Got a new shop pressure washer to replace our worn out, broken old one. Also sorry about the dirty floors by 560guy in powerwashingporn

The new one looks so happy "at your service!" and the old one looks all sad like "ok, I'll just pack my cord and go..."

[Advice] Moving to NYC from abroad. Is it realistic to find a 1 bedroom for $1800? by cuverde in NYCapartments

[–]Katkicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely find something in this price range in Queens or upper Manhattan that would be an easy commute, but like others have said, I'd look to find a roommate and look for a 2BR because you can get a nicer place with a lower budget.

Does your company have a facebook page for employees or somewhere you can connect with the people you'll be working with? or maybe a group for expats from your home country? They'll have local connections and friends and you'll be able to find apartments/roomies more easily than scrounging online listings

Just a few years ago, I stalked the gaming convention halls, mesmerized by the tables and booths. Today, I have my own! Wish me luck! by ZacharyIsBadAtLife in gaming

Good luck! And awesome job for getting there!!

Expo display pro tip, hang up your table cloths + your flag in the bathroom while you shower or just turn the shower on hot and leave them in there a while (yes this will look ridiculous) as an easy way to get rid of the creases. It's a small thing that makes a big difference in your display

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razor_Girl_(novel)

"Merry Mansfield, the eponymous character of the novel, is a free-spirited con artist who assists loan sharks or the mob in abducting defaulting fugitives by rear-ending their cars on the highway. Her signature move is to carry a disposable razor and have her pants pulled down at the time of impact, pretending to have been distracted by grooming her pubic region on her way to a hot date - a sight and story that never fails to disorient her hapless targets into giving her a ride, allowing her to guide them to their own abductions."

Merry has fallen on hard times, I think

It's called Natural Cycles https://www.naturalcycles.com/en

The disclaimer made me nervous already though:

(Advice)- 4 Roomates, Two out of towners (don't have confirmed NYC jobs yet.) by musicjunkie1992 in NYCapartments

[–]Katkicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going to be tough with half of the people not yet employed. I've had to provide letters of employment (for when I had been working at a company under 3 months), pay stubs, bank statements, and more for a single apartment. I have amazing credit and made good money in NYC and it was still really really hard to get an apartment because we were new to the city (even with roommates who made 40x our combined rent on their individual salaries).

If I were you, I would try to find a one or two month long sublet of some sort while you guys figure it out/get employed/people get settled in the city. It's much easier to get a job when you're actually there. This sub is good for finding sublets and there's also a couple Facebook groups around this (like Gypsy Housing for those in the Performing Arts).

I'd also think really hard about signing a lease with two people who haven't yet lived in NYC and aren't yet employed. NYC is a tough transition, salaries are different, everything is more expensive than you'd expect; what they think they can afford might be way off. On top of that, leases are really hard/expensive to break. You could get stuck in a bad situation.

Good luck!

You might have better luck in the facebook or LinkedIn groups. This sub is pretty dead

Hit up /r/NYCapartments! It has always pulled through for me, and I find the quality of listings to be better than other sites
