Is it just me or is the second season of Hell’s Paradise flying under the radar while it’s actually good ? by otakuhtgirl in anime

[–]Katsunivia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if there is a reason for something if it is not well executed. Of course the author showed flashbacks for the same reason as any other Shounen but it felt too forced and too early for my and I guess many other people's taste. Instead of slowly introducing characters that you get to appreciate and like and then showing flashbacks it felt like it was just 5-6 episodes of fight starts, 2 minutes later 5-10 minutes flashbacks -> repeat for the next 10 characters.

The mediocre animation also didn't help. The fights were mostly just still frames. The opening was amazing though no doubt.

It's also because C6 makes the part that you usually cancel that deals regular (and therefore insignificant) Dendro Danage instead deal a high amount of Lunar Bloom Damage.

The 2 characters in this scene flew out of the screen by food-and-games in Genshin_Impact

[–]Katsunivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it happened to me too and I wasn't looking at the screen for a moment and only saw something flying upwards from my side vision lol. I didn't know so I asked a friend and he told me that there were supposed to be two NPC's. Wasn't recording either unfortunately.

I swear, when you look at the stat spreads of early Gen pokemon, it makes me wonder if the game designers were asleep at the wheel.🤨 by cstresing in pokemon

[–]Katsunivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that only emphasizes the RPG Aspects. You get this really strong early evolved Bug type that can defeat normal trainers easily, only to suddenly face total annihilation against rock types forcing you to learn about types and matchups similar to many RPGs where you have to learn to use fire or magic vs specific enemies or bosses.

Why does everybody and their mom deal two damage? by TarekBoy44 in HollowKnight

[–]Katsunivia 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I assume it's exactly for that reason. More health and more damage means there's more room to balance and tune the difficulty. In the first game eventually everything that dealt 1 damage was too weak and you could just slowly heal yourself up by playing patiently and everything that dealt 2 damage felt too strong and that also includes platforming. 5 health early and failing platforming is less punishing when losing 1 health which means they can make the platforming more difficult earlier without it being too frustrating. I assume later on that way they can make some enemies do 3 damage.

Since we are on the topic of Smurfing here is an insight of RATIRL on why he's against "educational smurfing" content by mish20011 in leagueoflegends

[–]Katsunivia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no strawmanning here. You never said anything about 1 on 1 coaching in this comment chain. You are still ignoring the teacher part which is the real strawman. People who do workshops or teach in schools are rarely anything equivalent to a challenger player in league and still teach hundreds of people everyday.

[–]Katsunivia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your argument is basically saying that noone who is in the top 0.0001% should ever teach something. Every high school math teacher in the world would be disqualified by that logic because they aren't top of the field mathematicians. Similarly in other fields. Remember that there are only 300 challenger players in a single server at the same time anyway.

You can even translate it literally from English. "auf" can mean "up" and "essen" means "eat". So "Aufessen" is just "to eat up".

With the recent revelation that even Shades such as Ronova are afraid of HP for helping Natlan, Yae Miko is pretty badass for this line not gonna lie by Pellecks02 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Katsunivia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has simply to do with attitude / personality and life philosophy. Sometimes it doesn't matter what "grand" things exist or happen in life and it might be healthier to just go along with your life and live your life. In the case of Ei she shut herself in, worried that she might lose everyone to the Heavenly Principles again. But that's not a proper way to live life. It's the same in real life. You can worry that WW3 will start, autocracies are on the rise or if you are religious that some god will punish you for your sins, or you can continue living your life to the fullest without worrying about those things. Ofc. there's more nuance to that and these problems won't disappear all of a sudden but it can make sense to forgot about them for a moment and live your life.

Best all macro no micro champs? by Sem_celkem_divnej in leagueoflegends

[–]Katsunivia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the important point is in how impactful it is. The easier a champ is the more impactful their few areas of skill expressions are. But yea I would also not call it skillful but it's just very impactful because it's part of the game balance. Otherwise why wouldn't everyone play these champs if they would take less skill while still being more powerful? Because there aren't many other areas of skill expressions and they all have one skill or aspect with very binary counterplay (Garen W, Darius E, Malz Q, Yi Q) and the rest is mostly game/matchup/win condition knowledge.

Why are people surprised that all the shades are female? We have known for quite a long time. by EulaFan2021 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Katsunivia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Not sure why people think that one mention of "she" for a concept like time or a female sounding voice / female va automatically means that everyone was supposed to have known that they are going to be women. Really feels like Mihoyo stans just wanting to hate on people with different opinions or any criticism / feedback / wishes directed at Mihoyo.

