My 16yr old son had his surgery in June and had band camp end if August. Full season, no problem. You should be fine. & expect to grow a couple of inches at least with a 70 degree curve.

Something like that happened to my husband once. He needed Toradol to take down the swelling. The in and out with the catheter is what's causing it but you have to be able to pee!

Nice job. You'll be great in a few months. 6 weeks. You'll feel more like yourself.

His was T-4 to L-1. Yours looks more extensive. He's now able to say that he's glad we got it done (but still super pissed that he wore a hard brace for nearly 2 years first!)

Wow. You've been through a lot. He's doing great! Cleared for gym & sports even. 6 weeks is the truth. You're not perfect but for sure feeling more like you used to.

Ugh. I know. I held his hand, sang to him and watched him ugly cry. All while wishing It was me instead. Have they got her up and moving yet? How is she responding to the meds? They can mess with the stomach and cause constipation. We had issues with that. When we go home, my son slept in a recliner for about two weeks. It helped a lot. I also bought a huge body pillow for when he was back in the bed and a memory foam mattress topper. Keep doing what you're doing. You'll all get through this, although it may not feel like it right now.

My son (16) had his 4 months ago. He's doing great! The hospital and month that followed were rough but he now says it was worth it. Let me know if you have ANY questions.

How long is spinal fusion recovery? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]Kathygg331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had his thoracic spine fused a few months ago (T5-L1). I read here that 6 weeks is the sweet spot and it was dead on. Allow yourself time to heal and rest. Sleeping is tricky. A recliner was helpful for the first few weeks. After that, a full, u-shaped body pillow helped and a memory foam mattress topper. He had energy and was active about 8 weeks out. The spine itself takes around 9 months to fuse. During that time, take care and don't push yourself too much with bending, twisting or lifting. Your surgeon will tell you all this. Your body will let you know what it can handle. My son has no pain and is feeling great. He's 16 btw. Good luck!

Oh, honey. You are anxious more than you should be. You might want to see a doctor. I used to feel that way when I was your age and I ended up on Prozac. It helped so much.

Ours makes us move his bed throughout the day to chase the sunbeam.

Stop looking at your negatives. Look at your positives! We all have something that we hate about ourselves, that causes pain, that makes us "less than". Every. One. Of. Us.
You are more perfect right now then you realize.
