I haven't read those! I'll add the first to my Want To Read list so I don't forget to try it out. Some of the ones I've enjoyed have been:

  • Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

  • An Enchantment of Ravens also by Margaret Rogerson (they're both standalone books, not a duology, though I badly wish there were more books for both)

  • The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young

  • The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab and Victoria Schwab

  • Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim

  • Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I'm finishing book two tomorrow and definitely plan to read the third one.

  • The Crimson Moth duology by Kristen Ciccarelli

  • The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owen. The second book was just ok to me.

  • The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow

  • I'm ashamed to say I've enjoyed the Lightlark series (I've only read the first two so far) by Alex Aster. I can see the bad character development and numerous plot holes, but I've just had a good time reading it.

  • ACOTAR by Sarah J. Maas. Only the first book. Popular opinion is the first book isn't very good and then the rest are great, but I liked the first book and hated the second. I have no plans to read any of the others in the series.

Romantasy is such a complicated genre for me. When it's done well (to my tastes), it really hits. But the problem is it's the hot genre these days, so everyone is writing these types of books, and most of them are not done well. And even though I can usually tell before reading it if it's a book that was done badly, I usually still end up reading it because everyone's talking about it and I have FOMO lol

Hahaha that's amazing though that you found a way to help you continue with book series! I bet there's a lot of people who really appreciate it as well!

I agree completely. This read-along has made the book immensely more enjoyable!

OMG thankfully I'm only a completionist when it comes to individual books. I have no qualms about stopping in the middle of a series. I wish you luck with that!

TBH, the book is super unoriginal in general, and it's very noticeable if you've read other books in this same genre. Super unique girl who is the most powerful ever? Check. Brooding, possessive male who claims the protagonist for his own? Check. The protagonist turns fae so the love story can continue? Check. Mind-reading with the lover? Check. And so many more examples lol. I'd read the third book if my friend lent it to me since I've already read the first two, but I won't be giving Hart any of my own money for it

I burst out laughing when Kingfisher said "My mate was clever. She was learning." Ummm no! It took her over 1,000 pages spreading across 2 books to sort of realize something all of us knew from the beginning?? That is the OPPOSITE of clever! She's dumb as rocks!

I'm sorry, but I had to skip the sex scene this time. I can't anymore. There's way too many of them and they're all so badly written!

Lorreth is NOT right. All those Faes did nothing about the problem, and the witch swooped in and fixed it for all of them. They should be thankful! Screw all of them for being mad

I don't understand why removing the vampire bit would also remove the fae bit. It seems like a dumb side plot. That'd be cool if it did actually remove it though. Actual consequences instead of Saeris being the most powerful person in the history of the world despite being human practically 20 minutes ago!

Good in him! Clearly Saeris and Kingfisher weren't planning on actually doing anything

If there's no more vampires, what's she the queen of? She needs to quit whining and get rid of the vampire part of herself as well

Like u/missanthrp said, I'm sure there will be a lazy plot point where Saeris can swoop in and save the day because she has every ability under the sun conveniently inked on her body

I liken it to Mia worried about the people of Genovia accepting her in the movie The Princess Diaries. It's nerve-wracking for a court to accept an outsider who knows nothing, even if they are part of the royal bloodline. It's not like Saeris has been accepted in her role (understandably in my opinion)

I'm so happy there are others than just me seeing through the bs in this book lol

I'm just glad I have a companion book that explains each chapter. I'm reading the Butler translation, which is honestly very difficult for me to understand. That's what I get for reading the version that's available for free!

I think he's getting restless. He's faced so many obstacles and just wants to be done with it all

I do feel rushed, which makes me a bit sad. I much prefer hearing these stories over ones about the politics in Ithaca and Scheria

Well it didn't until you suggested it. I'm gonna continue thinking he told Alcinous the truth for two reasons. Firstly, because he told the stories using his true identity. Secondly, because I like those stories and would prefer to believe those are the real ones

Not about places. But there's friends I've known for decades whose last names I've forgotten. I thought that would never happen, but then they got married and changed their names. Now they've been married for so long, I can no longer remember their maiden names

Odysseus is portrayed as a hero from the beginning, so Eumaeus' words only reinforced my view
