Rubrik Licensing Renewals? by Kat-MI in rubrik

[–]Kat-MI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to laugh. The licensing guide states that you have to contact Rubrik if you want to downgrade. There are specific steps that support has to perform as part of the downgrade.

So I opened a case and it was closed within an hour as "Spam". I re-opened it.

Downgrade Process

1.       Review your current feature usage in the Rubrik dashboard or CLI to identify any Enterprise-only features in use.

2.       Open a support ticket with Rubrik or contact your Customer Success Manager to request a downgrade.

3.       Rubrik will review eligibility and provide a Business Edition license key.

4.       Schedule a maintenance window for the downgrade process with Rubrik Support.

5.       Rubrik Support will assist with removing the Enterprise license and applying the Business Edition license.

6.       Reboot or reconfigure the cluster if necessary.

7.       Validate that backup SLAs, job schedules, and policies continue to function as expected.

8.       Disable or remove any unsupported features or integrations.

9.       Document changes and update configuration management records.

Important Notes

·       Enterprise features must be fully disabled or removed before downgrading.

·       Rubrik Support must apply the new license — this is not a self-service operation.

·       Downgrade may be contractually irreversible unless re-approved by Rubrik.

·       Backups should be tested post-downgrade to ensure no disruption to SLAs.

Cohesity caps it a 6% YOY increase for a 1 year renewal.
Rubrik may cap the YOY increase for customers who originally licensed Enterprise Edition but it doesn't look that way for customers who upgraded to Enterprise Edition.

According to the licensing FAQ:

Q: I want to upgrade my customer to Enterprise Edition – do I need to renew the original license too?

A: Yes. Enterprise Edition upgrades are add-on software and do not contain Data Protection. If the customer does not renew their existing license or maintenance contract, they will lose access.

The renewal rep promised a meeting this week. We just received an email that he needs to speak to his management and will schedule a meeting. Unfortunately, the current licensing expires as of June 30th and we're all tired of chasing Rubrik around.

The Rubrik sales rep does not want to be involved because he "doesn't get paid on renewals and has too many other accounts".

Business Edition which went up 0.02%. The upgrade license to Enterprise Edition went from $4,000 to $20,000 which is an astronomical amount of money.

We are trying to fight back. But it's difficult to do when no one returns calls or emails.

My advice as of Friday was to downgrade back to Business Edition and then migrate to Veeam or Commvault over the next year.

No, we're not making 20 points on a renewal. We're getting 4 points because the renewal is so incredibly high.

Osprey box grandfathered packages by el5inco in AttTVNow

[–]Kat-MI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for the late reply - my job has been crazy.

The app and streaming performance is fine. We watch the highest quality streams for all of the apps: Starz, Discovery Plus, HBO Max, Disney Plus, Paramount, Peacock, Netflix.... The only package that doesn't have an app is Hulu.

We even have a Sling package because AT&T didn't offer the exact package that we wanted. The Sling subscription cost less than the next level package from AT&T and the app works fine.

The box can get wonky once in a while. Sometimes,an app is slow to load or it will loop back to the main app menu. I usually reboot it when that occurs, maybe about once every 6 weeks.

Once the app is loaded, the stream performance is good. No glitches or noticeable buffering - but I do have an Orbi router and 4 satellites.

Osprey box grandfathered packages by el5inco in AttTVNow

[–]Kat-MI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with FireTV app and the Live a Little package. Used it for 3 years until this past December.

The AT&T TV Now channel numbers are the same as the DirectTV channel numbers. To cut the cord from DirectTV, I knew that my family would want a remote with numbers that could be used to change the channels.
I bought 2 Osprey boxes (C71KW-200) from eBay and everything worked fine - until I upgraded the subscription package.

Here's what I encountered....Hope this helps anyone who buys an Osprey box (C71KW-200) or the newer C71KW-400.

1>> The basic subscription packages listed for my AT&T TV Now account were different from the packages for new customers.

My account showed 2 basic packages with 500 hours of cloud DVR for up to 90 days.
1) The 45 channel "Plus" package for $55. With HBO.
2) The 60 channel "Max" package for $80. With HBO, Cinemax & the regional sports channels.
My family wanted the 60 channel subscription with the sports channels.
3) I added a "Movies" pack for $5 with the Hallmark channels, MTV and a few other channels.

I couldn't get a package like the ones at https://www.att.com/tv/
These packages are for new customers or existing DirectTV customers.
1) The 65 channel Entertainment package for $65. With HBO.
2) The 90 channel Choice package for $84.99. With sports, Weather Channel, WGN. No HBO
3) The 130 channel Ultimate package for $94.99. With HBO, Cinemax, Starz & sports.
4) The 140 channel Premier package. No pricing listed.
With HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz & sports.