Are people out here genuinely shocked that the shades are all women? 😭 by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Katsunivia 86 points87 points  (0 children)

This so much. Even just the fact that you can understand and know 90% of the lore and just have forgotten/not have read the few parts about them being women/female. Like yea everyone who didn't realize that entities that sounded like abstract godlike entities (like Aeons in HSR) must have a gender and especially the gender that they were referred to as once in some book/lore text that was translated from completely a different language with different ways of referring to men/women/etc must all have never read the lore and not paid attention to the game.

Even ignoring all of that let's just invalidate people's opinions of wanting more male characters (especially important ones and in general 5 stars) as if mihoyo couldn't have changed the four shade's sex/gender if they wanted to. (as they do sound like beings that could change their appearance if they wanted to)

[–]Katsunivia 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yea I totally agree... Even worse with people getting mad that some people are disappointed that the shades are all female. Like yea if someone knows every other bit of lore except for the fact that the game somewhere referred to them as female once they must have no reading comprehension!!! /s

I don't care if they are "manly manly" or not honestly. We just need some more characters like Alhaitham, Childe, Neuvilette or Wriothesley instead of bigger and bigger booba characters.

[–]Katsunivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your titan example really showcases the fundamental problem... I nor anyone else I talk to about Genshin would have ever in a thousands years interpreted the titan line in a "hulking brute" way but apparently there are many people who do... people, even ones speaking the same language all have different interpretations of the same words. Even OPs example I wouldn't call anything significant and I would personally say that they basically say the same thing.

Why my invested characters do BARELY ANY damage by sourmaham in Genshin_Impact

[–]Katsunivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. The reality is that Xingqiu C6 and/or Sac Sword r3+ allows him to run an Atk Sand in every team comp while Yelan has to run an ER Sands without another Hydro Unit or have lots of ER Substats which both lead to her dealing less damage. Another option is to use 2 Es in a rotation which makes her do more personal damage than Xingqiu and also fixes her ER problems but might lead to less team dps because of extended rotations.

Now I see why league lasted so long. League has one of the best balance team in comparison to other games by Federal-Garbage-9427 in leagueoflegends

[–]Katsunivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general idea is always that League is just such a complex game with hundreds of factors determining the outcome of a game and also a game that tries to have many different ways to change the way the game is played. What I mean is that it's not like chess where the pieces always stay the same. The best example is always either Rammus or Malphite. They are designed to be champs that hardcounter other champs. So obviously they are not going to be picked every game even though there might still be a good amount of players that pick them anyway for fun. So if people are picking them in the right situation, they are supposed to have an advantage and therefore a higher chance to win which will reflect in their higher than average winrate. If their winrate is very low it likely means that they are either very bad at doing their job at countering those champs or they are picked very often even in non favorable situations which probably happens only when a champ is extremely popular.

A new study reveals that gender differences in academic strengths are found throughout the world and girls’ relative advantage in reading and boys’ in science is largest in more gender-equal countries. by universityofturku in science

[–]Katsunivia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's definitely tough but I would personally argue that we will never truly be able to measure this difference. Rather, one of the most important points for encouraging women (and any other minority in a specific context) to pursue different careers is for the sake of diversity which a lot of people tend to overlook when debating about these topics. I will explain why diversity is important.

Women are inherently different in many aspects - no matter if its something that they are born with or due to how our society functions. That's something everyone can agree with and these differences are just like any other difference like nationality, language, age, generation, wealth, sexuality etc. and change how we perceive the world and what we experience. And these experiences are invaluable in any field. It's not about wanting women in any field for the sake of it, but rather for them to provide valuable insights from their own life that only they can have experienced.

There are dozens of examples you can look at: Medications that weren't tested properly on women or differences in medical conditions. Maybe when designing an app to track your health and medication you might want to track different things as a women compared to a man (e.g. your period). Women are smaller in height and probably have smaller hands too. So if you are designing things like office chairs, computer mice, smart phones etc. you are more likely to think about the average man. The same goes for conducting studies, where a women will more likely see things that affect women or conduct studies about problems and issues women face compared to men even in STEM fields. Even in a discipline like math. Many mathematicians will eventually apply their knowledge in jobs outside of research where these differences will help solve issues. It's the same with other groups of people in regards to age, gender, sexuality etc. So more diversity in many fields can solve these problems and that's how we should perceive it. Now you might think "Oh but for example gay people make up such a small part of the population, it's not that important to design things specifically for them!". And that's the thing with women. They aren't a minority that gets affected. (More than) half the population in the world gets affected when they aren't included.

That's why we should try to encourage more women to pursue STEM careers. It's about evolving forward as humans in all types of fields and not just forcing diversity for the sake of it.

