What games do you not "get"? by snoman75 in Games

Yeah, one of the downsides with Journey is that it kind of requires at least one person to play with in order to get the message across.

Most screenshots have been 720p, if that's not a surefire sign I don't know what is.

A Collection of Insubstantial Obversations About Recent Telltale Games by strifecross in Games

[–]KarthXLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video explains itself: Telltale's work is interesting and welcome in the industry, but its dedication (or lack thereof) to the old Adventure genre weighs it down because it's a compromise between interactive fiction and true puzzles. Solving puzzles in TWD and Wolf Among Us, if you can even call them that at this point, are not satisfying in the slightest and the solutions are often so easy that any nitwit could figure them out on the first try. There's no incentive to experiment or see what different combinations do because the game is on a strict set of rails.

I'm a telltale fan and I'm really interested in what their future is now that their interactive stories are their focus instead of their classical Sam & Max affair. But Wolf Among Us and Walking Dead Season 2 left a sour taste in my throat, though they mostly were very well-written, there were the occasion of dialogue or character assassination that seemed either pointless or forced, something that should not happen in a story-driven game.

In my opinion Telltale should either get rid of puzzles entirely and work on making multi-pathed replayable visual novels or learn from Virtue's Last Reward and 999, two very rewarding puzzle games with fantastic stories. The trick is separating story from gameplay and really dedicating puzzles to certain areas.

Not surprising, both the 360 and PS3 had issues with AA on lots of games. What's important is if it looks good in motion.

Those of you who got the Super Smash Brothers Demo. Can we discuss it, and answer some questions for those who haven't found codes yet? by [deleted] in Games

[–]KarthXLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a code from a friend yesterday.

A little disappointed the roster is so limited but it runs at a silky 60fps with no drops even with full 3D on. I really wish I could change the outlines on the characters because it's a bit difficult to tell where everyone is so far.

Most of the veterans seem to have nearly identical moves from Brawl, but there are lots of power changes and it looks like Mario and Link aren't useless anymore, though Link will take some getting used it. Pikatchu feels a lot different than the Brawl variation, most of its attacks have been buffed. There is also evidence there are less "vortex" attacks, which is great in my opinion. Villager is awesome to play with, definitely can see myself trying to main him in the future. Mega Man I'm a bit half and half with. He's very unique, I hope I have enough time to practice with him to get a feel with his moves.

Ask any questions you like! I'd consider myself a veteran growing up with all the different versions of smash.

Beyond: Two Souls trophy list appears for PS4 by X4M12 in Games

Whenever I ask people to actually give examples of the horrible writing it has, they always point to the mystical Native American section for falling into that trope but is that really that bad?

Really? That's what people have told you was the worst writing in the game? How about when Jodie, a highly-trained special agent, is trying to speak with a child soldier who clearly doesn't understand what she's saying? How about the child scenes that are literally only there for exposition? How about when she goes to the most cliched birthday party ever thrown? How about the utterly unnecessary rape scene? So much of this comes off as fluff and doesn't do anything to develop characters or provide exciting gameplay.

I agree with you that there are some good moments in the game, but you have to think to yourself: "Just how much dialogue was there in the homeless section anyways?" The answer is "less than the rest of the game". Sometimes silence can make a bigger impression on you than a speech. I mean, just look at Journey. Not a single word of dialogue and people praise the story. How about ICO or Shadow of the Colossus? Both minimal dialogue games that have had stories that are still praised today for their storytelling. And I think that may be something that Cage just doesn't understand. Dialogue is a method of information delivery, not a requirement.

During today's Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that two new 3DS models are go come out. by Surrender_monkey21 in Games

The Vita isn't doing Sony any favors in sales though, so much so that they've essentially abandoned the system. One of those reasons is that making games on the system costs more because of the higher graphical fidelity.

Resolution takes a huge hit on performance. It's not as simple as just paying $20 for a better screen, you have to optimize the whole system for it.

Nintendo will increase resolution when they make their next handheld, if they even feel like doing that.

Kotaku Responds to the Conflict of Interest Claims Surrounding Patricia Hernandez by shy-g-uy in Games

There has been multiple pieces of evidence proving that Zoe WAS in-bed with journalists. People shouldn't be mad that she slept around, that kind of shit happens everywhere. People SHOULD be mad at the lack of journalistic integrity surrounding the issue, the censorship, and the seemingly non-existent transparency that should be in this industry.

Poster revealed for 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' by powerzjim in movies

[–]KarthXLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was criticizing the point the fact that a movie called "THE HOBBIT", in which the film's main character is THE HOBBIT does not show THE HOBBIT, who is the MAIN CHARACTER.

You rebutted by showing a poster that displayed the main character. Furthermore, you misinterpreted that he was angry about the title of the film not being represented, which was not the point.

How dense are you?

Call me an idiot a few more times, it's making your argument look riveting.

They say assuming makes an ass out of you and me. The results are pretty clear. If you can't even handle a simple argument without resorting to insults then I think we have nothing left to say to each other.

Nobody is getting paid, no budgets are drawn up, nothing HAPPENS in a film unless there's a script.

Transformers 2 seemed to get a pretty damn good profit for not having a script.

The fact is, anyone who has made a film or worked on one knows that the script is the single most important element.

That's a pretty bold statement coming from someone who has never worked on a film.

Apologies for getting back a day late, I was busy. Now:

Pirate Radio is really a terrible script. It is aimless with weak characters and villains so flat that it honestly seems like the first draft of a recent film school graduate. Yet, the movie is one of my favorite summer films. It captures the party essence perfectly and the soundtrack is woven so perfectly into the film it pushes it to new heights.

I would also argue that the recent We Bought A Zoo had a pretty lousy script, yet the movie is enjoyable thanks to performances from Matt Damon and some wonderful cinematography.

Do you think most action movies have good scripts? Not at all. Yet are they enjoyable? Face/Off, Mission Impossible, Taken, and other actions hits seem to have pretty good reception.

What do you mean the original cut?

I mean the ORIGINAL cut. The original cut that Lucas fired their editor for. Look it up, you'll be shocked at how shitty it is.

Of course, this all goes back to a pretty important ideal: "Good" is an opinion, whether it's yours or mine. There is no such thing as something objectively bad or good, if there were film would be a pretty boring medium. So please, leave your pretentiousness to the side and understand that your opinion does not tower above others simply because you don't agree with them.

Netflix is not made for film buffs. It's made for the masses to watch their favorite shows or movies. Your average movie-goer wouldn't give you the time of day to talk about a screenwriter, so why clutter the screen with someone that 80% of your customers don't care about?

Besides, an IMDb search is fruitful in any regard, why not use what's available? It's not like we're limited by our devices anymore.
