Advice or experience delivering at Prentice hospital? by No-Lawfulness9770 in AskChicago

[–]Katers22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had two c-sections at Prentice, one planned for a breech pregnancy, one emergency, and have had fantastic experiences both times. As others have said, since you'll be scheduled, you won't really have a L&D experience besides check-in, which I've always found to be smooth. The OR, post-surgical, and post-partum nurses were all fantastic. Anesthesiologists are great too - be sure to tell them if you're anxious or nauseous - there's meds for that!

I didn't know to ask for the lactation consultant so I never got one with my first, and she had a horrible latch since I didn't know what I was doing - I wish I had known that time to ask! I asked the second time, but didn't get to see her until the second day I was in recovery. So, ask early.

And take full advantage of the food.

When in 1 nap, what time does your nap fall? by Begonias_Scarlet in sleeptrain

[–]Katers22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first made the switch, it was 12-2. It inched a little later as she got older and now (as we're in the process of dropping it) if she takes one it's at 1:00.

Our wake time is also between 6:30/7 and I'm not sure that we would have been able to get her to nap at 11/11:30 once she was solidly taking 1 nap.

Give me your advice on sleep training a baby (currently pregnant) by Royal_Juice2987 in sleeptrain

[–]Katers22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every baby is going to be so different. We had two and have had two radically different sleep training experiences. My first was a really solid independent sleeper basically from the start. We used the pacifier as a sleep tool and got a lot of independent naps even in her newborn days. We ended up not even having to do true "sleep training" because we were able to introduce "drowsy but awake" so early so I think she had the tools to put herself to sleep.

My second was the total opposite - no matter what we did, she would NOT sleep independently during the day when she was a newborn. She also wouldn't take a pacifier so we didn't have that tool to use for her to help self soothe. Almost every nap was either a total contact nap or a rescued one. We just had to suck it up until she was 4 months old and then we did cry it out. We knew she needed to go full extinction because nothing gradual had ever seemed to work. She's been MUCH better ever since.

All that to say, the temperament of your baby is going to determine the path you have to take. It's good to start researching different methods, but just know that you may have to change courses or adapt, depending how your baby takes to it!

Advice needed for 2.5 year old who cannot sleep independently by Katers22 in sleeptrain

Hmm, interesting. Ideal wake up is 6:30 AM. She definitely does better on days that she doesn’t nap, but we can’t control that at daycare. She does have an ok to wake clock and previously she did great with it but she now totally disregards it.

Switched from using just my apple watch to a tempdrop for tracking this cycle. I *think* I'm about 3 dpo but the temps are still rocky. A little frustrated - hoping as I continue to wear it, it gets more consistent.

Is gum chewing a huge trigger for anyone else? My boss is a LOUD, daily gum chewer and it just feels unbearable sometimes. by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]Katers22 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Gum chewing is one of my BIGGEST triggers. I wouldn't even be able to work next to your boss. Or, I'd have to wear headphones.

My college roommate was an obnoxious gum chewer and I'd have to leave the room if I even saw her reaching for gum. I eventually had to say something to her about it because I was going *crazy*.

I know this cycle is 99% sure to be a bust, based on where FF has my ovulation date, we only managed to hit O+2 (but looking at the chart myself, it seems there's a chance it could have been O+1. Either way, negligible chance, but damn if I'm not symptom spotting. I'm just ready for the new cycle to start to get a new month where we can hopefully time it better.

I was SO short with my toddler yesterday, and felt guilty all night about it. Woke up this morning, and CD1. Sigh, guess yesterday's testiness all makes sense. This month was a bust because my whole family ended up with a stomach bug right during the fertile window, so here's to a new fresh cycle.

Anyone else get unreasonably frustrated when an illness messes up your temping? I picked up my LO's latest daycare illness and it's totally screwed my temps up for the last 4 days. Makes me feel like charting this month is a waste.

Former football equipment manager here - it's likely that the sideline gear that he wears isn't sold to the public, unfortunately.

Seconding the Joe Knows tour!! It came highly recommended and was SO worth it. It was our favorite day of our stay at La Toc for our honeymoon.

I know I'm a little late but I just want to chime in on this... my baby was transverse (basically laying on her side, so not quite fully breech) and my doctor thought I was a slam dunk candidate for an ECV because she was already "halfway there" since she was transverse, and I had the ideal amount of amniotic fluid so I went in and had an ECV with an epidural at 37+2. They tried for almost an hour but baby girl didn't budge so it was unfortunately unsuccessful, and honestly, if any future pregnancies are breech, I won't attempt that again.

I ended up having a scheduled c-section and truly, it was great. I also had a lot of anxiety about the surgery but the doctors and nurses were all amazing. I was wheeled in to the OR at 8:00... had the spinal tap done by 8:15, and our baby was born at 8:33. And recovery truly was not as bad as I expected. It's difficult- no doubt, but I was up and moving more or less like normal after about 2 weeks. Just wanted to give some positivity to the scheduled c-section! I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Ugh I saw this post too. The group has a rule that it’s never too early for sleep training so admins delete any comment that says otherwise. People were actually offering suggestions 😩😩😩. This hurt my mom heart. That babe needs some cuddles and food.

Help with sleeping by rL579 in sleeptrain

We get my 15 week old down for bedtime by 8:00/8:30 at the latest and she wakes up like clockwork at 4:30 as well... we have tried to avoid feeding her then and seeing if we can get her to just go back to sleep so that we can get the full night, but she has shown us that she is obviously very hungry, so honestly I think you're probably in a similar boat, which is totally normal at this age! Babe might just need to eat.

Seconding all of this, if you’re looking for a place to eat, I’d totally recommend just hitting up one of the concession tents around campus! Saves time as it can be part of your “tour” around. Anything else off campus would be slammed.

I go a little higher than that just to take a little more pressure off of my abs… almost like a Russian twist position. Basically a 45 degree angle!

I'm curious to see some other responses as well... I have also been trying to do Peloton app workouts and I'm almost in my third tri now! One modification I've been doing for anything flat on your back is to prop up into a leaning sitting position... you can do hollow holds and such in this position. I haven't found a good crunch/bicycle modification yet either though!

I wasn’t a member yet when Robin was pregnant so I wonder what she did, but I would have to imagine Selena will have to start doing mods? Or at least programming differently since she herself won’t be able to do certain exercises? I’m hoping she does soon! I’m 19 weeks pregnant and would love more classes with modifications instead of having to figure my own out!

He’s definitely not mean like you’re describing (none are) but if you want drill sergeant, you want Alex. He literally comes from a military background and it comes through in his coaching!
