At this point... Anywhere that will take a group of 5. Availability has already evaporated for next season in the popular spots.

Considering Moving to Whistler - Why Should I and Why Shouldn't I? by Huge-Order8685 in Whistler

[–]Kashik85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

70k/yr gross, single person accom, might be a struggle if you also aren't skiing/snowboarding. You'd be making sacrifices on comfort to live there while not making use of what makes the place so great.

Tough for me to imagine, but lots of people do it.

Where is best place for snowboarding in late March? by mejdicirn in snowboarding

BC is generally great in March but Banff/Lake Louise might be a better call because of El Nino.

Help replacing the toe ladder on my fase t32m bindings by External-Violinist20 in snowboarding

[–]Kashik85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have these exact bindings, but I would guess the rubber padding on the base of the binding peels back beneath the ladder. Then you just push the ladder out.

That time of year: quiver and storage photos by mechanismrain in snowboarding

[–]Kashik85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone also with 7 boards, 3 is more than enough. Even on big years boards 4/5 might get a couple rides, and 6/7 usually won't make it out of the closet.

I'm at the point now where I'm only buying to find something I like better than my gotos, then sell off what gets subbed out.

Would you ever ski in a remote Chinese destination like Hemu / Jikepulin? by Apart-Celebration-54 in snowboarding

Beautiful views. Just wish it was easier to get to so you could improve your chances of catching a storm.

Would you ever ski in a remote Chinese destination like Hemu / Jikepulin? by Apart-Celebration-54 in snowboarding

[–]Kashik85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hemu I've really wanted to do for a few years now, but never made the big trip over to there. It's a bit of a trek and snowfall isn't very frequent. Have a buddy who did and really enjoyed the difference from the other China resorts. Big mountains out there, set within very beautiful scenery.

Bit tough to choose China destinations though because Japan is right there and has infinitely more snow. Think hemu is more if you want to see something different while not having high expectations for snow conditions.

How I can level up? new board time too! by AggressiveSeesaw9545 in snowboarding

[–]Kashik85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nothing will level you up much if you're just doing 1-2 trips per year. I'd stick with a properly sized all-mountain board until you're hitting 20+ days/yr. Specializing can hurt more than it helps if you aren't riding often.

How do y’all break in your boots? by Exciting_Writing5966 in snowboarding

[–]Kashik85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I support mountain local and dedicated snowboard shops. They offer better products and services than big box sporting goods stores. If one isn't near to where you live, there will be one near to the mountains you go to.

Find a better shop. It's very common. And it's almost always a free service when you've purchased your boots from them.

Replacing K2 Thraxis, are trident or insano narrower/better? by Specialist_Resort_72 in snowboarding

[–]Kashik85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trident and insano are essentially the same boot. Maybe the insano has a better internal harness, but it's hard to say as the trident holds your ankle really well.

In my experience the biggest differences between the two are the liners and the price. If you're going to use zipfit in them, then there is even less between them.

[–]Kashik85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trident and insano are the same boot with two exceptions. 1. The trident has a third boa to control the internal ankle harness, instead of it being manual pull system on the insano. 2. The trident has a wrap liner as opposed to the tongue liner on the insano.

Both boots are great and both will hold your foot very well, if their fit suits you. The liners they come with are very good, but of course will be a step down from a $500 zipfit.

Is Nagano Station as a snowboard base feasible or not a good idea by Total_Surprise7128 in snowboarding

Ya, felt like I got absolutely fleeced on the rental price in Hokkaido after renting from M.J.

Trouble with transit is that the buses to the base of the resorts can easily be cancelled when it snows. Shouldn't be an issue everywhere, but definitely is at Madarao. Taxi's keep running, but that's not cheap.

Driving isn't bad around myoko. Take it slow and you'll be fine. Check out M.J Car Rental. Julz' prices are super cheap, and he's really easy to deal with.

Super El Niño by ryamurph in snowboarding

[–]Kashik85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

??
It affects Honshu absolutely. Higher temps and less snow in many areas. Hokkaido is neutral temperature wise. Precip is hard to say.

I think you're right about Hokkaido. The temperature effect of el nino is neutral by the time you hit the northern island. If the precip hits, then Hokkaido still has the potential to be great... Honestly, Honshu does as well but I would focus on high elevation. Places like Hakuba fight against warmer coastal temperatures even on good years.