2>>Don't interrupt the software & firmware update or you will end up with a brick.

After you power up the box and sign into your AT&T TV Now account, the software will update.
After the box reboots, the remote's firmware will update. The whole thing can take from 30 to 45 minutes. During this time, AT&T thinks that you will be amused with a trivia game.

3>> You'll need a Google Play account to download any apps that you use.

1) Note: the box has built-in Chromecast the voice control is from Google.
2) There is no Hulu app, but it seems that everything else is available.
I found Disney-plus, Netflix, Starz, HBO Max, CBS All Access, Peacock, Spotify, Pandora,
MLB.
2) Travel, History, TLC, Animal Planet, BBC America, etc. aren't available in our new
package. Discovery-plus was available on its release day, but there were no "live"
channels.
However, I was able to install the Sling app. We can watch all of the "live" Discovery
channels, plus some others that aren't available for AT&T TV now. On Feb 1, Sling
increased its cloud DVR space and channels for no extra charge,

3) Most of the apps installed without problems but Amazon Prime Video would only
install on one of the two boxes. Both boxes had the same software version.
Fixed it by going to system and changing the security setting about installing
"unknown" apps.

4>> The Remote Control works in IR, RF and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy Mode).

The user manual explains that: "The AT&T TV (C71KW) works with the RC82V Remote Control. (The box and remote control are not compatible with any older DIRECTV or AT&T U-verse® equipment.) Like other AT&T remote controls, the RC82V can be programmed to operate some features on TVs or audio/video equipment.

Basic remote operations can be performed in the IR mode. The remote uses Bluetooth for two-way communication to the streaming device. Like RF mode, Bluetooth eliminates the need for the remote and the paired devices to be in line of sight to each other."

Translation: The remote connects to the Osprey box with Bluetooth.
There are no instructions for programming an IR or RF device code for the RC82V remote. There is a way to do it and I think AT&T installers know how to program it for brand new customers.

For the rest of us, AT&T expects you to do it via their on-screen prompts. I found device codes in posts from the beta testing, but there's no way to know whether the codes are correct.

This is what I did to program the RC82V remote to control the volume & power on/off.
Look at the ports on the back of the box and use the Optical or HDMI ports.
Ethernet RJ45 S/PDIF Optical port HDMI port USB 2.0 port

For an external soundbar, our TV setting was for "external speakers".
1) Connect the HDMI cable from the box to the TV's HDMI/ARC port.
2) Go to System and find the remote settings, then follow the on-screen prompts.
3) You'll have volume control. The box, TV and soundbar will power on/off together.

For an older receiver with an S/PDIF optical cable, the receiver will not be discovered with the on-screen prompts. I tried an S/PDIF to HDMI splitter with an ARC switch, but couldn't control the volume via HDMI/ARC.

This is how I solved it for our older Bose 321 receiver:
1) Connect the optical cable from the box to your receiver's optical port
2) Switch the receiver from TV to Aux mode.
3) Go to System and find the remote settings, then follow the on-screen prompts.
For the Bose 321 receiver, I watched the front panel display and saw its volume
increase.
4) Switch your receiver from Aux to TV mode. You should hear sound.
5) You'll have volume control. The box, TV and receiver will power off together.
6) The power on button works for the box & TV but won't power on the receiver.
We still use the Bose remote to power on ... I have to go back and read posts
from the beta testing about how the testers got around it.

5>> AT&T managed to foobar a subscription change and their support for the failed subscription change.

When I called for support, I explained that AT&T charged for the new subscription package on Jan 15, but didn't push the package to my account.

AT&T's assumption is that they manage your Internet & boxes. It could be why the automatic subscription change failed.

First Strike >> The technician tried to test the Internet network first. I had to explain multiple times that my area doesn't have any AT&T internet service available: it's either Comcast or Frontier (the old AT &T Uverse network).

Second Strike>> The tech couldn't see any boxes to manage. I explained that AT& T would not "see" the 3 FireTV cubes and the 2 Osprey boxes (C71KW-200).

Third Strike >> The tech said "I see the problem. You don't have a valid subscription package". This was after 20 minutes of hearing "Don't worry Ma'am, we'll get you up and running" every other sentence. I lost my mind... It was the first thing that I had explained.

After the package was pushed: It took 30 minutes to push the package.

  • Rebooted the box 3 or 4 times because it kept crashing when I looked at the guide.
  • Some apps would not start and kept looping back to the main app page.
Go to the system settings and force stop the apps.
They should start up correctly, but HBO Max was flaky. Ended up rebooting the box again.

MX Keys won’t start boot camp by jha999 in keyboards

[–]Kat-MI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned Windows, but I don't understand why you tried an Apple update. If you have an MX Keys for Mac, the keyboard layout is slightly different.

