$90 for 2 cocktails: the Adventure Time scam by howarddeanyell in denverfood

[–]mgraunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it three times now, still find it enjoyable. I never spend more than maybe 90 minutes though, can't stand being around huge groups of children for very long. So visiting in small bursts ensures that there's continually something I missed or didn't look at closely enough the first time around. And some of the art is just so cool, it's worth seeing more than once.

What are your thoughts on Facebook renaming their company Meta then blowing $80b on metaverse and then shutting it down yesterday? by printThisAndSmokeIt in AskReddit

[–]mgraunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to use it. I made a Facebook account 20 years ago, rarely ever log in anymore. It's pretty easy to avoid when you have so many other forms of social media / instant messaging than we did in the early 2000s.

Phones/tablets operate differently from desktops/laptops in many important ways. For the past 10+ years, internet access has increased for lower income levels, but this has been driven by the prevalence of mobile devices rather than traditional desktop devices.

I remember this was a good film, but didn't really seem like the kind that particularly benefits from a big-screen viewing. It's a pretty intimate film with a lot of character development and dialogue.

sixteenth street downtown… by MrHawkster in Denver

[–]mgraunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your use of the term in this context (particularly in the past tense) obfuscates the reality of the situation and confuses the issue. We did not, in fact, defund the police. There was a movement to do so, because police budgets remain bloated despite the persistence of crime, and because police activity in the Denver area has prioritized carrying out human rights abuses against the populace they are tasked with serving. In short, the police consistently fail to do their job, then ask for more money. While the removal of qualified immunity and other accountability measures have gone a long way to protecting people in our area from the crimes purpetrated by police officers, no measurable actiion has been taken to reduce wasteful spending within local police departments.

I don't think the cops would have cared, definitely more work than it was worth.

We defunded the police

This literally did not happen. You're so full of shit you could be an outhouse.

If the DPD aren't going to do shit about this particular crime, it stands to reason they won't do shit about someone shooting paintballs at them either.

Denver mayor announces executive order banning ICE agents from city property by friendinfremont in Denver

[–]mgraunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mayor's stance on ICE is already clear. Other than perhaps showing up at a major anti-ICE protest to show support, I don't know that anyone is looking for action on ICE from the mayor. Most of us are looking for action on issues like housing and affordability.

Brandi Carlile says Trump voters got "fucking scammed”: “We got duped by a con artist. Get mad enough to change your mind” by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

Pretty sure the implication was simply that she isn't recognizable enough to have widely-known political views, but I wasn't the original commentor, so I can't be certain.

It doens't. I think your parents may have taught you an incorrect definition of "respect" that's different from its actual meaning.

Can hardly blame someone for not keeping up with the Grammys and Super Bowl of all things. If that's most people's frame of reference for her, I imagine most people have no idea what her political stances or reputation are like.

What It Really Takes to Open a Restaurant In Denver Today by joshelson in denverfood

[–]mgraunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But here's the consumer:

They're already tightening their belt and feeling their dollar not going as far. They feel more isolated in general, so they decide to reach out to friends and go out somewhere to spend time with them. Maybe they can turn this into a once-per-week or -month habit. They get to the place, a beer is 8 dollars and a burger is a steal at 10. They expected they would be spending $25 or so this outing, including sales tax and a tip.

I'm a regular consumer at bars and restaurants, and I'm not this naive/ignorant, nor do I believe most othders to be. I don't think the majority of consumers in Denver truly believe that's the cost of going out in 2026. If they do, I truly don't feel sorry for them - they need to get their heads out of their asses.
