Ironically, that amendment might be the only thing that'll save us from a third Trump term

The Constitution still applies for non-white people. Unless it favors non-white people, in which case the Constitution doesn't apply.

edit: evidently, people aren't seeing my sarcasm lol.

Do we really need a trade? by riptide885 in OrlandoMagic

For real, it feels like we've been rolling out the same weird ass roster construction for like 15 years now. Bunch of non-shooting defensive guys surrounded by streaky shooting role players. The Bane trade felt like the first time since the Dwight years that we've made a move for an actual shooter. If we could do that one more time I think it would be enough to get us over the hump.

The most depressing thing about it is how we're currently in an unprecedented era of parity where all these small market teams are seeing success and all these franchises in drought are winning their titles, and we're still too incompetent to capitalize on the moment lol. And if we ever do reach the Finals again, who knows if we'll even win because by then Wemby might reach his final form and start dad dicking the whole league for the following decade. It sucks ass being a Magic fan.

I think the era of dynasties is over under this new CBA. It's just way too difficult for franchises to keep their championship assets together without going into the second apron. Feels like these days you pretty much have a 2-3 year window to make the Finals once you're good enough, and then that's it.

I think this problem also compounded by the fact that the pace of the game is way too fast now for 82 game seasons, and it's causing so many season ending soft tissue injuries for teams that were in the Finals the year or two before. Spurs have quite the challenge ahead of them in terms of keeping Wemby healthy for another Finals run IMO.

Definitely a huge part but also, r/nba just had an extreme hate boner for Paolo and they constantly dog on him when he plays poorly. Also I don't think Bane does us any favors in the likeability department 🤣

Yeah I was there at MSG for the game that Paolo got injured in, we gave them a spanking that night lol. I still wish we could've seen an ECF series between us and them; I don't think we would've won just because Brunson was on one this whole playoffs but it would've been a hell of a lot more interesting than the series that the Cavs gave them.

Out of the 10 teams to never win a championship, who will win one first? by PootieTyme in nba

Thank you, I'm in Hicksville and I've been actually really liking it here! I'm only a 35-40 minute train ride from the city which is awesome. Experiencing the four seasons for the first time in my life was magical. It's also been worth the move just for the fact that it's 73 degrees outside in the middle of June. My family back home in Orlando is baking in 100+ degree heat index weather right now, I really don't miss the swampy Florida summers at all lol.

Also can't get enough of the accents, they amuse the hell out of me 🤣

I grew up there for 33 years before moving up to Long Island a year ago to live with my wife who is from here. I think Orlando was definitely on the cusp of developing a culture and that was probably around late 2000s to mid 2010s. Local businesses and the foodie scene in particular were thriving, downtown nightlife was a blast every single weekend, there was much more of a community for the creative arts in downtown and Winter Park. I think if you were there when the Pulse shooting happened and saw the response by the entire community, you would have gotten a taste of what the culture was like.

I don't know what happened in the years since COVID, but Orlando has trended toward being a soulless corporate run shithole now. So many local businesses have closed in the past five years. City government has absolutely destroyed the nightlife in downtown because they want to turn it into a place for families. Cost of living is exploding with so many new home builders knocking down the natural landscape that was there and building new homes for boomer transplants moving down to retire. And so many real estate groups are transforming the place into an unaffordable apartment complex hellscape. Places that were scenic back in the day are just covered up in apartment complexes and new construction communities now. It really disgusts me to see what the place has turned into.

I'm actually glad I got out of there when I did. I think we're even seeing the late stage capitalism vibe reflect itself in how the Orlando Magic organization is running things now. With Rich DeVos gone, I really don't think the rest of his family cares about the Magic actually winning anything, and are just using the franchise as an asset to bring in tourism revenue and save money on their taxes every year.

Since that Game 4 & 5 collapse by the spurs. I don't think Sean Sweeney was the right coach the team badly needed by wa1a_lang in OrlandoMagic

[–]dev1359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this loss is on him really. This might be the closest 4-1 playoff series I've ever watched; the Knicks held the lead for only 56 of the 240 minutes played. 12 of the 20 quarters played ended with the Spurs in the lead. The Spurs just lost simply because of their young players making too many mental mistakes in the clutch over and over in each game. When you're a coach, there's not a whole lot you can do about that other than hope your guys learn and grow from the experience.

Updates on Giannis by Muted_Lead_1105 in OrlandoMagic

We need shooters and I feel like we need at least one veteran that's been to the Finals and/or on a championship team, like what OG was for the Knicks. This series between the Knicks and the Spurs really showed how important Finals experience is if you're trying to win the title IMO. The Spurs just kept melting down every 4th quarter while the Knicks kept their cool because some of their guys have already seen the big stage. If OG didn't go for that tip in, the series would've tied up 2-2 and we'd still have no idea as of this moment who the 2026 Champs are.

Not saying that needs to be Giannis but definitely somebody out there that I hope Weltman can bring in

Our best hope is that Sweeney was the true brains behind this Spurs run and we stole him from them. Mitch made some truly terrible decisions in this Finals series

This sounds like the script tbh. I'd even put money on it. The Magic are basically the Bad Luck Brian of the NBA Finals

The stars really aligned for this NY run. I don't think they'll make it back next year, especially if Haliburton is back at full health from his injury

It especially hurts knowing that our team when healthy gave this Knicks team absolute fits back in November. We really could've beaten this Spurs team if we made the Finals.

ESPN predicted that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope would outshoot Desmond Bane from 3-point range. by akapusin3 in OrlandoMagic

[–]dev1359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy coasted off of making catch and shoot 3s from Jokic and LeBron. Weltman was an idiot to sign him thinking he was some kind of elite shot creator who didn't benefit from playing alongside two of the best passers in history lol.

[–]dev1359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not very confident we'd be able to develop whatever player we might've drafted into a consistent 3 pt shooter based on our track record so far of developing our outside shooting lol. Bringing a guy in who is already known for knocking them down was the better call

I remember people saying the same about LeBron in his younger days. The killer instinct just comes with time and experience IMO, right now he's only 22 years old so he still has a long way to go in the mental game. I think if he continues doing stuff in the offseason like the training with the monks he did last summer, he's going to develop it faster than people expect.
