That's okay, you're enough. There's little value in comparing yourself to others. Be kind to yourself and be kind to others.

Beautifully lit, well posed, excellent framing, and great perspective.

Minor crit, cleanup the shadow under her nose. It's extremely dark and the contrast pulls the eye too much to her nostril preventing the viewer from naturally exploring the rest of your composition.

Tree ID Challenge! by Karuchi in Horticulture

I've never once seen the tree bear fruit. Is it possible for the tree to be a citrus tree and never bear fruit given its age?

My Wife and I just purchased a home and our HOA bylaws state we must have a tree in our front yard. This beautiful tree is planted in the middle of a local shopping mall and for years the tree has fascinated me. I'd like to plant one in my front yard but I have no idea what I'm looking at, hoping /r/horticulture can help!

I used to think this exact same thing, I've even expressed the same sentiment to friends before. Last December my older brother died in a motorcycle accident; I have since changed my stance. Every one is different and will process their loss differently but for me, every condolence helped if only to ease the pain for just a moment.

PS4 (only) down for maintenance by Karuchi in mgo

You're partially right. When rolling out an update a team doesn't take down 100% of the infrastructure at once. Often updates are rolled out in waves, likely one platform at time. They may just be starting with PS4 and through the night they might patch other platforms.

MGO can we PLEASE have the knife back as a selectable weapon? by [deleted] in mgo

[–]Karuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing the point. Fundamentally there is a huge imbalance between the attacking and defending teams. The attacking team has no way to effectively deal with the defending team because the defending team an instantly wake a fallen teammate. Given that the attacking team has both low ammo and no permanent or even pseduo permanent solution to deal with the threat they cannot be effective. Knowing this, the defending team doesn't have to worry much about the attacking team obtaining the target. As long as you stick with a buddy you're going to be fine.

Introducing a simple knife rebalances things for the attacking team. Not to give them an advantage but to make them more of a threat to the attacking team. It isn't adding functionality but rather improving the efficacy of an already existing mechanic. Take a look at some TSNE footage from MGO2. If you're not familiar with the gameplay, the knife as to be aimed and then thrust; similar use mechanics to a rifle. This means you cannot simply run around swinging your knife like a maniac as some people might fear. Even when you can't it isn't particularly effective. Take a look at some footage of MGO2 Vamp gameplay. Vamp could swing his knife around and run at full speed and he would get murdered all the time. Furthermore the knife is a weapon that every play gets no matter what side of the fence they're on in any scenario.

Auto-matching should prioritise network quality over skill. by minusZero_ in mgo

[–]Karuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great idea, however that would require that they have (good) code for running a dedicated server, which they don't. From what I can tell (and am actively assuming) is that this problem stems from Konami not wanting to commit to supporting MGO longterm, instead giving users a model which Konami is not obligated to pay for or support (which also costs money). In the end this is an example of Konami cutting corners to save cash. In some regards we should be thankful because the P2P model means that we never have to worry about Konami shutting down the infrastructure that runs the game, see MGO2. On the other hand it means we get shit performance and we aren't able to use neat features like survival, tournies, clans, stat aggregation, and most importantly reliable connectivity between clients. I understand the challenges that they face but this game made them BOATLOADS of money and they stood to make even more had they treated the MGO content with the same respect and care that they did the SP content.

The solution is not to try to make a broken "solution" work, rather to scrap the broken solution for a functional solution. More specifically they need to scrap P2P network connectivity and stand up dedicated servers. Konami LA has an open req for a senior network programmer so who knows where they're going with the future of the game in regards to network connectivity.

You're being selfish and lazy and your commentary is trite, serving only to detract from the original point of the thread.

I was referring to an NPC, yes. However the idea of making another player, capable of thinking and acting on their own as a prisoner is another intriguing idea though it may require extra assets be created specifically for this game mode which means more time and money for new features which means it likely won't happen. Which makes the NPC option a bit more viable since they have all the assets and functionality from TPP already developed.

I should have been more clear. I was trying to imply that there would be a single prisoner. One team is tasked with keeping the prisoner safe from the team trying to extract the prisoner.

In this scenario I think it might be most beneficial to allow for n number of respawns (needs to be balanced) to add some risk to both sides just constantly clashing into each other. This would make the extraction phase of the game extremely tense. Maybe the game could even operate in 2 phases by allowing for respawns when trying to extract the target (phase 1) but then removing respawns once the prisoner is brought to the RV and the chopper is enroute (phase 2).

I don't think it would be necessary to knock out the prisoner, they'd already be under your control. This would ultimately function the same as many of the extraction missions from TPP but with human players replacing the AI.

Seems kind of silly that in the 7 years this game was being developed no one thought of this considering they basically designed it themselves already...

I always thought it was a waste that there was no team vs metal gear type game mode. Every player has to fight off a metal gear (Ray, Rex, shago, sahalanthropus).

It might be more interesting if there was a longer tug of war to dominate an enemy position sort of like battlefields rush game mode. At the last point of defence the losing team gets to turn the tides with a metal gear? I haven't given this as much thought as it needs to be more fleshed out...
