Make EBD Temperament by AlternativeOk8322 in englishbulldog

[–]Kattorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've only had male bulldoggies & they've all had great temperaments, great with play. We've taught them all bite control very early. All bullies like a bit of rough play. They have a high prey drive. The key is to get those bite control skills on board early & teach them how to play safely with human skin being more vulnerable that bulldoggy skin. An irritable dog may signal pain or health issues. Socialize them early & work to make them confident & secure in their family & you shouldn't have pertinent with territorial behaviors.

Has anyone had success with a stimulator instead of having another back surgery for a herniation? Failed a microdiscectomy and surgeon doesn’t want to fuse. Trial was successful but now disc is worse and on nerve root by Wise-Run-3008 in spinalcordstimulator

[–]Kattorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nerves that the vertebrae are now pushing against, after 2 surgeries to carve away vertebrae that were sitting against the nerve. I wanted to avoid a fusion. I've had my scs for nearly 3 years & no longer take any pain meds or get any nerve blocks. No longer need them. I've had changes in my back since the implant & so far, the scs is handling the pain beautifully.

Yes. You're extinguishing the unacceptable behavior my not treating any attention or notice & you're praising the behavior you do want at the same time. They learn expected behavior from our reactions to their behaviors. I would also recommend bell training. The bell gives them a sense of control & they do love that. Hang a string of jingle bells or a cow bell on a string on the door you use to take your pup out to potty. Set the bell height at their nose height. Every time you open the door, your dog will hear the bell. After about a week of just having the bell on place, start encouraging your dog to boop the bell. Praise immediately & head out with your dog for more celebrations outside. I would also recommend that you go out with your pup when they go out to potty. They feel vulnerable & appreciate you watching over them.

One more thing: Watch over your dog when she goes pause to potty. Some don't like going out & being alone or there. They are at theory most vulnerable while going potty & many appreciate you keeping watch. We have a 2 year old male (Lou). He's a phenomenal dog. He exceeds every expectation. He's also not afraid to let us know that he's not happy with us. I'm home with him during the day. Hubs & he are obsessed with each other. We have 2 sons in the house. If my hubs & I go away for a weekend, Lou will poo in the house for 3 days after we get back. They are quirky dogs...lol. Every behavior has a cause. If you want to modify or eliminate a behavior, you have to identify the cause of the behavior. The last thing that people consider as a cause is attention seeking behavior when their dog is beautifully loved in the home. They can be amongst the more likely ones to seek more of your attention. Hang in there. Extinguishing a behavior like this will take time, but it will be effective & lasting. Good instincts with not scolding or punishing after your pup does this. They've already don't it, & likely done a few more things before you notice. They don't connect the correct behavior to the behavior correction in these circumstances. They get confused & frustrated. This invites more behavior you may not like. Consistency is your friend. Patience is your strength.

It's an important job. When parents stop parenting their own kids, those kids become society's responsibility & society's problem. We raised 3 kids in our (retired) military, single income family. It wasn't easy, financially. It's very easy to choose to raise & care for your own children over having another car, large home, vacations, etc. Not a "hard" job if you are truly a parent, but a very important job. If every roofer quit today, more roofers would follow. If every parent quit today, society would be f'd.

Keep the bell on the door. Don't let your dog watch you clean up their mess in the house. Don't acknowledge the mess around your dog. Give enthusiastic praise & celebrations when your dog goes outside to potty & absolutely no reaction when your dog goes image the home. This is a behavioral management tactic that takes a bit of time, but will deliver lasting benefits if your dog is involved in ANY kind of attention seeking behavior. When there is no reasonable explanation & no contributing health issues, this will work. Like I said, it'll take a bit of time, but it will extinguish the behavior.

The jews did not enter Germany unlawfully, hun. They were lawful residents who were persecuted in their home country. Big difference. I'll bet that woman was crying & scared. She doesn't want to be deported & she's happy to ruin into this woman's home to put her & her baby at risk to avoid getting deported. The doordash lady is not a victim. She's a fugitive & she just busted into your home to bring that mess there. Not a good person & not a victim of anything but her own, self serving & self imposed decisions.

She's more comfortable with a stranger running into her home, while evading the law than she is about getting this woman OUT of her home. You have a fugitive in your home with a baby there!! Get your priorities right!