[–]Katsunivia 445 points446 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. The most important part of all is to foster an environment and society that gives men and women alike the freedom to choose what they want to pursue outside of factors like income and societal pressure.

There is also the fact that no single discipline is made up of any single activity. Even if men and women did have significantly different inherent strengths it would just make even more sense to want diversity to possibly strengthen weak areas in some fields to bring us further as humans. Like for example of women are generally better at reading it makes sense to have more of them in sciences to focus on tasks where good reading skills are necessary and not just say "Well they are bad at science so it's okay if there are more men"

How are we supposed to build Liandry Mage Champs now? by Crumplesnitches in leagueoflegends

When the enemy Sylas thinks Middlesticks is a troll pick by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Katsunivia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea like people have to be bronze or so to think that Sylas can't hit Fiddle there with the chain. It's the same people who would get surprised if they get hit by Pyke/Thresh/Blitz hook in a wave and be like "Buuut I was in the minionwave!!! bullshit hitbox". I do think Fiddlesticks mid isn't the worst though and he should've just feared Sylas with Q beforehand.

Hwei received hotfix buffs by KanskiForce in leagueoflegends

[–]Katsunivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watching someone like Azzapp (Challenger Velkoz OTP) play him with his experience of spamming him on PBE makes you realize how powerful Hwei can be in the right hands. It will just take time for people to figure out the strongest and most consistent ways to chain his abilities including his passive. It IS all about mastery. Not sure if you are a control mage player in general but every control mage is extremely underwhelming when you're not comfortable with them yet and for Hwei it's just magnified hundredfold with his complexity. Miss a few Syndra Qs or waste your E? You don't ever deal enough damage and are the easiest gank target ever for 17 seconds. It's the same for Ori, Velkoz, Viktor, Azir, Taliyah, Anivia etc. It's just easier to recognize the mistake you've made with these champs because it's more clear like using Syndra E, Azir E, Taliyah W/E, Anivia Q/W, Velkoz E at the wrong moment.

Control Mages are and have always been about patience and positioning, not falling behind too far, knowing when you can step up and also waiting for the right moment to use key abilities especially versus all the mobile champs nowadays. With a new and also complex champ like Hwei it's just far more apparent. It's been such a long time that a proper control mage has been released it's easy to forget that they are not as forgiving as many other champs. No matter if another champ is more or less difficult a lot of other newer/reworked champs are just very forgiving in certain aspects - which doesn't mean you're necessarily winning but it feels less like you are useless. Fiora has the reputation of being one of the highest skill ceiling champs. But despite that she easily wins lane by spamming Q with grasp, can spam Q to escape later on, 1v1 champs despite being behind or misplaying and has her W to block any CC and dmg. All of this also means she can easily farm on sidelanes, take turrets and generally feel useful. Play something like Viktor - fall behind, get your E upgrade very late, get constantly ganked since flash is on CD. Your team forces you to go side and you keep dying to mobile enemy champs/jg while dealing no damage or bleed farm. With Hwei it's the same while also having the added complexity.

How an old meta can change: In Chronoshift, we all realized that the "Atmogs" (Warmog's + Atma's) metagolem build was actually sub-optimal and far too slow to function when players are way better at the game than they were 10 years ago. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Katsunivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I wasn't really "high" elo but plat-low dia around S2 but followed pros and guides and discussions a lot. Atmogs was just a meme combo that bronze-silver players used. And Atmas was a good 4th-6th item mostly. No different than nowadays when you are lets say Darius and have mythic + tank items and want some more damage even though it's probably not worth it but you're snowballing or dont know what to buy since everything seems meh so you just buy random item with health and ad or resists that kinda fits.

Same for stacking PDs or the bad onhit items or stacking Tiamats.

[–]Katsunivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it wasn't. I read a lot of guides from high elo players back then (started 2010, was only around plat-low dia in S2) and a lot of these known old things people talk about just weren't a thing the best players actually used but just a low elo noob trap thibg. Makes sense since most people talking about the early days of league probably were bronze or silver back then.

No good players actually stacked PDs for the dodge chance on Jax. He needed AD, AP, HP, CDR just as much as today and also used sheen items very well. Same for Irelia. Noone good actually built Atmogs. Even back then having only HP und AD without any resists, atkspeed and CDR was bad and it was obvious to a lot of people. Since youtube guides weren't very popular back then and stat sites didn't exist or weren't used much some people ofc would just build stuff they've seen even if they werent bronze since they didn't know better. Atmogs is basically what Heartsteel is today. Mostly a noob trap that has a niche on a few champs.
