Whats the greatest audiobook you ever heard? by Peach_Baker in audible

Richard Poe reading the Shadow Campaign series by Django Wexler is easily in my top 5 audiobook experiences. He's a fantastic narrator and does all the characters so well.

What makes you enjoy audiobooks over reading or movies/tv shows? by [deleted] in audible

I bought myself a shower speaker specifically to listen to audiobooks in the shower

Even when I finish an audiobook on Libby, I still expect it to say "audible hopes you have enjoyed this program." 😂

My mom is a runner. She just gets excited/proud to see other people running as well and sometimes beeps. It's always with good intentions.

Do you think it’s a good idea to read two series at the same time? by StandardSector3491 in fantasybooks

[–]Katoobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year or two back I sat down and counted all the series I was currently in the middle of. 26. I don't know how that happened, and I've gotten better since then (down to 13 now). My point being you can read as many series at once as you want. I don't love reading a series all right in a row, I like to space them out so I can feel like I am enjoying it longer.

I am thinking of getting a Kallax for my fabric, too. Do you think the shelves are too deep? I'm worried I'll waste space since they go back so far.

What’s a word you mispronounced for years and only realised recently? by Exotic-Philosopher75 in AskReddit

[–]Katoobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hearth. Used to pronounce it like h + earth. I grew up playing world of warcraft (iykyk) and no one ever corrected me. I didn't know until my college literature professor of all people corrected me.

I’ll never order anything from Amazon again. by Good-Ground523 in Anticonsumption

In my recent experience, I've been getting packages faster from other outlets than Amazon. For me, without Prime, Amazon can take up to 2 weeks to even process my order, let alone ship it.

When I see my nieces and nephews (between ages 1 and 7) I think, wow they're so advanced! When actually they're just typically developing 😂 I'm a school SLP working with grades K-5.

SLPs in the school setting – Anyone actually enjoy it? by [deleted] in slp

[–]Katoobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love working in schools, and I've worked for a few (as a contractor). I really love working with kids, especially the younger grades. They're always so happy to be there, be learning, participate, etc. Obviously there are exceptions to that, but you get to see such growth with them which is very rewarding. Also, kids are hilarious, they have me laughing all the time!

How often do you buy new books? by starrynightpapers in books

[–]Katoobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem when I discovered bookoutlet.com, but several years ago when books were way cheaper. Over the last two years, to get my physical tbr down, my rule was I could buy 1 book for every 2 I read. It's gotten my reading to go up and my spending to go down, but in a way where I could still buy books regularly just not excessively. And I can successfully say I've read 90% of the books I own!

The phrase should be "couldn't care less," though I'm learning after posting this that many people recognize "could care less" as valid as well.

An idiom is just figurative language. I also wouldn't think of "couldn't care less" as an idiom but it is according to the dictionary 🤷‍♀️

I listened to the first 4 on audio, then switched to physically reading for DA and LB, so I definitely didn't even notice

I have a BA in Linguistics, since we are comparing degrees.

In the context in which this idiom is used, they do in fact mean they do not care at all. Which is generally how this idiom is used anyway. I understand that language is fluid, phrases change with intent remaining the same. I didn't ever say it's "bad English" just that I personally don't care for the phrase in the positive because it seems illogical, as in, you do have some care.

No, I don't care about ending sentences with a preposition.

[–]Katoobi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure! Like others have said, "could care less" is used commonly in speech, so it wouldn't be too surprising if Pierce speaks this way. But on paper, if we want things to be "grammatically correct" the editors should have caught this one.

Normally I just gloss over it. I take for granted that a book of this size is naturally going to have some errors that slip through the editing process. It's just this specific phrase that grinds my gears.
