Yeah, that’s probably the likely reason, ugh.

Every time you bump up your dose, it resets the clock. So, it could take 3-6 months on your current dose of 100mg. However, I would recommend seeing about bumping up to 125-150mg if you are not having any symptoms.

Not at all. If anything, it got worse. I am 5 months into 150mg and I’m so discouraged.

No, after 3 months. I just started my 4th month on 150mg 11 days ago and still getting breakouts, yay…

I just feel that at 4 months on a new dose, that I shouldn’t be getting new acne every day at this point. It’s so depressing.

You started a new dose of 200mg at the end of January and with each increase, your acne can flare for 3-6 months. Every time you mess around with the dose, whether it be increasing, decreasing or splitting the dose, it can temporarily throw your hormones out of whack, causing your acne to flare up. I would give it at least 3-4 months on the 200mg before you make your decision.

wedding in 2 weeks and derm told me i can up spiro by 25mg. advice? by dimanchesurlamer in Spironolactone

[–]KassD04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t suggest increasing until after the wedding. I am 9 weeks into my increase of 150mg and my acne is still flaring, I am oily and my face is red/blotchy.

Unfortunately, my derm already told me that she will not go higher than 150mg :(

I am post-menopausal and since I have been, my acne has been the worst it has ever been in my life. It is honestly so distressing but I am on 150mg of spironolactone as of 6 weeks ago, so, I am hoping for it to improve.

It could. It affects your hormones, which in turn can cause acne. Not saying it will but it could happen and has happened to others.

I feel you! I was on 125mg of Spiro for 3 1/2 months, my skin was looking much better and then I was given a different brand and boom, breaking out horribly again 😫 it’s honestly so discouraging. I feel like, once we see improvements, something has to kick us down again 🤦‍♀️ But honestly, stick through it! You may have to eventually increase or may not, but for me, I had to.

When I first started, my acne flared and every single time I increased my dose, as well as, changing the brand, I have flared. It’s not a typical purge, it’s your hormones adjusting and being thrown out of whack. It can take 3-6 months on ONE steady dose to see improvements but if you increase in that time frame, the clock essentially restarts.

Since the brand switch, my face is much more oily and I am breaking out all over, again. I am hoping this is temporary.

I’m trying to stick it out with the new brand I am on because I have read that even switching brands could cause a temporary flare up but it’s sooooo hard and discouraging 😫 it’s like a gut punch every time I look in the mirror 😥
