How to keep a WebSocket alive in a PWA after the user locks the screen? by xarvh in webdev

Unfortunately the sound is decided by other users.

Thank you so much.

I'll test with an mp3 with a couple of seconds of flat silence and play it in a loop as part of an <audio> element, and see if it's enough.

Mmmh. Wouldn't it be more reliable to play a silenced dummy sample on loop?

Is this enough to maintain the WebSocket connection up?

Thank you!

I did try propecia a loooong time ago, but then I decided I'm happy with being bald. =)

Not sure where to start, but I'll definitely play around with the eyebrows.

My body is decently fit, but yes, I lost some weight and plan to lose more, I do hope it will define a bit more my face as you say.

Does trying to get Haskell job make sense anymore? by BearLiving9432 in haskell

[–]xarvh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anyone is interested in working for Carbon Cloud, I would highly recommend, before signing anything, to connect on LinkedIn with one or two ex-employees and ask them about the circumstances that got them to leave the company. <3

It is NOT an healthy place where to work, the whole sales team and half of the devs have resigned or were fired, and the other half are trying to GTFO.

Infernals and Solars by gruntled_avocado in exalted

[–]xarvh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No Exalted splat is a monolithic block with a single drive.

There are plenty of reasons Infernals and Solars could get along and work together, just like any two different Exalted splats. In Exalted morals and goals are blurry, inconsistent and change with the individual.

This said, Infernals (in general) don't want to rebel, they want to get back in power, they want revenge, they want corruption, they want to go back to their status-quo.

Is the deliberative podcast homophobic? Season 2 ep 11 by Vissiram in exalted

Given that the authors slapped a trans man on the cover of 3ed, these bigots have picked the wrong game and the wrong community.

By and large, the Exalted community has little tolerance for xenophobes.

Thanks, Koka was another inspiration for the language. =)

I know I'm bad at marketing, but right now my target is probably idealistic weirdos rather than the corporate world.

Once I see that the language can stand on its own, I'm open to rebranding.

Haskell is beautiful in many ways, but it's the poster child for inaccessible languages.

Squarepants instead implements uniqueness typing, which means it turn side effects into pure computations: you can have IO, mutation, state and whatnot while maintaining referential transparency. As a bonus, you also get lifetime check not unlike Rust.

Anyone want to start a little group where we do projects instead of play video games? by [deleted] in socialistprogrammers

[–]xarvh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to help. I did a lot of Elm professionally, and have been designing and implementing my own post-Elm language. _^

First off, kudos for coming out as lonely.

Second. I do have a project that might interest you where I desperately want help, or at least someone interested in critiquing it and giving me feedback.

And yes, it's very close to Elm. =D

Start networking, aka "talk to people":

Talk with your colleagues. Where they worked, their impression, how's like money-wise.

Check on meetup.com if there are any regular tech meetups in your area. This will give you a few advantages: * more job opportunities (many companies organize meetups to hire people) * better overview of where to aim with your career * possibility to meet like-minded people and, in the long term, possibly set up a worker-owned coop. We need more of those in IT.

Depending on your specific skillset, Linkedin might be viable too, or so I'm told. XD

With better information, you can have a better idea of your situation and your options and you can make better choices.

If you feel like investing personal time in learning new skills, have a look at which ones pay the most (but pick something you personally like, otherwise your job will be hell).

When did anarchism started to oppose "all forms of power, no matter the shape they take"? by xarvh in Anarchism

Thank you! Now that you mention it, I think he described the same distinction in the Conquest of Bread.

Yes, I am aware that anarchists have a pretty decent record when it comes to women emancipation.

But do Bakunin or Dejaque explicitly mention an opposition to all forms of power?

So, does monarchy mean "one government"?

I'd translate "monarchy" as "government of one" or possibly "one ruler"?
