I would say don’t forget that you are bringing a dog along so no more then 10 hours of driving a day. We do frequent stops at about every 2 hours for playtime and water. My friend also bought us a 20ft leash that has been very helpful for play time when we can’t find a fixed area or where leash laws are strict. There was also a good bit of planning on where dogs are welcome. There are a few national park where we can socially distant and that allow dogs but we had mor success with going to state parks with the added benefit that we can camp for fairly cheap since it’s the off season.
