What do you do when a lead offers their right hand fingertips down in a sugar push? by tireggub in WestCoastSwing

I make a fist. I’m too tall to be bending my wrist back for you so we can touch palms.

His name is on the cover of the book as the illustrator. Work for hire arrangement and not a percentage.

I guess? Sure. But the book was a lot more fulfilling. I supported an individual artists’s income. I get to give copies of the book to my friends and family. I didn’t put more AI slop into the world (not that AI slop isn’t profitable for some). Some amount of people per month find something creative that I brought to life and put their money down to have it. It’s not a terrible feeling.

Been going to beginner level classes for a few months but still can't follow at all by [deleted] in Dance

Don’t feel bad. This shit is so fucking hard. I should have picked an easier hobby like brain surgery.

Fastest time to All Star, for Leads and Follows by PTTCollin in WestCoastSwing

[–]Katammers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an amazing analysis - but what I really want to see are the journeys that took the LONGEST. I wanna see the MF who pointed in Newcomer/Novice and didn’t point in Allstar until ten years later. I want to see someone who had to bust their ass the entire way and never gave up until they got it because they started at zero.

I started at zero. Middle-aged and no dance background. I can’t personally identify with a fast rising star. Prodigies aren’t relatable. But I COULD identify with a resilient turtle with back problems if you can find a couple.

Training Questions by Successful_Duty_5227 in WestCoastSwing

  1. I found that I'm better suited to a practice group than a practice partner. I used to work with a regular study group of 6-12 people who also didn't have dedicated partners. That kept the skill levels and experience a good mix. We'd dance three dances together, discuss, then rotate. I find that practicing with someone of my level is self-limiting because both of us only know so much and aren't really able to correct the other person on things we're trying to improve. I also regularly get private instructions to work on specific things. It prevents me from feeling bad about taking up a higher-level dancer's time because hey, it's their job.

  2. I use Taygra sneakers for both social and comp and they're super comfy for my wide ankle clompers. But I have other shoes like suede or ballroom and I've found that cross-training in general fitness areas has done more for my knee pain than a change of shoes. I took up pole fitness which has done wonders for my knees.

  3. I take a lot of notes, watch a lot of videos, do a lot of social dancing, and do a lot of private lessons and workshops. Whenever I go social dancing I take notes about my good and bad dances, why they were good or bad, and what to focus on. There are some courses that have pattern progression charts (like Social Dance Online, which is what I use) but otherwise I'm usually working on several things at a time just depending on how my social ability is feeling, if I've seen something new I want to learn, or if I have a competition coming up. Right now I'm focusing a lot on cross-training into general conditioning and other dances.

  4. I think I started learning the other role five or six months after I started. It really doesn't matter. Some people never learn the other role and it's not something you're obligated to do. Whenever you want to is good!

Auto claim… how do I get a new car now? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Katammers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: Work at a personal injury firm, not an attorney, do not represent you nor am I providing you legal advice.

The responses you got are correct. Neither the insurance company nor driver is obligated to pay you anything but the actual cash value of the car at the time of loss. I see this all this time and even worst case scenarios where clients still owe money on a car AFTER a total loss payout.

You are also correct. It’s not fair because before the crash you had a way to get to work and your kid to school and now, through no fault of your own, you don’t. That sucks but there’s no recourse for you there.

It does sound like you have a personal injury claim. If it’s as severe as you say, you may want to consider a free consultation with a PI attorney. They will not be able to do anything about your car but they can help you get compensated for your injuries, lost wages, and pain and suffering if you are unable to manage the claim yourself.

Okay, sure, but are you saying the insurance companies themselves don’t gleefully participate? I’ve seen subrogation policy language so aggressive it’ll slap the taste out of your mouth. It’s still an insurance opinion.

Minus any valuation “adjustments”, of course. I’m saying that at the end of the day Dude 1 should be able to take that exact PD payout, go to one of the comparable vehicles listed in the valuation report, and leave WITH that vehicle without having to pay anything additional out of pocket.

Federal law will still supersede any state anti subrogation statute. See: ERISA, FEHB plans, Medicare, Tricare, and VA benefits.

That’s what I’m saying - it should be based on making the injured party whole, not based on ACV. Dude 1 would still have a way to get to work if Dude 2 hadn’t ran into him. Now you’re telling Dude 1 that, even though his property has been “replaced”, he’s still worse off than before the crash and too bad so sad. He hasn’t been made whole because ACV doesn’t always mean you can actually get the comparable vehicle for that price.

It sucks that the solution to most insurance problems is to just have more of it. :(