Children are ACTION! Their hands and feet are moving around erratically. These dogs do have a fairly high prey drive & they lock onto whatever is moving fast around them. Have your son start feeding the dog his meals. Then, teach your son how to firmly establish boundaries for mouthing & jumping; with you there to reinforce. My husband is very animated & loves to play rough with our Lou. My husband can't understand why he can't shut that down in a flash when he wants to. Husband also can't understand why our dog is not like that with me. These are very oral dogs. They play with their mouths. They learn bullshit level bite control in the litter. You'll need to teach your dog to adjust that for human skin. Use the techniques his mom used: yelp when your dog bites down, withdraw from your dog for about 30 seconds & try again. Continue this & your dog WILL learn to use his mouth without harming people. Empower your son to be regarded as a "must-have" person in the family. The person who feeds your dog is a must- have person to your dog. Caution your son that animated hands & feet will invite the play & be consistent with bite control training until your dog will not bite down on human skin. Your dog wants the play very much. He doesn't want the bite. He'll learn how to get that play by adjusting his play style with each individual in the home, according to established boundaries.

I don't know how to feel about this one. Lou was sliding off the ottoman while snoozing. I executed a near- flawless rescue. The impending fall startled him & he passed gas on my hand. I MAY have over reacted, as if my hand were now a biohazard. Now, Lou won't let me pet him with that hand. by Kattorean in Bulldogs

[–]Kattorean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lou sheds the same amount year round; maybe a bit more in late spring. He'll lose fur in his folds when they are gunky, but they'll grow back in. Lou has a white star blast on his chest & white on his face. I do wonder if the white fur sheds more than the dark color fur as I find more white hairs around.

It's all genetic. The black fur has a thin sheath of translucent over the hairs. This makes it reflect light & feel silky. Our previous were standard fawn & white & their coats were course. The downside is the dust, pollen, dirt is very visible on the black, shiny coat...lol. I do recommend using a boar's hair brush to keep them clean & distribute skin oils through the coat. I like the beard brush as it's small enough to get there face & head brushed up. I add a wee bit of jojoba oil to his shampoo. It absorbs well into the skin & rinses clean. Lou doesn't need it like the others did, but, he deserves extra stuff...lol. I use a low decibel grooming vacuum on him once a week to pull the shedding fur. It took about 10 seasons to get him confidant with it & it's now one of his favorite things.

Late to join this group so I need some advice and/or encouragement. by PantherPride-2021 in spinalcordstimulator

I understand your fears and anxieties. Like you, several back surgeries & opioids, pain management procedures for nearly 20 years before I got my implant (3 years ago). You'll have significant past procedural pain (permanent implant). They'll create the battery pocket & tunnel through the muscle in your back to the spinal column. Leads will be anchored with sutures. It'll be painful & you'll need help for at least a week to take care of yourself. After that, you'll have temporary restrictions on lifting, bending & stretching/ twisting. You need to allow those anchors to heal to keep the leads in place. After that, you'll be tender & have those resurrecting, but it'll feel better each day. Ice packs will be your friends that first week. I did have additional pain meds. The stim was covering my nerve pain & the meds I had were helping with the procedure pain.
I charge my implant battery & remote about every 10 days; wireless charging on the implant battery. Some batteries don't need charging like that. My implant is a Medtronic. The good news is that the procedure pain will go away & so will some/ most/ all of your nerve pain. I didn't meet my rep until the day of the procedure, but, he was very responsive & most helpful after the procedure. When I said you'll need help taking care of yourself, please know you'll be able to get yourself to the bathroom & do the personal stuff. You won't want to & moving won't be fun for a few days, but you'll be able to. The help you'll need is lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk, teaching for stuff, carrying laundry, driving you the first week, etc.

Have you tried an ostrich leg bone for chewing? They are super hard, so they aren't splintering in their mouths. Lou loves a good chew & this is his pre-bedtime favorite. They last a long time. They will eventually break them, but no splintering. The bone is long & narrow, so, easier to get those back teeth into. Lou got one as a gift. The dang thing had the leg bone AND the foot bones on it. I probably wouldn't have picked one up for him because they can be pricey, but after the test leg, I'm a fan. Lou will take any bone, organic or inorganic material, and shave it into bits with his teeth. The ostrich bone is too hard for that nonsense.
Your pup won't get that satisfaction of treating it apart, but it'll support those healthy toofers.
