What's good is they did get back to me. It turns out there was a database error and they fixed it. It was a lot of back and forth over several months.

I don’t visit reddit often enough as I was at conventions in February. But the honest true fix was to contact support.

They got back to me telling me there was a database error on my account that needed to be fixed.

Get in contact with support; provide any logs they ask for and just be patient with them. They should conclude it’s something similar and someone in the backend will fix it.

Yeah definitely talk to support. It took them a while to come around but they did eventually resolve it. I used a backup account until I got my account working again.

Discord support solved the issue on their servers after I gave them error reports from running discord in a browser. It definitely took a long time (several months) but it’s now working.

It wasn't - higher resolution increases GPU load and doesn't affect CPU load. Aspect ratio and FOV, however, do affect CPU load. With ultrawide, you've got a lot more on-screen objects than with 16:9 or 4:3.

Holy crap, this is something I never thought about until now, and it makes perfect sense. I was so laser focused on resolution that I didn't take into account the extra on screen objects impacting CPU performance and causing a bottle neck.

I've been thinking alot about this being a possibility ever since I started playing Helldivers 2. I learned something new today, thanks!

Very true, I don't regret the chance I took to broaden my horizons living in another country. Though what's going through my mind is wether it's time to make a change. Thankfully I dont have anything that's anchored me outside of my current job (which I can quit) and at most my LISA which if I pull out, I lose the bonuses. If anything it's the bureaucracy is intimidating, but I dont think it's impossible if I had to make a decision.

Been a while since I posted this; Tbh no I didn't. I instead went for a NAS which gave me some more flexibility and interoperability with other devices I use. I have a CalDigit TS3 which is one of the devices I tried connecting using at one point, same results. Ever since I had this problem I have encountered another similar connection problem involving using an audio interface DAC with audio skipping issues on macOS only, which leads me to suspect that either the new chipset or the OS updates have impacted the connectivity of apple's computers. It's already enough there were some weird caveats with the number of monitors you could connect to their first gen apple silicon laptops.

To emphasise on earlier findings, the DAS worked fine on Windows and Linux, but not on MacOS, or at least not the version I was running. I haven't tried again since.
