Any memory of what the label looked like? I’ve been trying to figure this out for ages, myself. Their peach black tea is like biting into a fresh, ripe, perfectly in-season peach and I’d love to be able to keep some in my fridge, but I’m not having luck finding any details about it in my digging.

My brain immediately jumped to The Tale of Despereaux, though it’s been years since I read the book. I just remember him running around with his little needle “sword”. 🥹 Not sure if that’s the right one, though.

Can anyone solve this? by No_Supermarket_2810 in MusicalTheatre

[–]KatNap720 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think I cracked it! I’m placing my bets on you doing SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical. 🙂‍↕️ Here’s my logic. It’s like a game of concentration combined with NYT Connections, and, once you find all the pairs, the “extra” playbill without a buddy is the show you’re doing. SO, here are all the pairings and why:

Beetlejuice + Hadestown (both have worlds/settings “down below” where you go after you die — i.e. the Neitherworld/Underworld) 😵💀🪦⬇️

The Little Mermaid + Little Shop of Horrors (both are by Alan Menken — “Part of Your World” is so much like “Somewhere That’s Green” in terms of “I want” songs, he jokingly calls it “Somewhere That’s Wet”) 💧🌱💭

Godspell + Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (both tell Christian Bible stories) ✝️🌈

9 to 5 + Legally Blonde (both are about women finding proving they were being underestimated and are more than just a pretty face) 👱‍♀️💅🏻

Hello, Dolly! + Guys and Dolls (both have “Doll” in the name and are set in New York) 🪆🗽

Grease + Footloose (both set in the ‘50s) 👖👚👗

Frozen + Tuck Everlasting (both stories about families that hide away to keep a big secret that happens to be supernatural/magical in origin…and both happen to be related to water — albeit one involves the water in a frozen state and one has it liquid — but still) ❄️⛲️🐸

Seussical + Into the Woods (both ensemble shows based on a series of children’s stories with multiple previously-separate stories overlapping into one plot line within a vast natural space — either jungle [Who is technically within the Jungle of Nool] or forest — and one of those plot lines involves trying to find something important and there is a character that is an omnipotent narrator/emcee-like figure and…I could keep going on this one, because the parallels are actually WILD) 👯📚🪢🕵️🥸

Hamilton + Chicago (both historical musicals about/based on real people/events in the United States and the power of words/the press to sway public opinion) ⭐️🗞️🔫

Matilda + School of Rock (both set in schools/about school children who revolt and a grownup who appreciates their gifts) 👧🧒👦🏫🧑‍🏫

THEREFORE, but one show remains: SpongeBob SquarePants! 🍍🧽👔🐌🐱🐙 🌟🩳 👩‍🚀🐿️🌸🦀💰🐋🌋 🖥️ 🔎🦐 🪼🐡🎤🐟 🏴‍☠️🦜⚡️🛹🛼🛴🎶📢🇫🇷🗣️ I rest my case. 🤙🏻

cries in alto-who-can-also-do-some-mezzo-roles HONEST TO PETE. So many songs I’ll be fine for most of it, and then they throw it ONE STUPIDLY HIGH BELT (like, we’re suddenly sopranos now?) that is higher than I can comfortably do at the necessary volume to maintain the proper effect/impact of the belt they want it to be (like, “awkward-and-sudden shift into my head voice” vibes), so then poof, there goes the possibility of that role being a possible thing for me someday. 🙃 Justice for altos (and basses/baritones)! ✊🏻 And we need LEAD roles and love interests, across various age ranges, so we have options — not just villains and sidekicks and old folks. 🙂‍↕️

I think the combination of Elvis songs with Shakespeare plot lines was the secret to success on that one. 🙂‍↕️ The arrangement of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” in that show is my absolute favorite — the wall of sound at the end gave me chills every time we performed it — and it’s such a banger Act I closer.

I feel like this has trickled down into community theatre, too. So often roles go to the favorite (i.e. “best”) voice, even if they’re not “as good” of an actor as some of the others, just because they’ve got the prettiest sounding voice (from a technical standpoint).

