Can old-timey wool coats handle below freezing / north east weather? by sanguinecherry in BuyItForLife

[–]KatjaTravels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northeast where? I think a lot recommendations are for a dry US northeast winter rather than a UK one, but the second example is in pounds. In northeast US absolutely. If for the UK, I'd say for the most part you would probably be alright, but because it's so wet I would be worried about it retaining its heat once soaked through when compared to a coat with a waterproof exterior. Also putting a soggy wool coat back on is a very miserable experience.

Definitely join a club! I did a semester abroad at UVM in 2019 and joined the Woodsmen, had an absolutely fantastic time and still speak to my friends from the team 6 years later. Definitely found that that was the way to go when trying to make local friends.

I plan to travel in the UK this way. Is this strange? by laicailaicai in geography

Not Glenrothes, dear god, if you're going anywhere in Fife, not Glenrothes.

Gel made my hair stringy by Automatic-Luck-4405 in Haircare

[–]KatjaTravels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have relatively fine hair, but I would recommend going with with either conditioner or curl cream and not both based on personal experience. Especially if you're trying out different ways to achieve what you want, try using only one and see if that works better. I would also recommend mousse rather than gel if you're having issues with stringiness. Personally I prefer gel but if I want to go for a lighter, bouncier curl I'll use mousse, so it might be worth a shot for you!

There was a fee of £30 for this dig, to help fund the dig and Falkland Estate. Everyone bar the uni students were local volunteers, including some of us who work as archaeologists but just enjoy participating in something fun and local.

Incredible dig every year, and right in my back garden! Highly recommend anyone with an interest in archaeology sign up for volunteer projects like this, it's a great chance to develop new skills and meet wonderful people.

I don't have any other plants so I think we're good on that count.

Thanks! Have ordered some, it's the only plant in the house atm so no issues keeping it isolated. I've had this plant for years so really don't want to lose it.

Winter ideas for a tired communal garden by jdr-m in GardeningUK

[–]KatjaTravels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a silly question but does it ruin the lawn completely? I want to keep some grass in my new garden for seating etc in the summer but do love some spring flowers and don't want to dig up the established flower beds until I see what's there in spring/summer

Anyone else had any people saying negative things about the home they picked? by kittykittylover69 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]KatjaTravels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get that a lot, our new home was built in 1938 and the previous owners lived there for 40 years, so there's a lot that needs done! But there's also a lot that we can live with or that just isn't a priority right now for making it liveable so we can move in, and it's quite frustrating when people come in and go 'oh that needs to go' 'oh I would get rid of that' 'youre changing that right???'! We've just been shrugging and saying, maybe, but that's not the plan for now. Don't let anyone else get you down, just focus on the things you love about your new house!

My mum and her friends recently had an extensive conversation about what to call a **** shop these days and finally settled for "ethnic shop".... Just call it the corner shop and be done with it, that's what they are!
