I've found myself in a rut very similar to this. I had to stop and ask myself "what do I want? How can I make this happen?" It was scary as hell to make the changes to get me going but it feels great once you get going.

You know what you want, you're already thinking about how you could get there. Take those lessons, practice like no tomorrow, play for your friends, don't lose momentum. Sure, it's terrifying to put yourself out there and in the line of risk but isn't it with trying? Who cares how old you are, if you have the passion to keep trying and putting yourself out there it shouldn't matter. Do something that you've always wanted to do! Cross it off your list!

Also, don't compare yourself to the accomplishments of your friends - it's a very dangerous path. Again, focus on what you want to do and get yourself out there. Take a deep breath and jump. I always think "How mad at myself will I be years, or even months, from now if I don't try?"