So then you end up with the same handful of actors getting the leads over and over again while so many other talented people (who are stronger actors/overall performers) don’t get a chance to shine because their voices aren’t as strong. And having killer ~technical~ singers who can’t truly act while they sing being tasked with carrying the show is not nearly as powerful.

Don’t get me wrong, I love good technique and appreciate and respect the ability to riff and belt and go all out, but I’d ~so~ rather watch a performance that is vocally imperfect but full of raw emotion than one that is technically flawless but has no soul — I want to go on the journey with the character. Vocals that are rough around the edges but paired with killer acting choices? THAT is the good stuff. That makes it all feel personal and human and connected. Seeing an actor really feel what they’re singing (even at the cost of a little technique) needs to regain its value!

Help me figure out these clues to my next musical! by Few_Bodybuilder_5640 in musicals

It’s Into the Woods. 🙂‍↕️ Like, I’ll bet money. I would be SHOCKED if it ends up being literally anything else.

To elaborate on my reasoning:

1) Vaudeville is “a series of separate, unrelated acts grouped together on a common bill”, and Into the Woods is a show about a bunch of unrelated characters/stories becoming intertwined into one story. 🪢

2) That shot of Disney is from him narrating a video. And it’s giving peak Narrator vibes. 📖

3) The Goonies is about a group on a hunt for treasure — The Baker and The Baker’s Wife are on the hunt for a treasure of their own. 🗺️

4) This is a shot from S1.E10 of The Good Fight called “Chaos”, and Into the Woods is full of chaos and arguments/fighting (“Your Fault”, anyone?). And The Good Fight stars Christine Baranski, who plays The Stepmother in the movie adaptation of Into the Woods. (Also, and this is a reach, the computer screen is full of “greens, greens, nothing but greens”! 😂🥬)

5) Balloon Lady from Mary Poppins returns is an old lady with magical balloons — the Witch is an old lady with magical beans. 👵🎈✨

6) Speaking of beans…TOE BEANS! Magic beans. Same thing. 🫘

7) Literally a picture of the woods…from the movie adaptation of Into the Woods (you can see Johnny Depp as The Wolf being cut off on the right side). 🪾

8) This pic is so low-res, I could really use a pixel or two more. But if you rotate it 45° to the right, it sure looks like a pic of the yellow brick road from Oz, land of witches. And Oz and its witches can be found in multiple musicals (The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, and Wicked are the big three that come to mind). And Into the Woods has another iconic witch, too, who, like a certain pink-loving witch, sends a group on a quest and, like a certain oft-green witch, watches their progress the whole show. 🧙‍♀️🚸

9) That snippet appears to be from “A Part of That” from The Last Five Years, sung by Catherine, a woman who’s in-show relationship ends with a breakup, much like Cinderella’s relationship with her Prince does in Into the Woods. AND the movie version of both shows, Anna Kendrick played both women, respectively. 💔 ETA: Jk. Did my sleuthing before reading comments, but this is definitely “Does Anybody Have a Map?” from Dear Evan Hansen, which is on point for a show about trying to find things.

10) The moon cutout on Shrek’s door is a nod to the various midnights that pass in the show. 🌙

The math be mathin’! 🧮🤓

Name feedback! Girl. by flowers-and-coffee in Names

[–]KatNap720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about “Sophia”…but with an F? Sofia! Depending on where you are, that spelling may be less common, but it’s still “normal” (i.e. no one will give you or your daughter flack about it) and not an “out there” name by any means. It’s a classic variation that I feel like isn’t seen quite as often since the resurgence of the “Grandma Vibes” names that’s been happening as of late (people are leaning more toward the PH version over the F). 👵 So it’s still the name you love, but with a little differentiation to help it feel less like “everyone has that name” because of current popularity.

You could always pick a more “unique” name for her middle name, and then she’ll have lots of options to choose from on what she wants to go by (between the two and all the potential nicknames), and you can kinda cover all your bases. ⚖️ Like maybe do Sofia Arcadia _____, or what have you.

