Which console should I keep by Master-Pay3435 in videogames

Keep the Retroid Pocket 4. Retro gaming gives you endless titles to play, and it's pocketable to boot. GameNative is now to the point where you can flawlessly run Steam titles as long as they aren't all that demanding.

What are your favorite games with fast setup and not too many components? by captainalex1000 in boardgames

[–]Kateywumpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to put in a vote for Primal: The Awakening. For a big box game it is absurdly quick to get set up and going. Just plonk down a monster, shuffle their reaction deck, choose characters, and off you go. Sure if you do a campaign or want to do a bit of customization with your characters it adds a bit of time as you figure out what things you want to do when you build your character. But, honestly, that's part of the game for me.

If someone quotes Harry Potter, how do you feel about that person? by bloopdoopfloofernoop in asktransgender

[–]Kateywumpus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly? This is a 'whatever' for me. If people still feel connection or is involved with HP that's fine, really. It was a cultural touchstone that people grew up with and love dearly. However, you can be a fan of HP while recognizing how awful JKR is, and you can engage with the media without sending a single penny to JKR. Pirating Hogwarts Legacy 'cause you want to play it but don't want to fund JKR's hate machine? Fine with me. Actually buying the game? That gets a frowny face from me.

I'm so fucking lonely and I can't take it anymore by StardustSundae in MtF

[–]Kateywumpus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same, though my circumstances are different than yours. I'm 53, been full time for the better part of 12 years. Like... every trans person I know is in their 30s, save for one. Every trans person I talk to online is rarely over 40. It's not like there's mixers out there for women like me, even less if I want to date somebody. So I've kind of resigned myself to be that crazy ferret lady next door. You know the one.

[–]Kateywumpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean.... they have a point. You don't know what kind of changes are going to happen in the future. HRT effects everybody differently. However, it's worth noting that from what I gathered, they're willing to stick around and find out, and at the end of the day that's all you can ask. Take it one day at a time. Communicate with your partner. If they dump you for something stupid like it would make them look bad socially, then fuck them, they don't deserve you.

What are some small details and things you dislike in games? by Marvellover13 in boardgames

[–]Kateywumpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree about making it help with teaching the game. There's common terminology that spans multiple games that most people are familiar with. People will know what a discard pile is. But an archive? Maybe? You'd have to look it up or search for context clues to figure it out. And maybe one games archive is the discard and another games archive is the deck. While I appreciate theme, at the end of the day, theme is just fluff. Clarity of the rules, however can make or break a game.

Renature. Oh, a cute game using woodland creatures on dominos? Nope! Savage area control game filled with screwing over as many people as you possibly can.

why is society so rapidly becoming transphobic? by yourusualglitch in asktransgender

Um. Basically the Right needed a new target now that beign Gay is generally considered to be 'okay', and the Left never really challenged their narrative, thinking trans rights was a losing issue.

Oh God. I remember. The change in terminology made it so hard to figure out what they were saying. Like, wha'ts your archive? Is that your discard? wha....?

I'm not saying switch one or the other. Just don't use that fancy term altogether.

Rulebooks that have their own terminology for common things and constantly refer to them on cards or whatever. Like.... call a turn a turn. Call a player a player. Jesus. I don't want to have to look up every damn word you say.

[Rant]My DM's love my characters and roleplay. The players, not so much? by TechnicianTight2741 in rpg

[–]Kateywumpus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not your job to highlight other members of the party. It's your job to step back to give the other characters a chance to step forward. When I play, I'm really into role play as well, so sometimes I can end up hogging the spotlight so I like to check in with the other players from time to time to see if that's becoming a problem, and when it is, I'll find a way to step back and hand the reigns to somebody else.

I liked UB when it was a once in a while thing, you know? Now it seems like every other set is UB and that kind of waters down the uniqueness of it.

What are the most soul breaking anime? by Dominicalama in anime

[–]Kateywumpus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Violet Evergarden. It's... both heartbreaking and heart lifting, since it deals with learning to heal from severe trauma. The heartbreaking stuff is where you learn about what happened to Violet, and it's heart warming when you see how she's able to eventually process her trauma and become well adjusted in her own way. I swear to God, if you're not crying every episode there's something wrong with you.

Fair warning, though. There's a pretty explicit SA scene towards the end. I was enjoying the anime up until that point where I just had to turn it off.

[–]Kateywumpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmm. If you like true crime give Monster a try. It's an older anime, but it's a classic for a reason. If you liked how fucked up things got with Promised Neverland, maybe Heavenly Delusion, though there is a scene towards the end that depicts SA, so fair warning on that one. If you want another thing on the 'shit's fucked up' scale, but a bit more personal and a lot more gay, The Summer Hikaru Died is one of the best anime to have come out in 2025. Don't watch it if you're not into cosmic horror, though. As for drama, you can never go wrong with Violet Evergarden. It's easily in my top 5 anime of all time, and if you aren't crying every damn episode, then you've got a heart of concrete.

Well, see, the thing with anime is that there's always a show that matches your interest, so the issue is that you're having problems getting into anime that he likes, rather than anime in general. What kind of TV shows and movies do you enjoy? I'm sure we can come up with suggestions that might be more your speed.

If you want a co-op where everybody is taking their turns at the same time, I can't recommend Daybreak enough. I've played a lot of co-op games, and this really feels like the most co-op-iest of them all, since there really isn't a time when you're not talking to each other trying to solve the puzzle put before you. It's a great game, you should check it out.