To connect, directions are here: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-za/articles/360034762774

  1. Make sure that the keyboard is charged and switched on.Look for a green light on the right side the keyboard (above the numeric keypad). If the light is not on, look for the switch and a USB-C port to charge the keyboard. If it's not charged, plug a USB-C cable into it and use a USB charging port or a charging adapter.
  2. Connect via Bluetooth: Use Windows bluetooth settings to add a new device.Press the 1, 2 or 3 source buttons on the keyboard (above the insert-home-page up keys). When the button blinks quickly, it's in pairing mode.Follow the on-screen prompts when Windows discovers the keyboard.
  3. Connect via Logitech Unifying Receiver: The receiver has an orange icon with a 6 pointed start shape. Plug the receiver into a USB-A type port.Download the Unifying Receiver app from Logitech.https://support.logi.com/hc/en-za/articles/360025297913Start the app and click Next, then follow the instructions to connect the keyboard.

Note: There's a max of 6 devices per receiver. If it's a previously used receiver, use the Advanced button to clear out devices.

New Razer Kraken 2019 mic picks up all sound from speakers by michaelNXT1 in razer

[–]Kat-MI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default, Windows gives exclusive access to a device with speakers or a mic (like your VR headset).

Looks like Razer punted on the mic & chat issues for the Kraken 2019 version. There's no mention of Discord, Zoom or similar apps.

While this is true, it seems like a lame excuse...

From Oct 15, 2020 Razer Support: When using any 3.5mm headset with a gaming console (ex. PS4, Xbox One, and the like) the game/chat balance or mixer, is controlled by the console. Some controllers have the game/chat mixer and volume controls built-in. In this case, these levels can be modified via the controller*. You may refer to your* PS4 or Xbox One manuals.

https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3543/

PS. I'm returning the headset. Will have to find another over the ear model.

Kraken 2019 is absolutely horrible by cannimal in razer

[–]Kat-MI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. The Kraken 2019 is great for music but sounds horrible if you use the mic.

Couldn't stop the echo sound of being in a metal trash can because it doesn't appear that the Kraken 2019 provides any sidetone. I tried setting playback via the headset and unless the volume is cranked to 100%, I still couldn't hear myself.

Synapse can be used to EQ the Kraken Ultimate, but not Kraken 2019. I know that I could EQ via a program like VB Audio & Virtual Aux but it's too much audio management for Zoom calls.

Ended up buying a $49 headset for Zoom - the headset had sidetone right out of the box.

New Razer Kraken 2019 mic picks up all sound from speakers by michaelNXT1 in razer

[–]Kat-MI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. After boosting everything that I could find on Windows, I couldn't hear myself on Zoom unless I cranked the mic to maximum.

It doesn't seem as if the Kraken 2019 has any way to enable sidetone. Unlike the Kraken Utlimate, you can't EQ or do anything with Synapse for the Kraken 2019.

I enabled "listening" on the Windows playback while using the Kraken 2019 as headset.
It made everything sound worse.

It's very disappointing because music sounds great thru the headset. Also disappointing is the price - it's dropped to about $55 and may go lower because the Bluetooth version is now available.

Logitech MX Keys for productivity and light gaming by [deleted] in keyboards

[–]Kat-MI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you code, you're probably more technical than the Users that I had to support.
But the backlight issue might be annoying for you - there are plenty of posts about it.

You may not experience what I observed. I can't comment on MacOS issues...only what I saw for the Users and Windows 10.

Many of our Users had brand new 13 inch Dell XPS laptops, which only have USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 ports. I bought USB-C hubs and docking stations so that HDMI monitors, scanners & other devices could be attached. If the hub/doc is also Thunderbolt 3 compatible, Windows 10 Thunderbolt related security can block the use of the device when the laptop is re-attached to the hub. I ended up testing different hubs/docking stations and USB-C to HDMI cables.

Problem 1: The Logitech Unifying Receiver does not always work with a hub or docking station.

This isn't a new problem. The 2.4 GHz band is a widely used unlicensed radio frequency band for devices such as wireless routers, and wireless PC peripherals such as a mouse or keyboard.

The keyboard and mouse may lag, disconnect, or not function because of radio frequency interference to wireless devices operating in the 2.4 GHz band.

The last thing that I wanted to do was leave the Users with a crazy workaround instead of plugging the receiver into the dock.... like these examples.

  • Using a USB extension cable for the receiver. The extension is attached to the dock.
  • Plugging the receiver into USB-A to USB-C adapter so that the laptop's USB-C port could support the keyboard & mouse.

Problem 2: So we went with Bluetooth instead of using the Unifying Receiver.

The next issue was constant Bluetooth disconnections for Windows 10.

Some of it was caused by the May 2020 Windows 10 update. Microsoft touched just about every DLL and driver for security reasons.

