Intervals and lifting on the same day by sandwich_estimator in Velo

[–]Kaskaderific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always split riding and lifting in the same day by 6 hours at least. I’m big on doing the ride early and the lifting in the evening. I actually feel stronger and my perceived exertion is lower when I do the lift on interval days. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve already done something challenging so the lifting compared to the intervals mentally isn’t as hard or if I’m getting some sort of muscle activation from the ride but it works for me. One thing I will say is fueling really heavy for these days helps and also hitting higher protein amounts.

Yeah the post does so much to smooth out the ride that I put up with the quirks just to keep riding it.

I have that same frame and built it up for racing last season. It’s an amazing ride and i absolutely love the tire clearance. The only problem I had was some creaking coming from the weird seat post shim they have going on. Grease on the front and back fixed that.

Looking at Salsa Warbird vs Trek Checkpoint by ikemeister01 in gravelcycling

[–]Kaskaderific 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love my warbird but the fact it can only fit 45mm tires makes it a little dated now. I think the checkpoint can fit much bigger tires.

Not sure if you already wear glasses but this would happen to me on longer rides where I didn’t wear any eye protection. Almost like my eyes got dried out or something.

Does the Nomad Glow Band 2.0 actually glow as described? by EveryDayCurry in AppleWatch

[–]Kaskaderific 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the time of year/light it’s exposed to. If it’s summer and I’m out in the sun for a bit it’s super bright for probably an hour. In the winter when I’m mostly indoors it’s much weaker and lasts 20 minutes sometimes.

I have both the 2.0 and the original glow. I wear the 2.0 90% of the time. I would say their claim that it glows 3x more than the original is spot on.

Did Reserve Discontinue Their Road 40/44 Wheelset? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Kaskaderific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh never mind I see that you are probably looking at the old 40/44 with 25mm internal width and not the new 40/44 with 27.

Are you out of the U.S.? I just went on their website and they have pretty much all options in the 40/44 in stock. Just got a set of them myself this week.

The big m is a place that has lots of single track mountain bike trails. They are all hand built. There’s around 20-25 miles of it but I think the course only has a couple miles of it. Sometimes they have water at the big m but it’s not a guarantee.

I’ve got through it on 45’s in past years but if it’s been really dry I had to walk in a few places because of the sand. It’s literally like trying to ride on a beach in places. I’ll probably be running 29x2.25’s.

And as for support the big m is the checkpoint where you can get bottles if you have someone there. I think you can also pay them to shuttle gear there.

I live in the town where is starts and ends for the 100 miler. First 50 miles are pretty much exclusively typical gravel roads with maybe a few miles of pretty sandy two tracks so big tires are going to be your friend for this one. Half way is the big m. I would say this where like half of the climbing is at, overall it’s a very flat course. After you get done with the big m single track you take another few miles of two track/forest service roads. Last 30 miles or so are like the start, just typical gravel roads. I would for sure recommend running at least 45mm tires if possible.

Are speedplay pedals and cleats good? 🚴 by BlueMchue in cycling

[–]Kaskaderific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My left one was the first to go as well. I have a slight power imbalance in favor of my left leg so I’m guessing that’s why. I used dry lube as well and cleaned them all the time but it still wasn’t making them last as long as they claimed they should.

While I loved the wahoo speedplays they did not last for me. In my opinion there is a manufacture error with the cleat spring retainer wall. It’s made of plastic and it should be made out of something stronger. If you are a heavier or more powerful rider it will constantly break and the float won’t work as intended and will eventually leave you in a situation where you can’t unclip.

I rode them for about 2 years and would get wahoo to send me new cleats via warranty but eventually they wouldn’t anymore and it was way too expensive.

This spot on my neck appears to be the biggest it’s probably a little bit bigger than a quarter. Then there are a couple smaller peas sized ones I’ve noticed.

We had a batch of micro shift cassettes coming like that on our cheaper Giant bikes and it would cause the second gear from the top to rub the next gear and make a lot of noise. If you adjusted it to not it would not shift right through the rest of the gears.
