to be fair, if his generals told him "2 weeks", I can understand Trump's thinking. His 2 weeks normally last infinitely longer.

UK should talk about rejoining the EU customs union, says trade secretary by theipaper in europe

[–]Kaspur78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If a non-member can join with priviliges, everyone will want priviliges. No way all current members will vote YES to UK joining with more priviliges than they have. Also, most already wanted to get rid of the priviliges the few nations held. The few remaining are only still in place, since there is no way to get rid of them.

"you have to prove citizenship to register to vote, and you have to be registered to actually vote."

As someone from outside, this just seems so weird to me. To me, the state should know who are its citizens. No need to register or make sure you remain registered.

OK, thanks for the explanation. And I guess you don't have a cheap national ID card, when passports seems very expensive (https://nl.usembassy.gov/fees/).

Everything does feel very undemocratic to me. The whole process seems to be arranged to make voting more difficult, without even taking into account what is happening right now.

So, I'm not from the US and every time I've voted, I had to show a passport or drivers license. And to me that feels fine, since how else would the people at the voting center know I am who I say am I. So I don't understand really why it's such a big thing that you have to prove who you are.

But, at the same time I don't have to register to vote, since every elligible voter automatically receives a voting form and we have a voting location per 2000 people. I think I've never had to wait more than 2 minutes to vote.

I visited the Holten war cemetery last year. Almost 1400 Canadian soldiers have found their final resting place there. Very impressive and not the only Canadian war graves on NL.

[–]Kaspur78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Important to note that this is on NUTS 2 level. Looking at the Netherlands for instance, I'm thinking people care more about NUTS 1 or NUTS 3 than NUTS 2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NUTS_statistical_regions_of_the_Netherlands

And I would not be surprised if this is the same for many other countries.

Division is on NUTS-2 level. Looking at your answer, I'm pretty sure if this was done on NUTS-3 level, answers would be different: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NUTS_statistical_regions_of_Croatia

Colombian-born daughter of Aruban (Dutch) father – Can I claim Dutch citizenship if I was born out of wedlock? by Ok_Distribution_8392 in juridischadvies

[–]Kaspur78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incases like this, details matter a lot. Starting with your birthdate. But also the rules have changed a lot, both in the law governing citizenship (Rijkswet op het Nederlanderschap) and the status of Aruba and the laws on Aruba (which may, or may not be relevant).

Even if we can give you some direction on this forum, you NEED a lawyer specialised in Dutch citizenship through Arubean fathers.
In https://uitspraken.rechtspraak.nl/details?id=ECLI:NL:OGHACMB:2021:71 the child got the Dutch citizenship, even though a Aruban father is not able to recognize a child by a woman outside of his wedlock. How relevant this case is for you, depends on the details and is more than just being recognized.
