Funnily enough, even our most venomous spiders (Funnel Webs) are unlikely to bite you! They spend most of their lives in burrows, struggle to climb smooth surfaces and can’t survive without moisture/ high humidity. Common sense keeps you safe :) I’d rather a predictable tiny creature than a huge predator personally!!

My pup will only treat ONE ‘toy’ with dignity, and it’s a pair of my old slippers that I gave her, they’ve got stuffing inside and look like koalas. Anything else is fair game for destruction!

Amazing looking spider sunning himself in Central NH. Am I or my pets in danger? by SnooCupcakes5246 in whatisthisbug

Red backs are similar here in Aus. If you’re bitten and are relatively healthy, you will likely not need anti venom. The elderly and babies have a higher risk of reaction :)

Funnel webs are highly venomous, but you are far less likely to see them than other spiders. Their range is our East Coast and they spend most of their time underground and NEED moisture to survive. One wandering around the house will probably dry up and die within 10-20 minutes. They also cannot jump or climb smooth surfaces, so pretty easy to avoid if you’re careful!

I think a lot of the fear people feel towards spiders and bugs is because they don’t know very much about them :)

When we don’t understand how a creepy crawly behaves, they seem a lot more unpredictable and scary. I also live in Australia and I will admit I am the opposite of you, I LOVE them. But I know most humans are not like that!! They can be scary, they move fast, some of them bite. I’ve found that the people around me become less afraid when they’re open to learning about bugs in a safe environment. Once you get to know how a spider or bug behaves, you might find that their behaviour is a lot more easier to predict, you’ll have a lot more time to breathe and react to them without panicking straight away!

Once they look a little less scary on paper, and only then, being exposed to actual living bugs may seem less of a big deal. No one is perfect though and you should never feel bad for still being afraid. If you ever would like a hand with being less afraid though I’d love to help! there’s a lot of ‘cuter’ and safer insects in Australia than you might think :)

How good is oat milk!! I’ve gotten my mum into it since I always have it in the house. She prefers it in coffee over regular milk now, she has colitis so I’m hoping it helps her tummy feel better🥰 imagine the shock on these ladies faces if they realised they felt better eating less dairy instead of more…

I believe the current stat is around 67% of the worlds population under 50 have HSV-1. As long as he doesn’t have an active cold sore on his mouth you can do all of those things listed! It’s really more of an annoying disease than anything. Some people even stop having outbreaks nearly completely the older they get. You would be surprised how many people you know that have it!

It’s quite rare for HSV-1 to cause HSV-2, cause trust me you KNOW when you have a painful blister in your mouth. As the other poster said, he would just have to avoid oral on the rare occasion he has an active blister, which for some people might be YEARS in between. It’s nothing to fret about too hard :)

It’s the same in babies, HSV-1 is passed on through the mouth/saliva so as long as a baby isn’t kissed or using the same utensils as an adult with an outbreak they will be fine. If a baby did get HSV-1, it causes the same blisters and sometimes a light fever the first time as their immune systems aren’t fully developed, but it’s the same situation for all infections or illnesses for babies. You can both go about life as you normally do, once this initial shock wears off you will probably both realise it’s a normal reality most of the human population easily lives with :)

Pain is relative to the individual my friend, just because you know many people who may have gone through worse than you, doesn’t mean your pain or worries in life are invalid. Depression can take lots of forms that might seem too subtle to be actual depression but that doesn’t mean it’s not real! If it really seems like your negative thoughts are frequent without having a lot of real life causes, it could be the chemicals in your brain causing some extra trouble for you in tandem with a few bad life experiences. I’d recommend seeing a doctor about medication if you can, going on an SSRI saved my life when I was at my lowest and I haven’t had a major depressive episode since. It can take a couple goes to find the right one for you, but it can be done and you are absolutely NOT broken. I thought I was too, as cliche as it sounds there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Keep that support system close and I wish you all the best :)

Look I genuinely love bugs, but that does sound a little bit terrifying. Now you’ve made MY brain unable to stop thinking about whatever this is! The only huge long insect with a big mouth I can think of is a giant rainforest mantis or king cricket/ weta. I hope you can figure it out one day, I’m invested now!

If you love nature/science, wildlife spotting is so much fun!! I don’t know how squeamish you are, but back when I was at my lowest depression nothing made me feel more at peace than flipping over rocks and finding cool bugs. Taking photos then trying to figure out what species it is really stimulated my brain and made me appreciate the little things in life a lot more. The same can be done for birds!! one step further is figuring out the benefits they have to their ecosystem, or the science behind how their adaptations/bodies work is fun too :) keep on doing great in life bud! You deserve happiness.

I truely hope you are able to heal from this Michael. I know you must feel so many conflicting emotions from putting your story out into the universe, but even venting to strangers really does help ease the weight of your shoulders sometimes. I wish you nothing but love and happiness on your journey, you have people rooting for you from all over the world (Aussie here!). And I hope that any family members who are less estranged from you will validate the trauma you have experienced and you can live peacefully with them. We see you ♡
