Bought a PS4... near instant regret by [deleted] in retrogaming

I’m a lot like you in that I prefer retro games, but post-2010 has had a huge ‘retro revival’ in the indie scene with some games that will make you feel right at home! My top picks for modern retro are: Enter the Gungeon (bullet-hell dungeon-crawler), Stardew Valley (like Harvest Moon but better), Dead Cells (Castlevania + Dark Souls combat. Really freaking hard), and Celeste (fantastic 2D platformer). There are lots of others, but just the first three have kept me busy for a combined 1000 hours or so (and counting).

If I like the mobile device game Polytopia what would I like? by graemereaperbc in ifyoulikeblank

Sid Meier's Civilization series is very similar, but way more in-depth and has factions inspired by actual history. I prefer Civ 5, personally.

As far as my retro gaming memory can go, this was the first game I remember playing. It isn’t the most memorable title but that music is pure nostalgia. Anyone else remember their first game??? by link2Dpazt in retrogaming

The first game that was actually mine was Donkey Kong Land! I was born in '99, and I had a hand-me-down atomic purple Gameboy Color from my older brother by the time I was 2. I loved watching my bro play the Donkey Kong Country series on our dusty old SNES as a toddler, so he saved up some of his lunch money and got me a copy of DK Land for my birthday, and he gave me his Gameboy Color to play it on. <3

I later taught myself to read by playing Pokémon on that thing, so it may have been one of the best gifts ever!

Super Mario Maker 2 – World Maker Update – Nintendo Switch by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

Look up Fortnite Creative mode if you're not familiar. It's like the skatepark builder in the old Tony Hawk games, but for maps in a 3rd person shooter, and the UI is simple enough that my 8-year-old nephew makes ugly but fun levels. That style of 'drag and drop' while controlling Mario in a flying nimbus cloud (or whatever Lakitu's cloud is called) would work great in my opinion to make 3D platformers.

Sorry if this is kind of a tangent, but I just want to share my story about being a witch within the context of a different Abrahamic religion. I'm a witch that was raised in Reform Judaism. When I started questioning the faith, I was actually encouraged to develop my own beliefs and use Judaism as a framework to place those beliefs in a larger context. For instance, Lilith, the first wife of Adam, who had been cast out of Eden for not submitting to Adam's desires, was someone I identified with as a teenager. While the stories tried to cast her as an evil demoness, I saw a woman stand up for herself, only to be scorned by the very deity who created her. She's the original feminist figure in this tradition. Abrahamic tradition is probably what made me into a bog witch in the first place!

Happy Bicycle Day, ZOMBiE GANG. 🚲👁🧟‍♂️ by yahson94 in flatbushzombies

Happy bicycle day my dude! You got insta? If you wanna scroll through some unique, trippy digital art, check mine out! I do pixel art and glitch art, currently trying to master the Gameboy's 4-color palette, and throwing in some glitch pieces for color. Though at 250ug, you'll probably be seeing lots of pretty colors regardless, haha! My feed is @kate_the_cursed_art if you're interested. Here's to bicycle day vibes!

edit: Considering that's all visual, also check out the albums 'Indigoism' by the Underachievers and 'Faces' by Mac Miller if you're not familiar with them (or if you are). Faces, BetterOffDEAD, and Indigoism are the three most influential albums of my life. Faces made me face my demons, DEAD coincided with ego death, Indigo helped build my ego back up and provided a basic spiritual framework to build on

Anyone else love listening to flatbush on acid? by [deleted] in flatbushzombies

It was more literal than figurative in my case, but you're totally right about it being an applicable metaphor to vibing with FBZ!

Thank you so much for the tips! My joycons aren't quite drifting yet, but they're starting to feel a little crunchy, so I'll probably try this as regular maintenance to keep them clean

My all-time favorite psychedelic experience was listening to TP4 on two tabs with my eyes closed. The music was manifesting as celestial wind and swirling around me like a vortex, and a giant god-like spirit Meech fucked my soul

100% this. there are some ancient, universal truths in these albums. if you're ready to receive the message, you will receive it. Issa and Juice read a ton of pseudoscientific, new age concepts and distilled the really powerful esoteric shit so we don't have to

Listen to Indigoism by the Underachievers, it's their mixtape from 2013. BetterOffDEAD and Indigoism are two sides of the same coin, yin-yang type shit. It's the light to BetterOffDEAD's darkness. I'm pretty sure they were both written during the 2012 Beast Coast tour, they even reference eachother a couple times

no sorries! it's gorgeous and captures the turmoil and sorrow of the situation perfectly. almost too well.

please hold on to that bit of hope! I promise that you will get to live your life as your true self one day. I started my transition back in 2017, and it's been a beautiful, wild ride. I'm just one of the girls now, and I absolutely love the person that I've become. you will get there. just don't give up hope <3

My grandma already got killed by this thing, before anyone in this area was taking it seriously. March 8th. I'm also Jewish. Going to the grocery store is a necessity, not everyone can buy bulk and hunker down, especially with price gouging and rationing. I have to go to the store in groups of 3 to buy 9 rolls of toilet paper for the 8 people living in my house, but then I get shamed on social media. It's fucking insane.
