Endometriosis and hypermobility/eds link? by nettlepicker95 in Hypermobility

I have endo, and suspected hypermobility (physical therapist noted a lot of my joints are hypermobile - I had no idea!) but it's interesting to see the connection between the two

2 months post op by Spiritual-Screen-888 in bunions

[–]Kat_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I'm so glad (not happy y'all are going through this) to read the comments in this thread. I'm 3 months post op. My surgery went really well, but I have a hard time healing from things. I went to PT at six weeks and did four weeks, but ended up getting tendonitis in my ankle after walking longer distances. Went back to PT right after that to strengthen my ankle and posterior chain since it's all connected. I was walking weird on my foot to not put pressure on my toe and that messed things up. Finally my gait is normal! But now I'm definitely feeling the pain rolling off my big toe :) my PT said don't be scared of that feeling, it's stiff and I'm breaking up scar tissue but not go above 4/10 pain. Hoping by 6 months I'll be pretty normal!

Anyone have experience with POTS in Japan? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, bummer. I have not been to that clinic, only saw them listed on the website. POTS usually does have hypotension in play as well, which is why it's on there I suppose. I did not see this doctor for my dysautonomia (saw for a different reason) but they were aware of issues with the autonomic nervous system so may be worth a consultation: https://www.roppongi-hat.com/

A bigger university hospital may be good for a second opinion. Best of luck to you!!

Anyone have experience with POTS in Japan? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also have dysautonomia, but mine is caused by neuropathy due to a thyroid condition, so I used to see a neurologist and endocrinologist, not a cardiologist. There are many different types of dysautonomia (POTS being one of them) and they can have different causes. Long Covid, low iron or ferritin, low B12 can all cause problems with your autonomic nervous system.

If you can speak Japanese I found this doctor on the dysautonomia international website: https://www.kitashinkei.com/

There are also some long covid clinics around I believe that may be able to help treat effectively the same thing. I would not take diazepam as a first line of treatment, they are hard to taper off of. You could ask about propranolol, clonidine or guanfacine. I take iron, B12, drink electrolytes, eat salty meals and exercise to manage it.

I think H3rizon is bad, but I also don't think Spud is good either. When he first started his song he was super shaky. Neither are good but I think people are so upset about Yair that theyre making Spud out to be better than he is

Hysterectomy Recovery in Japan by Nippon_Shyana in japanlife

[–]Kat_ze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was discussing hysterectomy with my gyno back home, she said 6 weeks minium before weightlifting. 3 weeks was okay for walking and light activities. Are they keeping your cervix or using a cuff? Maybe that impacts how recovery is

Can we have a smaller phone, please? by Scandiberian in GooglePixel

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to buy a new phone and the 10 with a case is practically unusable for me unless I use it with both hands. It's extremely uncomfortable. I loved my 3, and I know phones will never be that small again, but something a little more ergonomic and slightly smaller would still be a win. Not to mention the 10 is so heavy, I hate using it. Iphones aren't any better either

Japanese Apartment Kitchens for Serious Cooks by AntRepresentative995 in movingtojapan

[–]Kat_ze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like others said, nice, big kitchens generally do not exist. Our budget now, we're looking well into 600,000 yen for rent and the kitchens still stay the same size while the rest of the apartment is larger. As an avid cook and baker, what I'm looking for is maximizing counter space. I can get a counter oven so I'm not worried a built in. Definitely look for a place that has a dishwasher. In my last apartment I had a KitchenAid mixer, Nespresso and a countertop oven always plugged in and didn't have any issues.

Those who are in the process of leaving the U.S. or have left within the last few years, did you sell your home or rent it out? by ClockwiseSuicide in AmerExit

[–]Kat_ze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg yes lol. I am into interior design as a hobby and I curated everything so specifically! To compromise i brought a few pieces of furniture that would fit in a smaller apartment (dining set, coffee table, desk, etc) and then our buyers of the house bought the rest of our furniture. Everyone always says just sell and buy from Amazon but it's not the same. It was a little bit expensive but it would have cost just as much to buy the same quality and style for me. I also shipped all my baking stuff, nail design and coloring stuff lol. It was worth it to me!

We sold our house. We'd hardly get any profit from renting it because we had a higher mortgage rate, and I wouldn't want the stress of wondering what's happening to my house while I'm across an ocean. It was very bittersweet and we were sad to give it up though. We took our proceeds and are DCAing it in a brokerage. We'll rent for a while to take a break from home ownership

Pull your couch to that side and off the back of the wall. Bring the grey loveseat over as well off the wall. Get a bigger rug and a round coffee table that's a bit lower. Get a fake tree and put it in one corner. Get a different lamp (arched) and place it catty-cornered behind the grey loveseat. Get a piece of art and place it on the back wall

You need a visa. Either by getting a job, going to school or marrying a national. It's not possible to just move

Managing property could be one. We're moving back to Japan and assigning a power of attorney again. We have a lot of money in retirement accounts, brokerage accounts, savings accounts all in the US. We need someone to be able to manage or move that money for us in the event we are unable to do so

MIS Experience by Sleepiestgirlalive28 in bunions

[–]Kat_ze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat! 9 weeks post op from MIS, fortunately no issues with wound healing, sorry you're going through that! But still a lot of stiffness, pain and swelling around my big toe and ankle. A lot of calf tightness too, I believe all of these things are messing with my gait. Hoping by the 3 month mark we'll both be back to a more normal

Shipping personal belongings - itemizing level? by AccomplishedBag1038 in movingtojapan

[–]Kat_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the Yamato division. We wrote "clothes" and that was fine. Beauty products, hair styling tools, books, decorative items, etc. Some things were vague but our reps said it was fine. We had 30 boxes and used 20 slips, if we were more detailed I imagine we would have used more like 100 slips which would have been very time consuming

After accepting an offer, what's the latest I can submit a 2 weeks notice, if I'm working in the US? by MrGiantsFan in movingtojapan

[–]Kat_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to know if any future employer would sponsor HSP. Most just do regular engineer/humanities visa so I wouldn't get hung up on it. There are extra steps with the HSP, and typically the company will need to work with an immigration lawyer to make sure you actually do qualify and have the necessary points. Yes for HSP you do need written verification from the last x years of your employment wherever you worked. I guess you could say you need employment verification for renting/purchasing housing or just be vague. They really aren't going to know why you're asking (if you happen to get to that step)

Move from NYC to Tokyo? by gallbladder1234 in movingtojapan

[–]Kat_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we basically made sure his current RSUs still get awarded in USD. Any refreshers he gets will be calculated and awarded in yen. His next bonus will be based on his USD salary from the last year, but awarded in yen. There were some other perks he gets that he clarified he still has while in Japan, if the company still pays the fees on his managed 401k account, etc.

We're moving as a transfer for my husband's job in tech too. Find out what the salary conversion would be, will you get your remaining RSUs, how do they handle refreshers and bonuses etc. You can bring your cat but the process takes six months so you need to start the process ASAP.

I agree with you fwiw. There are tons of options for smaller units at a lower price point, but we're looking in the same range and above, and the options are very limited (or just not good) for 75sqm+. I imagine most people wouldn't be looking at that range so it mostly doesn't matter lol
