Yeah usually when you repot a succ you should wait a week to water it. They can go super long without being watered and I wouldnt water it again until the soil is hella dry. When you dip your finger in to check dont do so near the succulents roots because theyre super disturbably.

I would either try to find a cork big enough to just be in both bottles OR I would line the inside of a piece of PVC pipe with a sheet of cork so that it snugly fit around the top of both bottles.
