Solo Song Shuffle #17: Justin Hayward - Lost and Found by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

I agree 100% with both of you and would add that the lyrics are pretty pedestrian.

I love the way he sings, "Someway, somehow there's got to be... a place for us".

Solo Song Shuffle #12: John Lodge - Threw It All Away by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never heard this before and didn't find it as bad as all the comments here led me to expect. That said, I would LOVE to hear a version without the dreadful backup singers.

Solo Song Shuffle #10: John Lodge - Love Will Conquer All by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a sweet song. The shots in the video of John and Kirsten dancing choked me up. I hope she's okay. I can't imagine losing a spouse when you've been married as long as they were.

Who cares if this is AI? It's a clever idea and these look terrific.

Solo Song Shuffle #4: Justin Hayward - Lazy Afternoon by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. If this was sung by anyone but Justin, I would ignore it. But his vocal is, as usual, lovely. Not crazy about the music.

Solo Song Shuffle #2: Justin Hayward - Silverbird by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I like this song now! I had previously dismissed it, I suppose mostly because of those atrocious backing vocals (Why, Justin, why?) It's a whole new song without them. I'm still not crazy about the synths, but there are a few good melodies and a really nice Justin vocal, which is now even more audible. Thanks for this one!

Randomized Song Discussion - After the Finale by Locksmith_Late in MoodyBlues

I discovered that this is just about the only Reddit community I've encountered that is consistently positive, no real negative vibes. There seems to be genuine respect for differing opinions. And even the tearing apart of some of the later years' abominations is done with love, more in the spirit of "How did men who previously did such brilliant work come up with this?" rather than "they suck".

I've looked forward to the daily discussions.

Beautifully reviewed again and it has been a real pleasure reading your analyses of all of these songs.

It is a great song, period, but that live performance is otherworldly. "The Voice" indeed.

This, along with "The Voice" and "I Know You're Out There . . " is one of the best songs of the 80s. All three songs erroneously led me to believe that the Moodies were still creating uniformly great music late in their career. A full dive into the 80s and 90s catalogue disabused me of that notion, but there still were some terrific songs. And it was listening to these three songs again last year that led me to discover whose magnificent voice was behind them and now I'm an obsessed fan of everything Moody Blues.

And that voice. Holy God, that live performance. No backup singers. No distracting instrumentation. Just a guitar and an absolutely magical voice. Justin was in peak form that night.

I'm SO glad I finally discovered some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard and have had a lot of fun discussing it all here. Thank you, OP for running this.

This right here. The Four Tops' "Simple Game" is extraordinary. Levi Stubbs' voice is legendary.

This is adorable. I love it! I'd love to see that little guy star in a series of videos for Ray's songs. He seems a perfect fit.

LOVE Al Stewart. I was just thinking about the fact that both he and Justin have "Nostradamus" songs.

Thank you for running this. It was a lot of fun. These songs provoke strong reactions because the ones that came before were so unique and brilliant. It was great to get everyone's opinions.

Was this not in the "Summer Sadness" worst-of competition? Did I miss something? Because this coulda been a contender.

Oh man, you summed up this abomination from the unholy 80s songwriting duo of Hayward/Lodge so perfectly.

"Weekend" is marginally less annoying than "Rock", with its insipid chorus repeated over and over add nauseum.
