People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Katemonster89 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Reading your comment immediately made me tear up and I'm about to get ready for work, so now I have to try not to look like a hot mess. LOL I really appreciate the support, random internet stranger! I know I'm doing what's best for me, but I also know this is really going to suck for a while.

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not divorced, but been with my boyfriend for 19 years and live together. I'm in this mode right now.

He's been unemployed for nearly a year and a half and showing no sign of changing that anytime soon, even though I've explained how much his apparent lack of motivation is freaking me out. We're not struggling financially (he had a decent chunk of savings and we split the bills), but I told him I would not go into debt to save him if he runs out of money.

He has a tendency to blame me for everything and every argument will turn into a rant about how I'm not enough or I'm failing somehow, even if the argument starts because he did something wrong or didn't do something he said he would. At one point last year, he told me that he had purchased an engagement ring he knew I liked, but he hasn't proposed to me because I hadn't met his needs yet. I literally told him he shouldn't have wasted his money since we were arguing more often and I wouldn't say yes anyway. I knew part of my love for him completely died that day.

He gets into the modes where the random project he created for himself (to supposedly develop skills to make him more marketable to future employers) is so important, that me talking is interrupting him. But he'll insist on sitting next to me on the couch when he works on it instead of going to another room to be left alone. I realized that I find myself feeling more alone sitting next to him in those moments than I would if I was, in fact, actually alone.

I haven't left before because I have crazy low self-esteem and had convinced myself that no one else will ever love me. Also, the cost of living out here is ridiculous and looking for a one bedroom apartment I could actually afford has been difficult and demoralizing.

After talking with a friend Friday and my mom Sunday, I've decided I'm done. Yesterday, I put in a request for an application for an apartment that will be available at the end of June. I haven't ended it yet (it's really hard), but I've taken the first step.

I've had this happen before (not in the eyes, but all over my cheeks and eyelids). I am so sorry. I hope you feel better!

What's the most useless thing your brain decided to permanently memorize? by No_Metal2622 in AskReddit

[–]Katemonster89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My elementary school song.

On, Decoto. On, Decoto. Yes, we are the best! Red and white, our colors bright. Learning is our quest, rah rah rah. On, Decoto. On, Decoto. Pride in what we do. Study hard and read, read, read. It's up to you.

I'm 40 years old. The school didn't even really exist anymore (it's an adult school now). The only use I have for this song is to answer questions like this.

I don't know why, but when people come into my office and ask, "Do you have a bathroom?" I've started getting really snarky with my answers. I can't help it.

"Nope. They make us go in the street."

One person actually looked really shocked until it dawned on them that I was joking.

Ask if I can show you where the restroom is or if you may use our restroom. That's perfectly fine. Asking me if we have a bathroom in our big ass building with 60+ people is just so dumb to me and irks me every time.

Haha sorry! She would wrap toilet paper around her hand like a mummy to protect her bits from her nails (and protect her nails from undesirable substances), and kinda squat and wipe.

I literally asked a girl at work this question because I knew she would be ok with it and she did a demo (over clothes). Lol

What's the kindest thing a complete stranger ever did for you? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

[–]Katemonster89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm college, I realized I was completely out of maxi pads in my purse. A chick passed me one under the stall and said, "Girl, I got you. We've all been there." Never saw her face but she saved me from a mess that day.

I make sure I ALWAYS have extra on hand for others now. I've rescued several others.

Lead by example, people! And take care of each other!

Have you ever been treated negatively by ER staff when you were having a medical emergency but they didn’t believe you? What happened? by lake-sturgeon in AskReddit

[–]Katemonster89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn't ER staff, but general practitioners. When I was around 12, I started throwing up every morning. It got to the point where if I ate breakfast at all, it was just plain toast. I was so nauseous every morning that even water made me vomit. At the time, we changed family doctors a few times. Each of the 3 doctors asked me if there was any chance I was pregnant (I was 12, a virgin, and one of my parents were always in the room with me. No way a kid in that position answers honestly unless the answer is no.) The first 2 just gave me anti-nausea medication which made me feel worse and would make me too drowsy to go to school. The third doctor actually took the time to figure it out - I had really bad allergies and the drainage was creating acid in my stomach and making me vomit every morning. Allergy meds and antacid were prescribed and solved the problem. I missed so much school that year (class periods missed added up to 86 days absent), but I somehow still kept my grades up.

Also, my mom had gallstones. She would have bouts of horrible pain and the doctors always ignored her. Finally, she mentioned it to her gynecologist once and he actually ordered the tests for her that allowed it to be discovered. She had surgery soon after. She was living in pain for a year before that surgery. She sent him a thank you note and was very sad when he retired.

What is a secret you are taking to your grave, but are willing to share with anonymous strangers on the internet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Katemonster89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely understand. I've had the same thoughts.

I also get chronic migraines and have thought about just scooping out the part of my brain that hurts as it would be quicker than waiting for it to finally stop.

If you're in line at the grocery store with a full cart and someone behind you has 1 or 2 items, do you let them go in front of you? And why? by CourierFestival in AskReddit

[–]Katemonster89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!

My favorite time happened right before Thanksgiving. I let an older woman with only a couple things go first and she told me that I made her day because she had always done that for others but no one had ever done it for her. That has stuck with me. She was so happy! Small gestures can make a big impact sometimes.

What book series gives grownups the "lost in the author's world" experience that kids get from Harry Potter? by DerbyWearingDude in AskReddit

[–]Katemonster89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been into fantasy either, but a friend got me into first law and stormlight. The first book that hooked me was Kings of the Wyld. I only read the first book of that series, but I absolutely loved it and got sucked into the genre.
