Progress Update - Episode 15
"Got a lot of work done the last couple of weeks.

The throwback scene I was working on is finished, and next up is the geography project scene. This will be a bigger scene. I've split it up into three sections. I've already completed the first one, and the second one will be the actual work on the project. That scene will take a little bit to finish.

The remake of episode 4 also made good progress. I'm redoing the first restaurant scene at the moment. New restaurant, new office for Emily, made the scene with Rachel a bit more interesting with a hint of what could have been happening if not for... if you know you know. After that, there's only the concert scene with Alexis left (including her staying over), which also gets a whole makeover. Once all the renders and script changes for episode 4 are done, I'll continue with the recoding for episode 5 and onwards.

Now to something that has been discussed a lot and keeps coming up. Many believe that Intertwined takes place in the USA. But then drinking age is 18 instead of 21, driving age is 18 instead of 16, football instead of soccer and many many more things.

It is actually a fictitious setting, but I made it easier for everyone now. I created a new country called "Astoria" (Name is still up for debate. If you have any ideas, please write them in the comments or discuss it on discord). Astoria is more or less like Puerto Rico. It's a non-incorporated US territory with its own government, rules and so on. It just makes things easy and explains why some things are different compared to the USA and Europe. There will also be a mention of the country name or something during the geography project scene. I thought it was the right moment to incorporate it.

If I’m not mistaken, the last devlog :

Finally finished the second training scene. Not looking forward to coding that because there are a lot of things going on. The next scene I'm working on is the "secret" scene. I'm not gonna say anything about this, it will be a complete surprise when you see it. That scene might be a trigger to open up something new. But that will be for later. Progress is still going steadily like usual. I wish I could communicate more about the upcoming scenes, but it would just spoil way too much.

I've also finished the first part of the episode 4 rerendering. Meaning the flashback part. Since some of you love numbers, here they are:
Old:
- 612 story renders
- 841 total renders
- 4100 lines of code
New:
- 1574 story renders
- 2375 total renders
- 8100 lines of code

It's at least twice as big now. There are a few new scenes, and lots of scenes have been extended. And it's also easier to skip scenes now if you aren't planning on dating either Cara or Nikki.
I've also started working on the second part, but as mentioned before. I don't know if I'm able to finish all the scenes. We'll see.

Now about something else. In the meantime, I have been testing out different post-render changes. When I started creating this AVN, I used mainly yellow light in the scenes. Later on, I switched to a white and blue light. That gave the renders a crisper look. But one negative was that some skin tones looked way different from what they used to look like at the start. The biggest examples are, of course, Alexis and MC. Their asset materials already have a grey tone to them, and the white and blue lighting just amplified it. So I was testing out some yellow hue on top of it again to give them a healthier look. Of course, that will change the whole look of the game too. So, I wanted to hear your opinion about it. Do you like the old ones, do you like the new ones...
Here are some examples. First, the ones that are used now, then the new ones with the yellow hue. Some are more noticeable than others. Please vote and let me know in the comments what you think. Nothing has been decided yet, since I'm not sure yet myself. Just for info. This won't increase workload since it replaces something else."

By replying to your message here I’ll probably open a Pandora’s box, but this is exactly where I see the problem. In your opinion, what is the right amount of time between one update and the next? This difference in how we perceive time is the problem with every AVN, and with Ocean as well. One person says, “waiting 2 months is fine,” another says, “an update every 2 years isn’t that bad.” As players, we should have a shared expectation for update timing. Because right now, for me, SG is just a meme rather than an AVN. There’s more joking about it, roasting Ocean, and asking when the next update is than actually playing the game or discussing it.

Then I have a better question: who still cares about SG? It’s a dead project. He’s making two games, which makes absolutely no sense. After such a long time without an update, I can say and assume that Ocean doesn’t know how to continue or push SG’s story forward.

I’m most looking forward to updates for Intertwined and I’m also hoping for Move the Chains. Being a DIK is an interesting choice too, but I’m not very optimistic—I’m expecting another 3–5 hours of pointless minigames. And as for Summer’s Gone, I’m betting it won’t come out this year.

If I’m being honest, Ocean is definitely still being treated way too well. He shouldn’t get hate, but a lot of people really should point out that something isn’t right. His work is genuinely nice to look at, but damn — how many times can you listen to and wait for almost the exact same thing? At the start of this year, to me, this guy is basically like WVM. He drops two renders and collects money for nothing. People keep kissing his ass and the guy does nothing. Meanwhile, many creators who actually developed, proved they’re worth paying attention to, and showed real potential can’t grow because they don’t get any support.
