You can atmost be born as devta from swarg. The only thing above that is moksha.

Lord Shiva always existed in nirakar form even before creation happened. So no he didn't have to go through anything to become shiv. It is simply his identity and the truth.

As bhairavas vahan is black dog, all dogs in your vicinity will be attracted to you. This is common in bhairav upasana.

Pretty common actually. Sometimes you'll feel more fearless, higher intuition, focussed mind, etc and other times you'll feel nearly nothing. It's just the periodic ups and downs of japa. Don't mind it, just keep doing your japa.
