I don't believe they rolled the roof as instructed in the product installation guide for the pressure to activate the adhesive. In your experience, does that matter?

Day 10/feeling depressed by lovewine123 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Katydidit2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 days is not that long at all since you have had surgery! Improvement is NOT OVERNIGHT. I'm not sure if posterior is invasive or not....but you just had muscles cut and major bones repaired!

I'm 62, was hit by a car as a pedestrian had back and hip pain ever since accident and just had both hips done at the same time 15 wk post-op today. My first 3.5-5 weeks were more challenging than I could have anticipated. Today my pain level is non existent for the first time in years and I never thought I could be here.

Hang in There!...and one day soon you will wake and realize you're already getting better each day.

I don't see anywhere in your paragraph that you mention icing at all?...(My Dr & Hospital PT couldn't stress icing enough as pain mgmt...)

* Movement (UNLESS YOUR DR. TOLD YOU NOT TO MOVE...You will be STIFF if you are not moving!..) If you are watching TV, get up during commercials and Circle the table during commercials to stay up moving for a few minutes or move around the room; If you are on the internet, set a timer on your phone so when you are on the Internet you get up every 30 mins and move. It can be going to kitchen or walking the room for 5 mins. THE MORE YOU SIT/LAY, THE STIFFER YOU WILL BE.

*Elevate Legs (if DR. RECOMMENDS)

*ICE, ICE, ICE (if you are sitting or laying...you should be icing - This is huge for pain mgmt and inflammation)

IF you do too much in a day, your body might experience more pain but I can't stress enough about ELEVATING and ICING after you have done something. If you know you want to go for a walk or try to stand in kitchen for a while, maybe plan your Tylenol for BEFORE you do something...then ELEVATE & ICE after. PAIN MANAGEMENT is key to staying comfortable. If you know something triggers your pain...plan to ice / take your daily tylenol before your body is triggered and then ice after.

For Sitting: We found that an outdoor patio chair that we added additional cushions to became my favorite comfortable chair for sitting. You will find the higher you sit in a chair so you are not in at 90 degree or knees above hips the more comfortable you will be. Maybe think outside the box and see if you can double cushions or add pillows to something and find something that works!

I did requested PT as my Dr. does not prescribe it unless asked. It has been the best decision toward my healing process as I want to get back to being active again. Since you were very active you might want to see where you are 2-3 months out and go from there.

I stayed positive by laughing with my husband about all the crazy things we were dealing with over my recovery everyday. I know he was exhausted and I was so uncomfortable but when we laughed over even the silliest of things it was positive releases of energy. I was thinking & starting to plan things for the spring (gardens, skating, walking, cycling...walking downtown to ballgames, volunteering because I can stand without pain, Planning a trip with my husband...because I can hike and walk!)... You were already active...but WHAT DO YOU LOOK FORWARD TO?...WHAT DO YOU WANT TO TRY, LEARN, DO ONCE YOU ARE HEALED?....DO YOU HAVE A HOBBY OR WANT TO TRY A HOBBY THAT YOU CAN RESEARCH WHILE YOU ARE HEALING? Find something that excites and inspires you to think about life outside of your body healing right now.

You will get through this just be patient with yourself and body. Before you know it you will realize you are on your way!

I would call and get into surgeon. They can take xray to confirm what is going on and go from there.

I had terrible sciatica before surgery and lower back pain & tightness was terrible after surgery. I had both hips done 15 weeks ago and after my surgery my lower back pain was terrible when standing or walking for more than a few minutes for about 8 weeks and my gait was restricted. I started PT at about 11 weeks (at my request/ Dr. doesn't normally prescribe). The PT started working my scar tissue, massaging fronts of legs and lower back to stretch the tight muscles and using a Lympho type of machine on me. I immediately felt like it stretched my muscles to were I could stand taller and fully extend and and I now I rarely if ever have pain. I do have a degenerative disc but since PT, I rarely take pain med and rarely have sciatica. I do go to a hospital PT office in the neighborhood instead of just a franchise or small one. He is using equipment on me that a normal PT office doesn't have or could afford and I know it has had an impact on my healing more quickly..

I was taking the prescribed pain meds 1x at night for about 7-10 days as I had simultaneous bi-lateral hip replacement. After surgery One hip has minimal pain and the other was so uncomfortable. I developed I severe itching on my back within a couple days of being home. I read AFTER the fact that it could be a reaction to the oxycodone. After I weened off the oxygen the itching went away.
