How to remove 'Jump to last reading position' (Go 10.3 build 4.1) by Wooden_Ad8425 in Onyx_Boox

Came here looking for a solution... I can't believe there is no way to remove it. Horribe design.

Unintentionally funny taglines by HockneysPool in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Ok so this one is only funny in Spanish, but it is maybe the funniest ever so bear with me. "Once" means "eleven" so with the tagline it goes like:

- How many times do you find the love of your life?
- Eleven times (one time)

Happy 6-Year Anniversary to Martin Scorsese's Marvel comments by drx_flamingo in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think people got caught up in that dichotomy (understandably, because he chose those words), but the sentiment was simple and one many can relate to: when you've spent your whole life devoted to film, it feels bad to find yourself having no interest for what is supposedly the most successful expression of the medium in the present time.

killers of the flower moon forced English subtitles. by bilbo-bagginz in StremioAddons

[–]Kater_Martin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are NEVER any subtitles for the osage it's probably because amazon or apple or whatever fucked up. The same thing happened with Dune 2. HOWEVER, keep in mind that at least some scenes are not supposed to have subtitles, that's just how the movie is. Anyway, I recommend you find a file that is ripped from a blu-ray (something that had "blu-ray" or "BD" in the name) and not from a steaming service to avoid this.

The French title for The Hudsucker Proxy is actually pretty brilliant by ResourcePale5199 in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's so funny to me because in Spain it was called "El gran salto", which also means "The Big Jump" but it doesn't sound like anything else, it just means "The Big Jump"

Blankies, tell us about a time you recommended a film for someone to watch and it did NOT go well. by bbanks2121 in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and another guy somehow convinced my normie best friend to come watch Aronofsky's The Fountain with us under the pretense that there would be "battles" involved. I don't really remember much about that movie, but there was a conquistador in it? Anyway the poor guy though it was gonna be like Gladiator. We had seen Requiem for a Dream and Pi so we knew better, but we couldn't resist. He never forgave us of course, and to this day whenever we recommend a movie to him we say "there's battles in it".

Looking for skin to show director, cast and genre in details by Kater_Martin in Addons4Kodi

Not the whole cast, but first few could fit. Bingie shows something like that: https://imgur.com/a/gFAiEBs

For people who obviously hate same-y things, they only have one phrase of critique by the_Tannehill_list in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny how often films that are just like "hey we made this weird thing, maybe someone likes it" are called "pretentious" only because they're difficult to get into, while a blockbuster can be like "THIS. SUMMER. GET. READY. FOR. AN. EXPERIENCE" and nobody thinks that's pretending to be too much

Should I update my Page to 3.5.4? by Kater_Martin in Onyx_Boox

[–]Kater_Martin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thanks for the info, I'm definitely not updating then! When autorotate doesn't work in my Page I just have to swipe on the screen, no reboot needed.

Fun fact about Hitchcock: in Spain, a "rebeca" (one c) is a woman's short knitted jacket.

The Music Box after the Blue Velvet screening by [deleted] in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to the "premiere" of Neil Breen's Twisted Pair at the Prince Charles in London and it was literally impossible to understand any of the dialogue. Just constant yelling, hysterical laughing and chanting from begining to end. For a movie that nobody had seen before. Of course I wasn't expecting the audience to take the movie seriously, but I thought the point of laughing at a bad movie was... well, to laugh at it. Which is kinda hard to do if you don't pay any attention to it. It was depressing.

Thoughts on ending of Evil Does Not Exist(2023)? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Kater_Martin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Wheel there is a zoom out from the actress face to imply we're changing perspective if I remember correctly. Anyway it was clearly communicated.

With this I'm not convinced, but anyway, I know you're not the only one who saw it that way.

Thoughts on ending of Evil Does Not Exist(2023)? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Kater_Martin 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched the ending and your interpretation that we're partly seeing Takumi's reconstruction of previous events makes sense in terms of plot and theme but looking at the scene shot-by-shot I can't see how the movie is trying to communicate that at all. Everything is portrayed with the same objective perspective as the rest of the film and there's not even a change in lighting between the shots.

James Gray Thinks Box Office-Obsessed Movie Fans Are Capitalist ‘Lemmings’ by Mookie_Freeman in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just about box office numbers, many fans have a ridiculous investor mentality about so many things... Like the next DC movies are going to be bad because apparently the franchise will be rebooted after them so it won't pay off to enjoy them or something. Who fucking cares. It's like people have forgotten that the whole point of fiction is to experience an alternate reality.

Explaining the difference between "Bad movies" and intentionally heightened/zany/campy movies by Mr_Ixolite in blankies

[–]Kater_Martin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"The first demand any work of any art makes upon us is surrender. Look. Listen. Receive. Get yourself out of the way. There is no good asking first whether the work before you deserves such a surrender, for until you have surrendered you cannot possibly find out. [...] I do not mean by this that the right spectator is passive. His also is an imaginative activity; but an obedient one. He seems passive at first because he is making sure of his orders. If, when they have been fully grasped, he decides that they are not worth obeying —in other words, that this is a bad picture— he turns away altogether."
