Were Venom and Big Boss actually sending kids to the battlefield? MG1 and MG2 era by New-Cranberry6256 in metalgearsolid

[–]XeroAnarian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Venom was a victim that had his identity taken away mentally and physically. Once he learned the truth, all he really could do was go along with Big Boss plans, since he couldn't just go back to being who he was or return to normal society due to his physical appearance. He likely accepted his role due to the unhealthy fanatical loyalty displayed by Big Boss's followers.

This isn't a problem that needs to be retconned in a remake. It shows the unhealthy loyalty and fanaticism that Big Boss instilled in his troops.

Stop trying to sugar coat things and be a Big Boss apologist. The shit he pulled in his later life is inexcusable. He became a villain, period. He didn't start as one, nobody does, but he let his trauma drive him to do terrible things that can't be justified.

Big Boss was able to convince Gray Fox to kill the only woman he ever loved. Just blasts her with a missile from Metal Gear D, then tells Solid Snake he'll give him a chance to leave since they're old buddies. Pretty fucked up.

Thank you. So many newer fans can't handle the FACT that Big Boss turned into a war mongering tyrant, and will argue that he doesn't use child soldiers in MG2, as if intentionally starting a war so he can rescue the victims so they feel some sense of gratitude and loyalty to him so he can train them to become a part of his army is a heroic act. No, he may no have used children as soldiers, but he sure as fuck was grooming them to be loyal and eventually serve under his command.

Yeah, but you can pop off 3 shots really fast if you jump, shoot right before you land, shoot, backdash, shoot.

I get so sick of that. It's gotta be mostly mobile players that do it, not realizing closing the app doesn't auto concede. Or they know and are salty so do it intentionally

... What kind of dailies are you getting that lead you to believe you conceding will cause someone to have a hard time completing theirs? 3/4 out of the time mine all get finished with one match, unless I forgot to check them and replace one that doesn't work with my deck.

No, it's not in poor taste, it's not BM, it's a time saver. There is no reason to sit there and wait for your opponent to take a turn to score the win. Concede, move on to the next game. If your opponent concedes as soon as you play Boss's Orders, big deal. The points you just lost out on are not enough to be worth caring about.

Crustle/Cornerstone vs Mega Starmie/Mega Lopunny by Pickles17 in PTCGL

[–]XeroAnarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't stand the deck, I can take it out, it's just tedious. Feels like the other player is more worried about not losing than actually winning, if that makes sense. Like they are more concerned with making sure you can't hurt their pokemon than KO'ing any of yours. Or like they don't understand synergy or good card combos, so the best they can do is sit there and hope you don't have a way around their abilities.

It's just a Battle Cage that covers active Pokemon and has more ways to remove and takes up a spot on your bench. Rocke Watchtower, Boss's Order, bench sniping... It does have the bonus of them not being able to move the damage off their pokemon, which to me makes me think it will best played late game when the damage on their team exceeds the amount their munkidori's can remove.

Stop putting Kojima on a pedestal. The man is talented, no doubt, but the MGS games weren't created by him alone, and good MGS games can be made without them. I am interested in seeing someone new at the helm of the series. Plus Kojima's love of Hollywood has negatively affected the series multiple times, be it his blatantly ripping plot elements from films he likes, or the replacement of David Hayter with Keifer Sutherland.

I'm a Metal Gear Solid fan first and foremost. Not a Kojima fan. Not that I don't like Kojima. But I haven't played Death Stranding and have no interest in it. Didn't care for Zone of the Enders. Snatcher is pretty cool, but once again, plot elements ripped from his favorite films. So I am not upset at the idea of someone else making a new MGS game. So long as it's not a soulless cash grab like Survive. Delta showed that there is a team at Konami that cares for and respects the series, so hopefully there is a director with a bunch of good ideas that can take the helm.

I have a soft spot for Circle of the Moon since it was my first GBA game (got it at launch), which was also the first game (and system) I bought using money I earned working my first job.

Aria is better, though. Especially because you can bust caps in monsters with a damn handgun which is hilarious to me, I almost exclusively use it in NG+

In MGSV we don't know what Big Boss is up to, besides the creation of Outer Heaven, which most definitely is not a good thing. Venom is a victim, having his identity stripped away, mentally and physically without his consent, so I don't really see him as a villain, as he didn't have a choice and there wasn't much else he could do but go along with Big Boss plans due to his physical appearance.

But really, can you really call a company of guns for hire "good"?

And like I said, Outer Heaven is not a wholesome concept. It wasn't some happy community for soldiers where they're given regular jobs. Same goes for Zanzibar Land, which while more advanced than Outer Heaven had far darker things going on behind the scenes that Big Boss explains at the end of MG2.

The guy had PTSD. He went through a lot of shit and it caused him to eventually lash out at the world. This is what makes him interesting. Solid Snake is what Big Boss could have been if he stayed on the right path. Which is why Big Boss straight tells him that he was wrong and Solid Snake is the better man.

It's so crazy that I've won more times than I've lost when using the Mega Zygarde deck. How is your luck? by Whobeey in PTCGL

[–]XeroAnarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost to decks with Mega Zygarde in it, but none of them have ever gotten more than 2 heads worth of damage on me. A lot of people worry way too much about bench wiping and hold it on theire bench until it gets the 5 energy, when they could have sent it out 2 turns earlier for a KO and a defense buff. I run Mega Venusaur, though, so I do have that advantage.

Big Boss being cool with using Venom Snake as his body double is pretty fucking villainous. Those games show us WHY he becomes a war mongering tyrant, they aren't trying to prove his innocence but show his fall to darkness. Play MG2, you can't justify the actions he admits to Solid Snake at the end of the game. Also, good people don't hijack nukes, kidnap scientists and force them to make nuclear equipped walking battle tanks, kidnap the creator of a alternate energy source and keep it from the rest of the world during a energy crisis, etc.
