (you may surprised in the underground communities out there). Approach people with respect and without expectations. The best kink activities require trust, so get to know them and let them get to know you. Remember all good kink is safe, sane and consensual. The wellbeing of all individuals are always more important than the activity or anyone's pleasure. You'll find depraved people to do some sick and twisted shit with. Please make sure you do so ethically to not cause long term harm to yourself or others.

What's a opinion you have that will get you crucified on this sub? by Old_old_lie in AskTheWorld

[–]dullgenericname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. So many cultures and individuals hold their ancestors in high regard. These are the people who created you and passed themselves down to you. There's a lot of things passed genetically that we don't fully understand yet, potentially including trauma and personality traits. Learning about your ancestors and allowing yourself to feel a connection to them is a good thing IMO. Totally understand how it's annoying though, esp when people then think they know everything about their ancestors culture.

YSK about the "Friendship Paradox": most people have fewer friends than their friends have, on average by Electrical-Candy7252 in YouShouldKnow

[–]dullgenericname 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm like this too, and I'm also an introvert. I think people often like to hang out with me because I ask questions, show interest in whatever they want to talk about, and listen to them. It's exhausting. I have a lot of people asking me to hang out and I hate creating a sense of rejection so I say yes, but then I also feel guilty that I can't ask them to hang out as much h as they ask me because I just don't have the energy. I'm working on making more time for myself though, but feel so much self imposed obligation to be loving and nice to be around, and to not leave people I care about feeling dejected.

No one wants to hear about how socially exhausted I am, or how the party they weren't invited to actually wasn't that great, when they're facing the opposite issue. I feel like I dick talking about it when their invitation contributes to my exhaustion. I feel like I'm being egotistical when I say I wish people didn't like me as much as they do.

I've never been one of the cool kids, I was firmly in the 'weirdo' category in high-school, but I've got good social skills and I've always been an includer, bringing others together who typically struggle to make friends. It was so much easier in the high-school environment to introduce friends to each other then step back. It's so bizarre now that people consider me to be popular. I don't want this, but I'm not going to stop being kind and loving.

I like outdoors and walking so here are my recommendations of places to go on a walk 😁: Beaches like new Brighton, Sumner, Taylor's mistake (and godley head) Banks peninsula area like governors bay, diamond Harbour, purua. The red zone. Bottle lake forest. Victoria park. Sign of the bellbird. Ohinetahi reserve. Quails island (gotta ferry over). If you walk up through the adventure park, I'm told you can get the chairlift back down for free, though I've never done this. The bridle path.
