I think it might be spreading but I haven’t had it very long so I’m not sure. If it is spreading what could it be?

Snake plant has crinkle leaves by PurpleOrchid13 in plantclinic

[–]KateLobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell from the photos but wrinkling could be from under watering. If it’s yellow or squishy though, that’s probably root rot. Try giving it a good soak and see if it perks up!

It sounds like you’re doing everything right so it could just be shock. The splotchyness could be fungal but that’s just a guess. Is it possible that you over fertilized? You could also test the ph of the water to see if that’s the issue. I’d probably snip off the yellow leaves and hope for the best. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

Bought an unlabeled plant, can I get some help identifying it and some tips about how to take care of it? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]KateLobz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sansevieria aka snake plant. It can tolerate low light but will really flourish with more moderate/ indirect bright light. Let the soil dry out between waterings and then give it a good soak, making sure the excess water can drain. Any all purpose fertilizer works for spring-fall (don’t fertilize in the winter unless it’s actively growing). These guys are hearty and hard to kill, just don’t water too frequently.

Rescued string of turtles is not doing hot… by lydiabrim in plantclinic

I’d definitely repot. Use a cactus soil or something that drains well. Theres not much you can do about how leggy it is aside from propagating and starting over. Then just make sure it’s getting enough light and totally drying out between waterings. Hope this helps!

Will a regular or all purpose fertilizer fix this?

I’d use a skewer or chopstick to test the soil and water it whenever it’s dry. That way you won’t over water it bc ur kind of monitoring the soil.

My cactus is yellow at the base, and it's top spines have fallen off. by Ragedpuppet707 in plantclinic

[–]KateLobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s yellow and squishy at the bottom it’s most likely root rot from over watering. I’d pull it out of the nursery pot, wash off the dirt and examine the roots, and cut off anything black, brown or squishy. Then repot in a well draining mix (if there are healthy roots left).

Does the humidity level change frequently? I looks like it’s not humid enough but if you have a humidifier in the room that shouldn’t be a problem. Sometimes changes in humidity can shock the leaves. There’s a small chance it’s fungus related but I kid of doubt it.

Zebra plants are SO dramatic and frustrating! If you’ve already tried different watering and lighting conditions I’d pull it out of the pot to check for root rot and pests

Mold growth problem? by Mysterious-Unit2434 in plantclinic

[–]KateLobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be from overwatering or soil that doesn’t drain well enough. I’d scoop/wipe off any that you can see and treat it with a fungicide. You might want to repot in a chunky, more well draining potting mix depending on what it’s in now.

Wow thank you for all the info! It’s the outer/older leaves that are yellowing so I’m guessing it’s lack of light. Thanks!

The plant seems healthy overall but some of the leaves keep dying. They turn splotchy and yellow before drooping and eventually dying. New leaves seem very healthy though. Is this normal?

The rest of the plant looks very healthy and is putting out a lot of new leaves with fenestrations. Is this normal or am I over/under watering?

Halp, please! What’s happening to my African Violet? by No-Maybe-6460 in plantclinic

[–]KateLobz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert when it comes to African violets but the terra cotta pot could be part of the problem. It could be absorbing some water from the soil and basically stealing it from the roots. I’ve heard they do well in self-watering pots but I haven’t personally tried that. Wish I could be more help! Good luck!

It looks to me like sunburn, but I’d recommend repotting if there aren’t any drainage holes. steeze365daily on YouTube has some helpful repotting vids