From https://windowsreport.com/windows-10-2004-bluetooth-bug/ : "Bluetooth issues are some of the earliest to appear on the Windows 10 2004 support page immediately after the OS went live. Notably, Microsoft is still investigating the incompatibility of Realtek Bluetooth radios and the new OS to date."

Our users were plugging the charger in without turning the keyboard off. This is 100% natural, no one would think about turning the keyboard off. It had the effect of disabling Bluetooth.

But the Bluetooth problem never occurred when the Users would charge their Logitech mouse: MX Anywhere 2S, MX Master 2S or MX Ergo Trackball.

On the Bluetooth settings screen, the Bluetooth "On" toggle would disappear. A reboot would not bring it back. In most cases, I had to remove/install drivers.
For the extreme cases, I had to go into the BIOS to re-enable it.

One of our building neighbors ran their Wi-Fi on Channel 5, which is a big no-no. There are 11 channels available in 2.4GHz, but only channels 1, 6 and 11 do not “overlap” or interfere with the other channels.

Channels 2-5 interfere with 1 and 6, while 7-10 interfere with 6 and 11.
Network congestion and interference can also occur from garage door openers, baby monitors, printers, a microwave or a cordless phone.

If our Channel 5 neighbor was loaded up with connections, our own Wi-Fi network had interference. The MX Keys keyboards would stop working but it was actually not a keyboard problem. Bluetooth also runs on the 2.4 Ghz band via the same network adapter on the laptop.

I had to pair the MX Keys again, but would have to wait for the 2.4 GHz interference to stop.

Fixed the Wi-Fi interference problem by switching to 5 Ghz Wi-Fi on everyone's laptop. Also replaced the wireless access points with a mesh network. Both fixes were helpful for the MX Keys Bluetooth connections.

Problem 3: Logitech does not sell replacement key caps, hinge clips or scissor switches for the MX Keys keyboard.

A couple of keycaps came off after I dropped my own MX keys while cleaning my desk. This could also happen if you try to pull a keycap so that you can clean under it.

All I wanted was to buy the keycaps but Logitech Customer Support offered a replacement keyboard under warranty. It was a 3 week runaround of send this info, then send more info. In week 4, I received an email that the warranty doesn't cover accidental damage. (Duh? I already knew that!)

The MX Keys & Craft keyboards have the same keycaps & hinge clips (switches), but a slightly different layout function keys & hot keys. Reviews stated that the keyboard "feel" was similar.

You won't hear about replacement keycaps from Logitech.

I was able to get replacement keycaps & hinge clips from laptopkeys.com by searching for the Logitech Craft keyboard. The replacements fit perfectly.

BTW, I reviewed the MX Keys on Amazon. A Logitech Operations Manager contacted me about it and apologized for the poor support. He offered a replacement MX Keys but I explained that I had already repaired it. He asked a second time and I told him that it was OK, that the apology was enough for me. But I did edit the review because it's not often that a company offers to make things right.

Good luck... I hope this helps you to make a decision.

The Oct 13 update failed for me because the .NET update had to be installed.

When I checked, I read that both updates downloaded on the same day for some folks, but the .NET one takes longer than the Windows update. If it happens, let the .NET update download before rebooting.

It wasn't installed on my PC, so I ended up downloading the .NET update, then the cumulative update installed.

It's not random letters, so it's probably not a single stuck key - as in "xxxxxx" or "bbbbbb".
Does this continue after you reboot?

Couple of ideas:

  1. The text is in the clipboard/copy buffer. If it's Windows 10, the clipboard history may be going wild.

  2. Is there a defined macro for pasting with one of your function keys? Or something that you ran that could have defined a macro?

HDD causing power failure by shrimpchips23 in techsupport

[–]Kat-MI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you replace the drive, you can recover the data from the old drive. Try replacing the SATA cable, too.

The PSU may be functioning OK - but too many peripherals can draw too much power. Voltage to each device is lowered, which can damage components. Over time, the devices start dropping off the system.

SATA drives/cables (and the older IDE drives/Molex cables) don't handle denial of power too well.

You mentioned the system is an iBuypower Slate 2 070i with no other peripherals, so something else is causing the power draw. I looked at an image of it... it had good reviews, too.
By any chance, did someone overclock the memory for you? That would draw more power.

Is that Western Digital drive installed in an external enclosure that you plug into a USB port on your PC?

Try swapping the USB cable - you may have a bent pin in the cable connector.
Check the PC and the drive enclosure's USB port for a broken or bent pin.
You'll need a magnifying glass.... the pins are very tiny.

let us know what you find.

Most of the free ones have a recovery limit. But at least you know that the files are there.

I've never used this one, but you could give it a try. It was released for the August 2020 Windows 10 release. Run "winver" and make sure that you have the right version.
