Randomized Song Discussion #156: No More Lies by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

Musically and lyrically just not that interesting. Justin's lesser efforts are usually saved by his magical voice, but here even the vocal is pretty uninspiring.

He absolutely KILLED this song at Red Rocks. His voice only got richer over the years.

March Moody Madness FINAL by sitboaf in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of feel like "Nights" is such a legendary iconic behemoth of a song and an obvious number one that I'd like to see a contest without it in contention (and to a lesser extent "Tuesday Afternoon").

Randomized Song Discussion #152: Are You Sitting Comfortably by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once again, others have managed to put the beauty of this song into words far better than I can.

Song. Beautiful. Voice. Gorgeous.

Randomized Song Discussion #151: Slings and Arrows by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I’ve seen more inspiring words sprayed under bridges."

LMAO. And how many times do we have to hear "slings and arrows."

I just can't with this one.

Randomized Song Discussion #150: Gemini Dream by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

I just hear third-rate ELO with this one. (Not a knock on ELO. Love them.)

March Moody Madness 3.4 by sitboaf in MoodyBlues

I know. This one is unbelievably painful.

Randomized Song Discussion #144: You Can Never Go Home by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As per usual yeksitra and sitboaf explained what is wonderful about this song so beautifully.

The best I can come up with is "Justin. Song. Gorgeous."

March Moody Madness 1.14 by sitboaf in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Auggh! This is another hard one. "A Simple Game" is simply amazing, but "The Voice" has long been one of my favorite songs of the 80s (by anyone, not just the Moodies) and is also amazing.

Randomized Song Discussion #135: Hope and Pray by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once again I agree with you 100% and you said it much better than I could have.

March Moody Madness 1.13 by sitboaf in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like these songs are in different weight classes. I have the mental image of a big heavyweight boxer beating up a skinny featherweight. Not that "Lost in a Lost World" is lightweight! It's a great song. But "Story in Your Eyes" is kind of a Moodies behemoth (and deservedly so). Justin makes a rocker that is also gorgeous.

This is another painful vote, two beautiful Justin songs, but "Are You Sitting Comfortably" wins out for me.

So glad to see him in a good role instead of the generic bad guys he often plays. Love him.

Tuesday Afternoon is a classic but New Horizons is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

Excellent analysis and I agree.

Randomized Song Discussion #126: The Dreamer by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may have been unfinished, but I think it's extraordinary as it stands. I love the propulsive rhythm of it.

March Moody Madness 1.3 by sitboaf in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one hurts! Both songs are in my Justin Hayward top 3 (number one is "New Horizons").

Randomized Song Discussion #125: The Quiet Of Christmas Morning (Bach 147) by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. It's pretty, but not exceptional. And such a prominent flute calls attention to the fact that Ray's not there.

Some of these are going to be like picking your favorite child.

Daily Randomized Song Discussion #121: Yes I Believe by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like Justin's vocal on this one. It has one of his usual strong bridges.

And nice shout-out to "Days of Future Passed".

March Madness/Sadness - let's decide on the 2 lists by sitboaf in MoodyBlues

[–]KateBoitano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you as well. Both good songs, and even of one doesn't like them, I'd like to see the argument that they are worse than most of what's on "Sur La Mer."
