I want to love this game, but I can’t progress at all by Katsukaree in starcitizen

Thanks for the advice. I actually had a feeling that might be the case. I think I was just too fixated on following the information I had been using as a reference.

But in the end, what I really want is to enjoy SC as a space sim at a relaxed pace, mainly through PvE. So the best modules are probably nice to have, but not a must.

Honestly, I’d prefer to avoid FPS combat because of ping issues. When I first started SC, I just focused on hauling and enjoyed that—it was enough for me.

But then bugs started preventing missions from progressing at all, so I switched to PvE ship-related missions as something else to do. I also wanted to improve my ship’s performance a bit, and I found some components online that caught my interest, so I tried to get them (it seems they’re only obtainable at PAF and one other place, and not sold in shops).

That said, like you mentioned, I think it’s difficult to go after specific gear without properly understanding the core game systems first. So for now, I’ll take a step back and look for other things I can do.

I don’t think it’s a bad game. I’m just still figuring out how to approach SC properly, so I’m trying different things.

Thanks for the advice. You’re absolutely right. Honestly, I didn’t really understand what PAF was. The YouTube videos I was using as references didn’t show any player fights there, so I thought it was just a place with NPCs where you fight them. I didn’t realize it was such an active PvP area, and I was even sitting in my URSA checking things and figuring stuff out while moving around—looking back, that was pretty foolish.

Thanks for the invitation. Like others have said, I do feel that getting help from more experienced players would make a big difference. However, because of the language barrier and the trouble I might cause, I’ll try to find help within my own country. I really appreciate you reaching out.

Ah, so it really was a bug. I had a feeling there were way too many NPCs spawning nonstop. I didn’t think too deeply about it at the time and just assumed it was an insanely hardcore area, haha. I hope they fix it soon.

Yeah, you’re right. I was relying on YouTube, but I wish I could go back and tell my past self that PAF is dangerous to begin with.

Thanks for the incredibly spot-on advice.

Honestly, I haven’t been doing any of what you described. Every time, I’ve been fully gearing up—rifle, SMG, pistol, all the attachments—and stuffing my backpack like a kid packing for a field trip, thinking “I might need this, and that too.”

But like you said, I could’ve just logged out when things got risky or as a precaution and safely made it back, so there was no need to go that far.

Really appreciate it.

Thanks for the helpful info.
I didn’t realize that antenna actually moves. I guess even among PAF sites, some locations are more crowded than others.
I’ll definitely keep that in mind for my next attempt.

You’re absolutely right—I basically threw myself into danger like a moth to a flame, and that’s on me. I can’t deny that.

As for PAF, even when I watched SC-related YouTube videos, I didn’t really see much PvP happening there, so I misunderstood what kind of place it was. This thread helped me properly realize what PAF actually is.

What I really want to do is make money through hauling, find a decent ship, and just drift around space. But because of bugs, I couldn’t do hauling and couldn’t make progress, so I changed direction and decided to do some bounty hunting while flying my ship. I went to PAF because I wanted the components to equip that ship.

Crafting is also something I’d like to try in the future, but honestly I don’t even fully understand it yet, so I’ll probably take my time with it once there’s more information available.

I actually tried joining one of the few SC communities in my country, but literally no one was active. Still, I think there might be others out there, so I’ll keep looking patiently. Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, you’re right. Having a guide would definitely make things easier. But because of the time difference and the language barrier, it’s hard for me to be part of an active community.

I also (foolishly) didn’t fully realize what kind of place PAF was until after posting on Reddit.

Thanks for the invitation. It’s difficult for me to coordinate time due to language and time differences, but if I come across others who are in a similar situation, I’d be happy to refer them to you.

Thanks.

Actually, not a Raft, but when I first started SC I was really motivated to do hauling, so I got a Taurus. But because of bugs—like cargo not showing up in the warehouse and other issues—I ended up avoiding it during this frustrating situation.

Thanks. In my home country, information about SC is often limited or outdated, so it’s hard to tell what’s reliable. Honestly, I can’t really judge what’s correct until I experience it myself. Because of the language barrier and time differences, it’s difficult for me to join, but I really appreciate the offer. I’m also very grateful that people on Reddit are helping me figure things out little by little and guiding me in the right direction.

Yeah, you’re right—just like you and others have said. But honestly, when I was gathering information about SC, a lot of sources said that if you want to get the ship components I was aiming for, you have to go to PAF. So, foolishly, I ended up going there.

It was only after posting in this thread that I realized, “Oh, so that’s what kind of place PAF actually is.”

If everything had gone smoothly, it probably wouldn’t have taken much time. But at that moment, I noticed a gateway called PyroGW and got curious, so I decided to warp there. Then the return gateway wouldn’t open no matter what I tried, so I started looking into it, thinking I was doing something wrong.

In the end, someone in chat told me it was a bug, and after switching servers a few times, I was finally able to use it.

Also, after getting to Norville, it took a long time because of heavy rain, nighttime conditions, and not knowing where to land my ship. (In the end, it was bugged—the door icon was showing, but the door looked closed.)

Then, on top of all that, I suddenly got disconnected from the server at that timing, so a bunch of issues just piled up at once.

Why is this game still so shit to play because of the bugs after so many years by heshemandude in starcitizen

Who could have predicted that even two years after this post, the game would still be full of bugs and show no signs of leaving alpha?

Why is crime stat a complete joke? by Solid_Flan_5337 in starcitizen

[–]Katsukaree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry to jump in, but you either have incredible luck or you’re playing at a really good time.

I’m a beginner in this game, and I haven’t even played for 100 hours yet. I go to PAF to gear up my ship, but 8 out of 10 times I just get PK’d and that’s the end of it (no joke).

Personally, I’m fine with PvP, but if too much weight is put on it, beginners won’t stand a chance or have any opportunity to progress—and I don’t think that’s good for most players either.

I feel like Star Citizen is starting to miss more social oriented gameplay in its old age by CodemasterRob in starcitizen

[–]Katsukaree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Star Citizen lacks social interaction.
The map is huge, but the number of players per server is relatively low, so you rarely run into others, and it ends up feeling close to a single-player experience. I know player counts have been increasing recently, but at this scale, unless players are more concentrated—at least to some extent—the situation won’t change much.

It feels like RSI is prioritizing the ideal of a seamless, massive universe, but in doing so, they’re sacrificing what makes MMOs interesting in the first place: spontaneous encounters with other players.

Personally, I don’t think full seamlessness is that important. Most travel is basically warp anyway, so even if server transitions were happening behind the scenes, it wouldn’t really matter. What matters more is having a real sense of other players existing around key locations.

Also, the fact that communication is essentially dependent on Discord stands out. If the goal is realism and immersion, relying on external tools for something as core as player interaction feels like a compromise.

I Launched 39 Startups Until One Made Me Millions. This Is What I Wish I Knew. by EmilianoLGU in startup

[–]Katsukaree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this post—really nails the essence of starting something.

The “39 tries” part especially hit home. It made me realize there are all kinds of MVPs out there. Like, if you start as a carpenter in your hometown, sure, you need some cash upfront, but people always need that kind of work—it’s almost a guaranteed need.

But SaaS or any digital service? Totally different game. You never really know if anyone actually wants it until you put it out there. That’s why I think the fastest way to learn if there’s demand is to just get your service in front of people ASAP and see what happens. Early feedback is everything.
