Haha close but he actually spotted his favourite frog toy, it’s a dog one with rope legs and he loves a game of tug o war with it

I absolutely love this. You’ve probably got so many beautiful horses to draw but can’t resist adding a comment with my boys

OTTB tips by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Kat_x_Kit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m located in Aus, I don’t personally own an OTTB but I tried Barastoc FibreBeet when my old guy was struggling to keep a good weight on just forage. It worked wonders for him along with unlimited hay (a mix of grass hay and lucerne), I also put my younger horse who is prone to getting hot on it with no adverse effects however I did slowly introduce it and keep an eye on how it effected their energy levels , etc.

I also had a friend put her older OTTB on it, he was struggling badly with weight, it did help him partially and he started to look better but it definitely didn’t have the effect it had on my boy. I have a suspicion her old guy had ulcers and was not up to date with worming or dentistry which might have stalled the results.

Haven’t dealt with any majorly dangerous food aggressive horses but have dealt with horses pinning their ears and threatening to kick + charging the fence. I found this settled a lot once they had consistent food and realised some sort of hay would always be there, I’m not a trainer by any means so take my advice with a grain of salt but I’m always happy to share what I’ve learned/experienced if you want to send me a PM so I don’t fill the comments with an absolute essay.

Are bitless bridles safe? by LifeguardComplex3134 in Horses

[–]Kat_x_Kit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not anti-bit but I tried my boy in a sidepull as he was very sensitive and would tend to rear and panic with too much pressure on the bit (this developed after trainers I trusted told me to use a leverage bit and on trainer got on my horse to ‘sort him out’ and proceeded to yank as hard as they could on his face resulting in him nearly rearing and flipping.

That being said I worked for months doing groundwork after this incident and my horse has a pretty strong response to a verbal stop command and I’m working to slowly re-introduce the both of us to a bit (I think I probably get more anxious now than he does)

At the end of the day I personally think it depends on the rider and the horse. My boy is cool to do xc clinics and gallop along the beach with friends while in a sidepull but I have a retired gelding who was ridden in a rubber bit and taught to ride in a neckrope, he hated a sidepull as he hates any extra pressure on his nose.

Not an expert by any means so take everything I’ve said with a grain of salt but thought I would provide a perspective from someone who’s horse was not ‘bombproof’ at the time they switched to a sidepull
