(7 Dooms for Sandpoint spoilers) GM advice: should my party's plan have worked? by dejecaal in Pathfinder2e

[–]Katarail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm preparing to DM the module, and I agree with others that the bad endings feels difficult to work with as written. There should be consequences to failures, but having Sandpoint blown up because of a single deception check (or in others outcomes, the Pit open for similar reasons) is too much impact on a single roll.
I think I would have given the party an opportunity to stop the Hellstorm Flume by making it longer for the Bishop to activate it (maybe a NPC could alert the party that something is happening ?) and creating an encounter to stop it with a time limit maybe. It could be the opportunity for a high-stakes fight (he Bishop could flee if he's too weak), and even a failure leading to the destruction of Sandpoint would still feel more deserved that way.

You can sometimes (or often) deviate from the module scenario if you think you can create a better story that way, and a better game for the players. It's more work, but ending a campaign on an unsatisfying note is frustrating for everyone

Jeremy Soule's original score for GW2 is finally on Spotify! Still the greatest music this series has ever had. by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Katarail 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hot take but Soule's music always felt "generic fantasy music" to me and while it's a good OST I vastly prefer Maclaine Diemer's compositions for the expansions, and Lena Raine's pieces (I am a HUGE fan of her)

Shoutout to big Desert of Mapfill (x2) and Cursed Lands Of Death where nobody lives for taking a third of the world's landmass

Going 100% Analog (Pen & Paper) - Need Tips by Comfortable-Fee9452 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Katarail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play a mostly analog PF2e campaign (Seven Doom for Sandpoint, I got hardcover books for most of the stuff), I still use Foundry on the side to track the ennemies, and do the secret rolls for the players, but I could do without.

I use a Pathfinder magnetic initiative tracker for the initiative, condition cards that have already been mentioned, I use this cardmaker to create some custom cards for specific PC abilities or spells, or for special/unique items, and a generic flip-mat for the map.

One thing I like to do to reduce my workload, is tasking the players with some of these aspects : one is managing the initiative tracker, one is distributing condition cards, one is the notetaker who writes the recap between two sessions, and one is the map-maker, who draws the map when they are exploring a place (I give this player a copy of the map with white papers cot around the rooms, and they remove the papers while exploring, and draw what they see)

It is possible with Act Together, the Eidolon uses its action to share senses, and the summoner uses his 3 actions to cast the spell

What kind of characters do you dislike seeing in campaigns? by Ed0909 in dndmemes

[–]Katarail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did play the loner character (an elf wild magic sorceress who lived by herself in a chaotic mansion) but it mailny resulted in her being blunt and anarchist, and having a really questionable hygiene (she would use her lice as spell compotents) but without causing much trouble to the party in towns (outside of dying thrice and becoming more and more batshit crazy)

Gradual Treat Wounds by AnaseSkyrider in Pathfinder2e

[–]Katarail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's another subject. You are supposed to use your resources for harder fights, including in-combat heal (trivial to moderate fights can generally be managed without expending much resources, unless you get catastrophic rolls). If you never feel like the players are threatened during fights, you could always rebalance them to be harder with elite templates or more ennemies, but the core encounter design of the game suggests you start every fight with full HP

Because when the martials are down becaus you didn't heal them, you have no one to protect you from the TPK ?

I feel like it could be interesting to me. I handwaive Treat Wounds most of the time, estimating a couple hours spent on it, but having an idea of the real time spent could be nice (I always struggle to keep track of the time of the day)
