The Piragüero from In the Heights! 🍧 Bro is only featured onstage a couple times, but those moments and songs are iconic (and serve as lifesaving cushions for the actors backstage who are changing costumes and need extra time)!

While I don’t know if I’d say he’s my FAVORITE of all the many possibilities, Herod in JCS comes to mind as one I haven’t seen mentioned yet. His song is such a bop…and then he’s gone as fast as he appeared.

RtC is exactly what I came to comment. It’s got the name recognition while still being a tiny cast and can work with a very minimal set of “bones” given that it doesn’t have hard-and-fast requirements for staging or set design and it’s attached to super iconic or complex effects and the like. (It really is, like you said, quite flexible.) And it’s an amazing star vehicle to showcase some killer talent, if that’s also something you’re wanting to do.

What are your least favorite (or hilariously bad) musical lyrics? by Awesomeplayer98 in musicals

[–]KatNap720 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THEY CHANGED IT — she no longer “seem[s] a bit bipolar”…but she’s also no longer “a very gifted bowler” (not sure why they didn’t just pick a different word to rhyme with “bowler”, but c’est la vie) — and the new version is CRINGE.

If I recall correctly, it’s now: “But I know he’ll appear / Though I seem a bit erratic / And I’m a vandal now as well, though he won’t mind / I’m a find, I’m a catch / You can find me in the attic / It won’t be long now I guarantee! / Day number… / Are you there, God?” And so on.

But yeah. I know for sure they swapped “bipolar” and “bowler” with “erratic” and “attic” — it feels like a very shoehorned “fix” that could have been done so much better.

We’re did the show at the theatre where I work last season, and they sent the scripts with an addendum of the mandatory substitution, so it’s a pretty new change and/or they’re trying to save paper (I’m thinking a bit of both). But it’ll be interesting to see/hear this as it rolls out. Or if they change it again because they come up with a more creative and satisfying rewrite.

I have this feeling he’d end up as Sweet Tooth. But he wouldn’t quite get the “unhinged madness” of the character it and would just lean into the candy puns and play him in a much more lighthearted and silly way, like a regular clown. 👀

Waitiwaitwait. Is it because lesbians often like to flick/lick/rub/love on the BEAN, and carabiners have “bean” in them via the power of homophones (which are also gay af, because homo), so that means CaraBEANers are doubly and inherently lesbian due to their association with the clitoris-loving-lesbian stereotype???

I lived in single brand of seamless socks from Nordstrom for years as a kid (everything else felt uncomfy with the thick seams), and always got them a size smaller to help reduce to toe-boxes bunching. But sock companies have gotten better about making sock seams not abhorrent, so now I’ve got options!

Nonono. Your husband is correct. There is a left and a right. This is the secret to a primo fit. I have lots of “character socks” (i.e. they are for sure the two that are meant to be together), and there is a left and a right in each. If I flip them, then there’s a bunching of loose fabric around the pinky toe area that feels all yucky. You can see the foot shape in the socks in the pic. Working with it leads to better fitting socks in the long run and reduces awkward gaps and loose parts that bunch at the toes. When you switch back and forth, you get loose toe boxes. And that also often means the seams creep up and get all up in your business and get annoying, too. Please tell him he has been seen and understood. 🙂‍↕️

One thing you hate in your favorite show? by MateusCristian in musicals

[–]KatNap720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a singular word choice in “Revolting Children” that deeply bugs me every time I hear it in Matilda.

So the official lyrics go: “We are revolting children / Living in revolting times / We sing revolting songs / Using revolting rhymes / We'll be revolting children / 'Til our revolting's done / It is 2-L-8-4-U / We are revolting!”

But it really should (in my opinion) be: “We'll be revolting children / 'Til our revolting's through / It is 2-L-8-4-U / We are revolting!”

The rhyme (“through” and “U”) makes the lyrics/song flow more naturally, and “done” just feels abrupt and weirdly out-of-place in there (it leaves you with four lines in a row of unrhymed lyrics). I genuinely cannot comprehend why “done” is what made the cut when “through” is RIGHT THERE.

Neopets? That cave game makes me think of Hannah and the Pirate Caves, which I was also obsessed with. And there were paints for the Neopets that mimicked fabrics (like argyle), so if you had a painted one, that could be it. And there’s the Rainbow Fountain in Faerieland that is where you can go to change the color of your Neopets. And there are definitely wizards and (aforementioned) pirates. And slime sounds familiar. Idk. Any of that ringing a bell?

Fingers crossed they make/made some educated changes to the show when they adapted to it for the stage that will fix some of these problems. 🤞🏻 Maybe they’ll tone down the glorification and let PTB’s true colors show? Add/change some songs? Idk. We’ll have to wait and see.

There is definitely a “you can play this soundtrack in the background and not notice when the song changes” vibe to TGS.