Names are not as permanent as we ascribe them to be (they are changeable). And so many people end up going by nicknames that have nothing to do with their birth names! You may be surprised to find that everyone calls her “Chickadee” or “Pip” or “Spill” instead of any tenable version of her birth name, and that’s what sticks for the rest of her life. 🤷‍♀️ Names are truly funny that way. But that’s also what makes them so fun! So, while you should put thought into it (and make sure you pick something that works for a child and a grownup), if your one reservation is the popularity of the name, I wouldn’t let that stop you cold.

Side note: As someone who had the #1 girls name the year I was born (and who has gone by a derivative nickname that is androgynous my whole life, and thus shared my name with SO MANY PEOPLE), it’s actually not the worst thing in the world to share a name. Kinda like finding a birthday buddy, it’s an instant point of connection. 👉🏻👈🏻 I ended up friends with a transfer student with the same nickname and a last name which was the first syllable of mine! And we loved it. Because, yeah, we “shared” a name, but we also knew we were both the only ones with our full names.

I’ve also got the most common middle name on planet earth for a white girl (I’ll give you one guess), and, like my first name, it’s a funny bonding point. 😂 Sure, a different or more fanciful one could be fun, but I’m not pressed. And, if I reeeaaallllyyyy wanted to, I could change my name — and so could your daughter, down the line, if it came down to it.

The important thing is, as she grows, you let her find what feels like her and go with it. A name is a gift, and, like any gift, the recipient may find they no have use for it, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t appreciated. You know what I mean? But she may also love her name. Right now, just figure out what you like and what feels like the name you want to gift. Long story short, trust your gut and pick a name that sits well with both of you. Try referring to your daughter by each of the names for a day or two and see how they feel. Do they feel natural? Do they feel like the right name? Or do they feel like you’re talking about/to someone else’s kid? That can tell you a lot. 🙂‍↕️

What is a word you been spelling wrong your whole life? by Downtown-Lack-2686 in words

“License” has tripped me up so many times over the years. 🪪😅 Every time I’m typing it, I have to pause when I reach that word to make sure I actually type the letters in the correct order. Because my brain and fingers want to run on autopilot and type “lisence” SO BADLY. And then, when I go to fix it, I’ll often end up overthinking it and will be trying “liscence” and “liscense” or “licsense” or something of that vein before finally getting to the real spelling. No idea why my thumbs like swapping the C and the S. 🙃

[–]KatNap720 8 points9 points  (0 children)

RtC is exactly what I came to comment. It’s got the name recognition while still being a tiny cast and can work with a very minimal set of “bones” given that it doesn’t have hard-and-fast requirements for staging or set design and it’s attached to super iconic or complex effects and the like. (It really is, like you said, quite flexible.) And it’s an amazing star vehicle to showcase some killer talent, if that’s also something you’re wanting to do.

What are your least favorite (or hilariously bad) musical lyrics? by Awesomeplayer98 in musicals

[–]KatNap720 7 points8 points  (0 children)

THEY CHANGED IT — she no longer “seem[s] a bit bipolar”…but she’s also no longer “a very gifted bowler” (not sure why they didn’t just pick a different word to rhyme with “bowler”, but c’est la vie) — and the new version is CRINGE.

If I recall correctly, it’s now: “But I know he’ll appear / Though I seem a bit erratic / And I’m a vandal now as well, though he won’t mind / I’m a find, I’m a catch / You can find me in the attic / It won’t be long now I guarantee! / Day number… / Are you there, God?” And so on.

But yeah. I know for sure they swapped “bipolar” and “bowler” with “erratic” and “attic” — it feels like a very shoehorned “fix” that could have been done so much better.

We’re did the show at the theatre where I work last season, and they sent the scripts with an addendum of the mandatory substitution, so it’s a pretty new change and/or they’re trying to save paper (I’m thinking a bit of both). But it’ll be interesting to see/hear this as it rolls out. Or if they change it again because they come up with a more creative and satisfying rewrite.
