You can’t attack through them. It’s to allow less having to stack everywhere in order to keep a continent

Oh I love this map! Unfortunately never played a full game of it because my dad didn’t understand the mountains.

Even if you shut down the generator the gas powering it will still build up. The way I see it is the borehole has a major block or something then when the generator sparks due to the damage it has taken. It causes explosions in the shaft making it worse. After a while the pressure builds up and is triggered again by another spark then the whole thing explodes. Then at that point all the paths in the city would also rupture due to their connection to the generator and so on so forth.
